Weekend Highlights!

satIMG_5581

Saturday we spent the majority of the day working on house-related activities, but we rewarded ourselves later that night by meeting with my mother-in-law and an old friend of hers from California at the infamous Burger & Beer Joint on South Beach. I had been dying to hit up this place being both a huge fan of beer and burgers, and I must say, I was not disappointed in the least. First off, I loved that they had 3 separate lounges, allowing you to get your drink on (or bar food on) while you waited, making it a lot less painful (we had an hour wait). When we sat down at our table and scoured the menu, we discovered that you were either able to choose a burger from their menu or build your own with a variety of different add-on’s. Of course, I went with the customized burger! Wow, so good. I ordered a 1/2 pound Kobe burger with their garlic mayo, tomato and a fried egg with a side of sweet potato fries. Pure awesome. Plus, I drank a couple of Dead Guy Ale’s out of their “99 bottles of beer.” Although our outings will be far and few between due to the house, I will definitely look forward to the next time we’ll be able to go back to B&B, even if it is just to hang at the bar and have a good beer. Definitely plan a visit if you live in South Florida!

sunday

Sunday consisted of more fun house errands (and I’m actually not being sarcastic) such as outdoor light fixtures and paint samples! We were able to get a few cans of the colors we liked and we tested them out on the walls on Sunday afternoon – thankfully, we loved all our colors and are ready to get our paint on! Looks like we’ll have smooth ceilings (sans popcorn) and hot painted walls by the end of this week. I’m so excited! And this also means we’ll start moving on to the bigger stuff such as the guest bathroom, kitchen sink and new front door! Our weekends are action-packed and we barely have time to breathe, but I wouldn’t have it any other way – we are having a blast turning the house into our house.

So it begins…

house

In case you were wondering, this is what has been keeping me busy and what will be keeping me busy for the next couple months to come. That’s right, you can call us homeowners to this gorgeous little pad! I like to call it “our little beach house” because it gives me such a sweet Key West vibe and is so bright and happy. Because of that, we have decided to play up on the beach vibe with certain elements of the house. We have a lot of work to do and it all started this past weekend!

FYI

first_time_home_buyer-761915

Just wanted to pop in real quick to let you guys know that the blog might be a little slow for the next couple of weeks, but I have a very valid reason: we officially became homeowners this week! We are beyond thrilled but are going to be really busy as we remodel our new home. We hope to be move-in ready by next month, but that means a lot of hard work leading up to moving day which also means not a lot of time to blog.

I may be completely wrong and be able to update as usual, but I figured I’d just give a little heads up so that if I’m a bit absent here and there you all know it is mostly likely because I’m comparing laminate flooring samples, buying toilets or agonizing over paint chips.

And no worries, even if I am not posting consistently, I will be documenting the whole process to share with all of you along the way!

xoxo

Plasticland Favorites

One of my new favorite online shops is Plasticland. You may remember that I purchased the most awesome-sauce pink cuckoo clock there for my new pink room. Well, they don’t just have housewares. They have a variety of amazingly fun and retro items to choose from. And here are some of my most recent favorites:

P91126702

Watermelon Mini Skirt – $44

Can I get one in every color under the sun? I would literally wear this skirt every single day.

P91117901

Bardot Platform Pumps -$39

Oh heck yes. Pair this with a black dress or with a pair of skinny jeans and you will get all the right kind of stares.

P00209018

Decorated Tin Cupcake Carrier – $36

Being a big fan of baking and eating cupcakes, I often struggle with how I will transport them to parties or to my office. This is the most perfect and adorable solution ever.

Weekend Highlights

friday14297193.0

I am not a homebody. I love to be out doing cool stuff with cool people. I, however, do not like spending vast amounts of money when doing so. This is why I was super happy when I found out that there was going to be a tweet up at Miami Beach’s 8 oz. Burger Bar with an open bar, free appetizers and a Rock Band competition. How fun is that? I can vouch it was tons. The place was slammed, but the bartenders were really great about handing out the free drinks and the appetizers were being passed around like hot cakes. Plus, it helps that I was with great company. I hope they do more of these – totally loved the idea and the freebies! We finished the night at a friends’ house where we caught up with each other, drank and had a delicious dinner. Perfect start to the weekend!

Lovable Friday!

lovablefriday1I don’t know about the rest of you, but I really needed this Friday more so than I have in a long time! I am welcoming today with open arms!

1. Lela Rose Wedding Gown
1. Lela Rose Wedding Gown

Oddly enough, I received The Knot’s Florida Edition magazine last night. I haven’t been a bride for over 2 years so seeing it in my mailbox came as a shock. Also pretty telling as I’ve been struggling internally with my future career options (quarter life crisis?). While looking through the magazine, this gown by wonderful designer Lela Rose caught my eye. How adorable is it? Unfortunately for you brides to be, it has one hell of a price tag, but it’s definitely nice to look at!

1. True Blood: In Production Teaser
1. True Blood: In Production Teaser

Now that I have had some extra time on my hands to read, I’ve really been enjoying the Sookie Stackhouse series, which inspired HBO’s True Blood. I am currently on Book 4, and although it is shaping up to be my favorite so far, I really enjoyed Book 3 so I can’t wait to see the way they decide to translate it on the show. HBO knows that there are many die-hard “Truebies” out there, so they made this sweet little teaser to (attempt to) tide us over until June. Also, for those fellow fans, the biggest recent news was that the role of Alcide (sweet & sexy werewolf that becomes involved with Sookie in more ways than one) was given to Joe Manganiello, who has appeared on How I Met Your Mother and One Tree Hill in the past. At first, I wasn’t all that happy with the casting, but he has grown on me after doing several google image searches ;)

In honor of the opening of the CB2 store in South Beach today, I decided I’d share some of my favorite items from their new catalog. Unfortunately, I can’t be there to enjoy opening day, so this is the next best thing. I hope to be able to stop by sometime this weekend though – yay for goodies!

Think Pink!

Now that we are in the process of applying for a loan (not fun) and scheduling a home inspection, the prospect of finally owning a home is starting to sink in. Although it is not official yet, I’m letting myself start gathering inspiration and start thinking of how I’d like to decorate the house. I can’t help myself – it’s so fun! Not to mention something I have been dreaming about for quite some time now. In order to minimize arguments, the hubs and I have decided to split the two extra bedrooms. The hubs takes one, I take one. We can decorate that room in whatever way we wish and then collaborate for the rest of the house. We decided almost instantaneously: the hubs would claim the office and I would tackle the guest room. Sorry guys, no baby room for a couple more years! ;)

I’ve always wanted to have a bright pink kitschy room. What better to house our guests (or ridiculously drunk friends that can’t drive home) than a bright, sunshine-y room that makes you smile? Absolutely nothing! These are some great inspiration pictures that I have collected that are helping me get my thoughts together on what I’d like to do:

I also just recently bought this flippin’ amazing cuckoo clock off my new favorite online store, PlasticLand:

How great would this look in my future room?? The best part is the price – I couldn’t believe it was only $15!! Made me a little more hopeful that I will be able to find hip alternatives to more high end decor items.

I’ve always loved collecting ideas for inspiration. While I was planning my wedding, I scoured the Internet and had a whole set on Flickr with thousands of photos I had found and subscribed to countless wedding magazines. After the wedding was over, I moved my focus to home decor. I also started a similar set, but have struggled to find the right magazine. I used to love Domino and Blueprint, but both were discontinued. I tried Martha Stewart, but it just didn’t have the edge I was looking for. My hubby has brought me home countless different magazines he thought I would enjoy, but none did “it” for me. But after hearing about Lonny Magazine on one of my many decor blogs, I think I have found “the one.” The magazine just launched last month and covers the world of home decor, fashion and day to day living. Plus, it seems targeted at a younger audience and features bolder design styles. The only downside for me is that it is only available online, which I’m sure is a great feature for others, but I personally like flipping through pages and marking my favorites.
