Gavin Rossdale Concert

So this has been a pretty Gavin-centric week on Melificent, huh? I don’t hear any of you complaining so I’m going to carry on with what I thought about his show at the House of Blues Tuesday night. First off, can I express how much I loathe all Orlando venues? Every time I have gone to see a live act in any of their theme park venues, they do not allow any kind of cameras or video. I understand the video aspect, but cameras? C’mon man. It’s just silly at this point (so please excuse my crappy iPhone shots). Plus, the House of Blues decided to take themselves one more notch douchier by having us all wait in the torrential rain for the doors to open. Thanks for that, guys.

However, the show was outstanding and more than made up for being sopping wet from head to toe. Gavin’s opening act, Nico Vega, was a pleasant surprise. This year, I have managed to experience some of the worst openers ever in the shows I have attended, so I can’t say I was expecting anything better this time around, but I was definitely proven wrong. Nico Vega’s front woman, Aja Volkman, has a voice that could power the entire venue. It’s just amazing. Plus, the small trio packs one hell of a punch when it comes to stage presence. I loved every second of her skirt-whipping and frenzied performance. Check out this neat video of Medicine Man as well as their self-titled album, Nico Vega, on Myspace Records.

Happy Hump Day: Gavin Rossdale

picture-12

Today I feature my #1 fictional boyfriend, Gavin Rossdale. I found it only appropriate after seeing his killer show last night in Orlando (more about that tomorrow)! Although he is mainly known for being Mr. Gwen Stefani as of late, he will always be that gloriously sexy 90’s rockstar to me. And I may be alone here, but I think he looks even better now then he did when he was in his 20’s. So sit back & enjoy the show, ladies. I included a few more pictures than my usual hump posts – I found it very hard to control myself while collecting photos (& that’s b/c I don’t have a functional scanner – there would have been more if I did!) – what can I say? School girl crushes are hard to break ;)

Melificent Concert Season Continues

Tonight both myself and my good friend, Bonnie, will be in Orlando, FL to see Gavin Rossdale perform at the House of Blues (which I hear is a great venue)! I am so ridiculously excited, you guys cannot fully comprehend. As you all know, I’ve been a pretty big fan of his since the Bush days and although I cannot say I adore his new solo material, I support him in whatever he chooses to do. I got to see Gavin perform last year also in Orlando, before his solo record was released and I had such a great time. I love that he manages to splice new material with old Bush material in all his shows. The 14-year-old in me is forever thankful.

So today’s post is short & sweet, but make sure you follow me on Twitter (@SoMelificent) tonight as I will be tweeting as much as possible (or until my iPhone craps out on me). Have a great Tuesday and I will have a very appropriate Hump Day post come tomorrow!

Weekend Highlights: Band From TV Edition!

I knew Saturday was going to be all sorts of awesome, but I have to say the night surpassed all my expectations! First, I got to meet the amazingly awesome (& hawt) blogger, Rosy, from Accidental Sexiness (follow her blog if you don’t already!). We had been following each other on Twitter for a few weeks, sharing our love for Heroes, tall men & all things British. It was such a treat to finally meet her in person and get to share such an amazing experience along with her. I have to say that she is one great partner in crime!

After beginning our night the way we promised we wouldn’t (by drinking heavily), we headed to The Shore Club. The minute we walked into the hotel, we run into Mr. Greg Grunberg. I was buzzing pretty hard off my ridiculously huge drinks, but thought quick enough to mention Yowza instantly! Before I knew it, Grunny was all over my iPhone trying to change my preferences as well as trying to fix my busted Google Maps application. I don’t really think I processed who I was talking to – he was so down to earth and amazingly sweet that it was hard to imagine that this guy is a celebrity on a hit TV show. It is always such a treat to meet talented people that are still humble and truly care about their fans.

1. The Band from TV Gig

I am so excited that this Saturday I will be seeing Greg Grunberg, Adrian Pasdar and the rest of The Band from TV perform at the Shore Club on South Beach! I’ll be sharing the adventure with fellow Miami blogger, Rosy, and will definitely be taking as many pictures and videos as humanly possible to share with all of you on Monday! My fangirl switch has definitely been turned all the way to 10, but I also have to say that it felt good donating to charity (which I try to do as much as possible). For those of you that are interested, tickets are still available and can be purchased here! I hope to see some of you there!

Happy Hump Day: Hugh Jackman

detour2

This week’s hump comes as a request from my good friend, Bonnie, although no one really has to beg me to make a post dedicated entirely to Hugh Jackman. When my husband suggested this be a theme on my blog, he warned me against featuring my “favorites” since I post about them enough, but really – when is pretty too much? I say never!

I’ve been harboring a huge crush on Hugh Jackman since Someone Like You (terribly cheesy & embarrassing chick flick). It seemed like his career only snowballed afterwards and now he is literally everywhere! Although everyone knows him best as Wolverine, I tend to like him when he is just himself. So enjoy some of my favorite pictures of Mr. Jackman. I hope they can make your hump day brighter!

Happy Hump Day: Ryan Reynolds

ryan1

I have had a long-standing love affair with Ryan Reynolds for a while now (thus, the long-standing). I think I first fell in love when he was in Van Wilder mostly because of his abs (wink). I figured he would be a good candidate for this week’s hump since Wolverine is killing it in the box office and Mr. Reynolds plays Deadpool in the film. He’s been making his rounds on late night TV, so make sure you keep your eyes and ears peeled for his next appearance. If you haven’t already, check out Accidental Sexiness for his most recent (& hilarious) appearance on Craig Ferguson.

Happy Hump Day: Paul Rudd

shoot13_3

I went through a few other boys before settling on Paul Rudd. What made me decide? The hubs. Awkward? Maybe. He was showing me some pretty hilarious pictures of Mr. Rudd and convinced me to make him this week’s hump!

Paul has been in some of my favorite movies, starting with Clueless & Romeo and Juliet (am I showing my age?) and most recently has been part of a pretty popular comedy dream team that I think some of you may know about (wink wink). And let us not forget the true reason he’s being featured: he’s slightly adorable.

Happy hump day: Ewan McGregor

006

With the success of my Happy Hump Day post, I decided to make it a weekly tradition (after a suggestion from the hubs of all people heh) & what day would be better than the mid-week hump? None of course! So sit back and enjoy as I feature a new boy every week! Today’s hottie? Ewan McGregor! He’s starred in two of my top 10 movies of all time (Moulin Rouge & Big Fish), wears big geeky glasses and is absolutely adorable. Approved!

Continue the eye candy!

1. FuerzaBruta Miami
1. FuerzaBruta Miami

The show that took New York City by storm is finally making its way to Miami. FuerzaBruta is described as being “a non-stop collision of dynamic music, visceral emotion and kinetic aerial imagery.” The audience are active members in the performance with the majority of the action taking place inches above their heads. Intrigued, right? I know I am! I hope to be able to pick up some tickets to see this infamous show at the Adrienne Arsht Center. If you want to as well, click here!
