What I Wore: Short Shorts

I used to be really concerned about dressing “my age.” Those days are over. I’m in my early 30’s and I plan on showing off what I have until I don’t have it anymore. I threw away all rules, and I’ve found it so liberating when it comes to fashion. Sure, I may have been tugging down on these short shorts as I walked around Wynwood, but I still consider it growth. This Cuban booty just can’t be contained in a pair of corduroy shorts and I won’t apologize for it peeking out multiple times this afternoon. You’re welcome.

ps; thanks to Megs over at The Nerdy Girlie for sparking my Wynwood photoshoot love again (although we did have to battle with a bunch of middle-aged yuppie tourists).

Things of Much Excite

I figured this should be a thing, right?
I get excited about a lot being a fangirl, so this new feature naturally popped up as an option. Similar to things I need, this will be a list of things I’m looking forward to within my fandoms. Hopefully there will be some overlap with all of yours as well. ;)

1. Star Wars Tease

It’s JJ, it’s Star Wars. What else could be better? Seems like it will be at select theaters only this Friday. I will just sit back and allow the Internets to give it to me the lazy way though. What are your expectations? I’m personally a huge Abrams fan and bow down to all his work, so I have extremely high expectations and know he will deliver.

Geek Girl Brunch: Miami

Local ladies: I am so excited to announce this great news!

I’ve been a big fan of Jamila’s blog, Girl Gone Geek, for some time now. Her style is on point and we share many (if not all) of the same fandoms. She is also the co-founder of Geek Girl Brunch. Geek Girl Brunch is a monthly meetup group of geeky girls in a brunch setting (mimosas are a must) that are set to a particular theme (their magical girl brunch was one of my favorites). This group was only set in NYC, but I was so happy when I heard they were looking to expand to other cities and even countries! I was so in.

Thankfully, Jamila entrusted me and I will be one of the officers for the Miami chapter of Geek Girl Brunch!!!! I will be sharing duties with the amazing Aurora, who if you remember, was our first guest on The Fangirl Diaries (check out our podcast together here). We will be officially launching in April 2015, but will be hard at work until then getting together the most perfect inaugural brunch!

In the meantime, if you are local and interested in joining the fun, head over to Geek Girl Brunch and click “Join Geek Girl Brunch.” This will immediately put you on our list. You can also start following us on social media for the latest and greatest;

Animate Miami 2014

This year was my first attending Animate Miami, and I had a great time! I had always wanted to cosplay as a Sailor Scout for as long as I could remember, but lets face it. If you want to really look the part, you have to spend some major bucks. Luckily, the Australian clothing brand, Living Dead Clothing created the most adorable Sailor Scout skater dresses that screamed everyday cosplay. I’d featured the Sailor Jupiter dress in past must haves, and I finally took the plunge and bought it! I was able to pair it with some amazing accessories from Etsy seller, UniqueCosplayProps.

It was so fun walking around and finding other fellow Moonies that were cosplaying – I think you could say that I caught the cosplay bug big time. I’m already putting together my next cosplay for Magic City Comic Con (& it’s going to be awesome)! Although Animate seemed very small – I was happy to see some of my old favorites, such as Brian and Matt Reedy and Jessica Grundy, as well as some new ones, like Silvertales. I also really wish the A/C was turned up a little more – it was wicked cold (at times, uncomfortably so) especially in my outfit.

I missed the voice actors for Sailor Moon since I went on Sunday (boo hiss), but I expected more Sailor Moon merch! I’ve been trying to find some fun and unique pieces at all the cons I’ve gone to but haven’t been successful. The closest I got was this killer Sailor Moon art print from Matt Reedy (which is adorable), but I hope to find more – don’t let me down, Magic City!

Dia De Los Muertos Celebration

It’s a total shame that I have never celebrated one of my favorite holidays: Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead)! That’s why I’m aiming to change that this year thanks to the Ritz-Carlton Hotels in both Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. They will be hosting two amazing parties at both locations on Saturday, November 1st, from 7pm to 10pm.

I’ll be living it up at the Ft. Lauderdale location’s 7th Floor Pool Terrace, where there will be a DJ, performers, Mexican-inspired bites and specialty priced cocktails for both the living and dead. I can’t wait to see some amazing makeup and outfits and enjoy some festive fun with girlfriends. If Miami is more your vibe, you can catch an equally amazing party at the hotel’s oceanfront Mexican restaurant, Cantina Beach.

Looks like I better catch up on some Day of the Dead Youtube makeup tutorials!
Does anyone have any pointers?

What I Wore: Miami Swim Week

Miami Swim Week continued for me on Saturday (check out my post here). I knew I would be party hopping and on my feet quite a bit, so I wanted to be comfortable, while at the same time looking the part. Although I love a good heel, I traded them in for a pair of sensible flats along with my fun and bright outfit. I wanted to throw in some personality, so I went kitschy with my British culture skirt and a whole lotta’ red!

Miami Swim Week: Escape Miami 2 & WildFox

Escape Miami was this past Saturday and if you didn’t join in on the {free} fun, you really missed out! This year’s event was packed with vendors, activities, shopping, and of course, beautiful people. It was held at The National Hotel and hosted by Annie of The Fashion Poet. I had a great time with the hubs in tow, despite the unbearable heat (what’s up, Miami??).

My favorite vendors were those that had some sort of interactive component (I like to play). Some of those were Eberjey (left) and Headbuds (right). Eberjey makes gorgeous intimates and had a little station where you could make your own scented satchel for your lingerie drawer. Their sea scent was absolutely divine! Headbuds had the cutest table where you could make your own flower crowns! Um, twist my arm, why dontcha. The girls were so sweet and made the process so easy! I love my flower crown so much, I’m taking it with me to San Diego Comic Con!

What I Wore: I’m On A Boat!

Remember these pretty great shorts? Well, here’s my second way to style them! Being that my first Miami Swim Week event was atop a yacht, I figured I should dress the part! I picked a vibrant top that would complement the nautical basic. Pair it with some bright and fun accessories, like my shades and earrings, and you have the perfect summer brunch outfit. Something that really makes this outfit pop? The open back cutouts (& my awesome, yet peeling, tattoo)!

Special thanks to Netty of The Fashionable ESQ for taking these shots for me!

Miami Swim Week: Ford Beauty Suite & Inglot

This week is the always hectic, but always fun Miami Swim Week! This week’s events started for me yesterday at the Ford Beauty Suite and Inglot’s Beauty Lounge. Although I’m a very girly girl, I don’t pamper myself often, so it was super nice to be able to kick back and get a little pretty for a few hours. Granted, Miami tried to throw a wrench in that equation with our daily rainstorms, but god dammit, we were not having it! The party started onboard an amazing yacht in Miami Beach with some pretty outrageous vendors.

I loved the Intermix pop up shop, with some gorgeous pieces from such designers as Moschino, and those great striped sunglasses from Illesteve Leonard. Totally in love.

Also, check out this neck candy. So much beauty, so little time, folks.

I’m all for Voga Prosecco by the way, although not surprised after loving their Pinot Grigio for a couple of years now.

Come Join Me At Escape Miami Lounge

Image by; Alexander Tamargo of Alta Images

I am so flattered to be part of this year’s Escape Miami Lounge during Miami Swim Week. This year the event will be held at The National Hotel in Miami Beach and will be hosted by the hotel, Peroni Nastro Azzurro and Annie Vazquez of The Fashion Poet on Saturday, July 19th from 12-5pm. The fashion and beauty retreat returns with a 3PM poolside fashion show, complimentary cocktails and bites, and spa and beauty treatments, such as haircuts and beard trims for the guys and mini manicures and beach waves for the gals. Attendees can sign up for tattoo application, get sketched by a fashion illustrator (hi Gissi!) or take a DIY flower crown making class. There’s also plenty of games and even a gentlemen’s corner added this year where the guys can hang out, have a brew and play a game of poker or dominos while the ladies can shop the latest summer trends off the runway from various local and national pop-up shops.

So much fun playing model for a day!

You can also find my mug among 44 other amazing Miami fashion bloggers in a photo exhibit called “Our Summer Stories” photographed by Alexander Tamargo. I’d absolutely love not only your support, but your company! The event has always been super fun and I think this year will be even better! It is 100% free, but you have to RSVP and fast, as the event usually sells out quickly. You can RSVP at escapemiami2.eventbrite.com.
