What I Wore: Art Basel

So this past week was Art Basel in Miami, which is a huge art event that has really put us on the map as a cultural center. Despite the headache of increased traffic and an overabundance of obnoxious tourists, it’s always a fun time of year. That may be hard to read on my face on these photos, but I was recovering from a little claustrophobia spell after walking around Context Miami for an hour or so. It doesn’t happen often, but when that crazy anxiety hits, it’s not pretty. I was more than happy to breathe in a little fresh air. Does this mean I’m getting old?

Lovable Friday!

Its been awhile, Internet.
I’m not going to lie, it’s been difficult to arrange my thoughts (& my life) since arriving back from our Euro trip, but I am trying my best (tea helps). I have so much to share, but seemingly not enough time to do it. I figured coming back with Lovable Friday would be the perfect opportunity to showcase everything that has been putting a smile on my face lately!

1. I am so lazy with my watches. You may think I don’t have any because I never have one on my wrist, but I have a pretty nice collection. They are just all out of battery. I know, I know. Easy fix. But, like I said, I can be so lazy sometimes. Thankfully, I was graced with this fun and easy Timex (the Weekender, in case you were wondering). It’s so casual and versatile (& has the option of interchangeable bands – yay!). I also love its big white face – it really adds a pop! But what I love the most is the price point – you can pick up one of these babies for $50 (additional 25% off code: SAVE25). Perfect for the upcoming gift-giving season!

2. Have I caught you guys up? I’m totally in love with Doctor Who. It was bound to happen with all my Sherlock love (same writer/creator), although it did take a little 10 in my life for it to be solidified as fangirl status. So naturally, the hubs and I HAVE to have this TARDIS Christmas ornament. What better says holiday cheer than intergalactic time travel?

3. It finally happened. The heavens opened up and gifted Miami with a Trader Joe’s. I never thought this day would come, but I was finally able to experience the joyous event that is shopping at Trader Joe’s (without being on vacation). It was every bit as amazing as I thought it would be, and I managed to ring in at well under $100. Look at me and my self control. Favorite purchases? Pumpkin butter and a bag of Inner Peas.

4. At this point, I’m pretty sure you all know that I love me some J.J. Abrams. I think he is a master at storytelling and I personally cannot wait to see what he will do with Star Wars. I nearly peed myself, however, when I saw this trailer for an upcoming project entitled, Stranger. No one knew what it was and immediately the Internet started buzzing. It was finally revealed that the trailer was for a book that J.J. devised (and Doug Dorst wrote) called, S. Thanks to the hubby, I am now the proud owner of said book and cannot wait to dive into it. So far, it is classic Abrams, with all sorts of physical elements (literally, crap falls out of the book) and plenty of mystery.

5. Guys, it’s time to face the music. The holidays are here. I know for some of you, this is a happy statement, but for others (like me), it can be stressful. One female first world struggle is picking the right holiday lip color. So many shades of red, not enough time. Well, I’m here to make it easy for you. BA Star offers great and long-lasting makeup products (they are the #1 best seller for cheerleaders, dancers and competitors so you know this stuff is good) and I have fallen in love with their aptly named, Holiday Red lip pencil. It goes on so smooth, has full coverage and manages to stay in tact despite my animalistic eating rituals (seriously, its not pretty). Enjoy a 50% off promo code on me while you are at it: BBLIPS.

Mercedes-Benz Swim Week: Escape Lounge

One of the best parts of the weekend was seeing these two beauties, Rosa (fabgirlmag.com) & Netty (thefashionableesq.blogspot.com)

Although I did not have time to attend all of this past week’s fashion events that make up the Mercedes-Benz Swim Week here in Miami, I was able to swing by to some on Saturday. I have a small confession to make: these events can make me all of a sudden feel very introverted. I usually feel a little uncomfortable since I can be pretty shy in novel situations, but the Escape Lounge held in the Sagamore Hotel made me feel so welcome! Hosted by the lovely Annie Vazquez (better known as The Fashion Poet), it included a photobooth, nail bar, makeup station and complimentary braids from the amazing Blo Bar.

Seriously, how great is this???? For the final look, check out my Instagram.

I loved how inviting the lounge felt, and combined with the gorgeous interior design of the hotel, I couldn’t help but feel refreshed and relaxed. Later, we attended the ASOS Penthouse party at the Soho Beach House, where we were gifted with the most gorgeous rooftop terrace view of Miami Beach and of course, beautiful models showing off their swimwear. I think we were so entranced, we must have forgotten to take pictures (ooops!). Thankfully, this adorable Miami blogger did not.

Overall, I felt very flattered and honored that I was graced with admission into these great parties, and I can’t wait to be experience more. And for those fashionistas, check out the blog tomorrow for an outfit post!

Indie Craft Bazaar: Color Your Summer

I know I have mentioned here on the blog how much I love all things handmade, local and unique, which is why I got so excited about the Indie Craft Bazaar that took place last weekend at Revolution Live. Although I was really looking forward to it, I wasn’t sure what to expect. As usual, my expectations were not only met but surpassed! What great local talent!

Not only that, but I was able to finally meet two wonderful ladies that I have known via the Internets for years: Roxy & Jojo. We had such a great time together and although I got gluten-ed (damn you, delicious Tarpon burgers!), I think it was a successful first adventure (of many, I hope).

I’m on somewhat of a shopping freeze until next month, so it was very hard not to let my shopaholic tendencies get the best of me, but I did snatch up plenty of business cards for future shopping.

So many fun pieces to sift through – I personally squee’d when I saw the Boston Terrier pillow (they are made from actual photos of pets she has photographed) and was in awe of the beautifully hand-crafted accessories at Real Vintage Elegance (look at that tiara!!!).

What I Wore: Indie Craft Bazaar

Just recently while shopping with the lovely Fashionable ESQ, I complained that I don’t think I can rock the peplum look very well. She looked at me like I was crazy, and as usual, gave me an ego boost assuring me that I could wear whatever I wanted. I may have rolled my eyes or scoffed at her, but apparently her advice stuck because just this past weekend, I threw on the one peplum item I own and guess what? I liked the way it looked again. Friends are pretty neat.

I wore this outfit to a local craft fair, so look out for a full blown post on my experience later this week!

Lovable Friday

1. Miami’s Vixen Workout; leave it to a Miami girl to put together a 60-minute workout to booty music while rocking sky-high heels for maximum results. But seriously, this is nothing to scoff at. I have not yet attended one of these killer sessions, but I hear they are beyond fun and get your heart rate begging for mercy. Who wants to be my partner in twerk (did I really just use the term twerk)??

2. Unicorn sweater; there are few better things than allowing a unicorn to keep you toasty in chilly weather, am I right? OK, so maybe there are (like Henry Cavill for instance), but right now, it’s all about this amazing unicorn sweater. It’s a little grade school mixed with a little magic, and I clearly must have it for our upcoming European travels. Did I mention my birthday is coming up??

3. My Little Skeleton; by now, you must realize that I am a huge My Little Pony fan. I have a decal on my laptop, I went to Build-a-Bear and created my own Rainbow Dash (she is named Daenerys, naturally) and somewhere, have a collection of all my vintage ponies. So when I saw this anatomical sculpture of a pony, I had a physical reaction. Although there is no glitter, streamers or confetti, as I would imagine would make up one of these bad boys, I approve. ;)

4. Lime Crime; I don’t know what took me so long to discover this FABULOUS beauty line, but just yesterday I stumbled on the pure glory of Lime Crime and their lipsticks, nail polishes and eye makeup. Not only are they fun, wild and fantastic, but their creator, Doe Deere, looks like she stepped straight out of an anime. Does she realize she now has to be my best friend?

5. Critter flats; oh, Marc Jacobs. Why do you toy with my heart? Along with Kate Spade, I’m pretty sure they are well on their way to destroy my bank account. Look at these kitty & mouse flats! Look at them, people! Would you even wear these? They are little works of art. If someone stepped on me while wearing a pair, I think I would go postal. And wait. While searching for a link to share with you all, I discovered he did not stop at cats & mice, but also made BOSTON TERRIER flats to match his iPhone case (which naturally I own). ::waves fist in anger::

Florida Supercon

Is it terrible to admit that I didn’t expect much from our local comic book convention, Supercon? Blame it on my multiple Comic Con experiences, but I was fully prepared to walk around pulling a major McKayla. Man, was I proved wrong. Like, really wrong. I was especially blown away with the talent in the Artist Alley upstairs. I did not know Miami/Florida housed so many amazing artists that fed into the geeky culture. I mean, I didn’t even know Miami had a geeky culture, but again, I was proved wrong based on the line that snaked around the entire Radisson hotel. Color me surprised, Miami. I’m kind of proud of you.

I figured rather than just posting a bunch of pictures chronicling our experience, I would share with you all the talent I experienced by providing you with links to my favorite artists/vendors. Check ‘em out, support local artists and businesses and, most importantly, enjoy!

Clockwise (l to r): Andrew Heath (we actually bought this exact Tobias print), Brian Reedy (amazing woodcut art – snagged two pieces from him), Sugar Fueled (so adorable/creepy, I can’t get enough) & Art of Danny (gorgeous split persona’s you have probably seen on Pinterest 1223426 times).

Quidditch World Cup 6: Photo Essay

I’m taking a page from the hubby‘s book today by putting together a photo essay of my amazingly fun trip to Orlando, FL this past weekend. The bestie and I attended the 6th annual Quidditch World Cup, which for any Potter fan is a dream come true. For those wondering, “muggle quidditch” is comprised of elements from rugby, dodgeball and olympic handball. And yes, it is a full contact sport (complete with a human snitch and all).

Lovable Friday!

1. Hair Chalk; Since my hair is shorter now, I don’t really have all the options I did before for fun ombre and fashion colors. That’s why I’m all about these temporary hair chalks! They are easy to apply, come in vibrant colors and wash out without a problem. Sign me up!

2. Batman Money Clip; I have a lot of nerds and dorks in my life. And I would never have it any differently. When I saw this Batman money clip, I knew I had found the perfect gift item! Definitely keeping for future reference.

3. Glitter Mani; Although I’m no longer very adventurous when it comes to unique manicures (they always seem easy enough, don’t they???), this one has me itching to attempt a recreation. I mean, does this read princess or what? May be worth the effort! ;)

4. Flamingo Bikini; It’s almost time for bikini season…well, let’s be honest. It Miami, it’s always bikini season! My first bikini encounter will be next weekend at the Floatopia event, and oh how I wish I could debut this ADORABLE number from Victorias Secret. Not only is it electric and fun, but it represents the 305 with its quirky little flamingos to the tee! Total must have.

5. DIY Ottoman; IKEA makes it so easy to have a fresh and hip home on a budget! Its affordable furniture makes it easy to use for DIY’s, especially this one. Seems like after only a few easy steps, you can have a statement piece for your living room (or even bedroom – think of it in front of your bed!). Best part? The grand total is a whopping $8! Love.

Join Me in being Pretty Muddy!

If the image above looks like your idea of spending a day with the girls, then you are definitely going to want to check out the Pretty Muddy 5k. It was initially the brain child of two businessmen who were constantly in awe of their wives and everything they managed to juggle on a daily basis. They wanted them (& all women in general) to have a way to get together and focus on friendship, fun and fitness – without their significant others, their kids and the stress of the daily grind. And so Pretty Muddy was born!

What I like about this 5k is that it is all about fun. It doesn’t matter if you have to go around some obstacles you don’t feel comfortable with or aren’t a lifetime member of Crossfit. This is just an event to promote health, happiness and friendship among women. And what’s not to love about that?

If you want to join me in being Pretty Muddy in Miami, sign up for the race (I’ll be racing during the 12 noon wave)! It isn’t until December, so you have more than enough time to prepare, if that’s what you want to do. For me, it will be right after our trip to the UK & Amsterdam, so I’m sure I’ll need the added exercise (heh).
