Vicky Christina Barcelona

This past weekend Augi and I watched Vicky Christina Barcelona and were blown away. Besides being an amazing story with fabulous actors, the scenery was breathtaking. It basically made us want to impulsively find airfare to Spain and throw whatever clothes we found into a suitcase. Seriously, I checked and found some pretty good deals, I must say. ;)

I also loved how almost all the characters were dressed head to toe in linen. Living somewhere as hot and humid as Miami, I’ve always been a fan of light & airy linen shirts & pants but unfortunately no longer have any pieces in my wardrobe. After watching VCB, it made me want to look as effortlessly comfortable yet stylish as both its female and male characters.

Stick Shifts & Safety Belts

2951688721_fbfe3e0d15_oThis is my father-in-law’s 1977 Chevy Custom Deluxe. And we love it.

It’s become kind of a ritual for the hubs and I to take it Friday through Sunday every week. This weekend was especially awesome because we decided to drive it to Broward to spend the day with friends, which marked the farthest we had ever driven it together.

Coming from a family where cars are a big part of our lives, I find riding in vintage cars so special. The way they drive, the way they smell, the manual mechanics…all these things may be big detractors for others, but they never cease to make me smile. There was something almost hopelessly romantic about driving with my husband down the freeway with the wind blowing through our hair as we bounced up & down on the bench seat listening to our favorite tunes. It felt like we had been transported to another time. It was nice. It was easy. It was simple.

Lovable Friday!

1. Twilight Shirts
1. Twilight Shirts

All of you know by now (thanks to last week’s Lovable Friday post) that I’m a Twilight fan and although I do play the part of crazy fangirl, I don’t like the cheese that comes along with it. When I fangirl, I like to do so with class and these shirts from Spreadshop do the trick and then some! Their simple listing of names for each “family” whether it be the Cullen’s, Quileute’s or Volturi are a pretty immediate indicator as to your “team” when it comes to the Twilight series. They don’t stop at families either. More of a fan of emotionally complex love triangles? Check out their Bella&Jacob&Edward shirt. Which one am I picking up? The Cullen family, of course.

Hella Good

Truly the best news in my music universe this week has been No Doubt’s tour date announcement.

Hands down.

I am ridiculously happy. So much so that when I saw the video & read the tour dates, I literally shrieked, jumped to my feet and started hopping all over the house. Then I launched myself on the hubs. Yeah, that’s how happy this makes me. For me, after the Smashing Pumpkins comes No Doubt and it’s been about 8 years since I saw them live. Plus, I have this ridiculous girl crush on Gwen Stefani. I think she’s amazing. So amazing that I named my dog after her.  And it goes without saying that Tony, Tom & Adrian are the best. The lyrics, the music, the high-energy shows…what’s not to love? Sorry if this post is crazy & slightly incoherent but I am just.so.excited. Maybe it’s best not to blog when in the midst of a fangirl panic.

Edit: Just scored 10th row (center) tickets to the show!!!!!! SQUEE!

Happy Hump Day!

I have to admit that this post is kind of a cop out as it’s an oldie from my previous blog, but it’s just so great that I can’t leave it out of this one. Plus, I did some major alterations to the look, feel & most importantly to my men. So really, it’s not the same at all! Ladies, this one’s for you:

What better way to celebrate hump day than hot men? I’ve seen this meme popping up on several blogs and thought I would take part myself. Here are my top 10 men:

1. Gavin Rossdale
1. Gavin Rossdale

Better known to some as Mr. Gwen Stefani, I have had a pretty intense love affair with Gavin since I was 14 years old. Unfortunately, it has only gotten worse with age and is pretty pathetic. I support him in whatever he may do, even if it is coming out with some pretty “pop-gay” material. I think he is the most beautiful man on the planet (aside from my hubs, of course). And how much do I love him playing Mr. Mom in this photo? Well, maybe only a little bit more than I love the gun show on display ;)

Music spotlight: Oren Lavie

I have to give my husband credit for introducing me to Oren Lavie during his most recent mixtape creation (check it out here, it’s great). He states that I scoffed at the song at first, but I don’t remember that at all (heh). Either way, Her Morning Elegance is such a beautiful little ditty (there is no better way to describe it). It immediately made me smile and is there really anything better than a song that makes you smile?

Maybe a song that has a video that makes you smile as well:

Coraline 3-D

Unfortunately, Sunday night I missed the first hour and a half of the Oscars and completely forgot to set it on my DVR. Usually I wouldn’t really mind but my man, Hugh Jackman, was hosting. And if you know me, you know how much I really really love me some Jackman.

Plus, I really enjoy making award show blog posts so it made me pretty bummed that I did not catch the red carpet action.

However, I’m pleased to say that it was for a great cause:

coraline

Coraline 3D.

This past weekend was the last one to catch Coraline in 3D & I’m so glad we were able to take advantage. The story, the visuals, it was just outstanding. And the 3D factor just kicked it up a notch. I knew coming in that it was going to be a fabulous movie between all the positive reviews and the fact that it is based on a short story by Neil Gaiman, who is basically a genius.

This stop-motion animated film is described as a modern day fairy tale that will give Alice in Wonderland a run for its money: charming, terrifying and weird all rolled up into one. And I completely agree. I definitely recommend checking this movie out even sans the silly glasses. It is just great storytelling. The movie definitely made me want to read the book, so I see myself picking it up once I’m done with Breaking Dawn.

Also, I adored Coraline’s character so much that you may see me trying to replicate her look for Halloween this year. Question is, will Augi agree to be my other mother? Stay posted ;)

Lovable Friday

lovablefridayI was brainstorming for a Friday blog post topic, when I realized how much I love Friday’s: the end of the work week, the beginning of the weekend. The feeling of relief when you wake up in the morning and realize Saturday & Sunday are upon you and the fun is just about to begin. Because of all these great feelings associated with Friday’s, I figured my blog post had to be just as lovable, exciting and fun. And then it came to me.

Lovable Friday! Why not make a post every Friday dedicated to the things I love that particular week. From people to accessories to blog posts to movies to albums. Things that would help the weekend start right: with a smile.

Let’s begin!

WTF BBQ?

26268003-26268004-slarge

In possibly the strangest news ever, it has been reported that James Iha of the Smashing Pumpkins, Bun E. Carlos of Cheap Trick, Hanson’s Taylor Hanson and Fountains Of Wayne bassist Adam Schlesinger have decided to come together and form some sort of supergroup named…wait for it…Tinted Windows.

I don’t even think I have the proper words to express how WEIRD this situation is. How did these people meet? Apparently Iha and Schlesinger co-own a recording studio, which is where Tinted Windows recorded their debut album, but….I guess what I am trying to say is: Hanson?!?! Really?

However, despite the strange pair-ups, I have to say that I’m a bit intrigued after Entertainment Weekly reported that the band’s sound is “old-school, naive, young, bubblegum power-pop” influenced heavily by the Knack and the Buzzcocks. Hmm, color me curious!

The band will be playing the SXSW festival in Austin, TX next month so if any of you will be attending, please come back with full reports!

I wonder how Billy Corgan feels about this.

Edit: Rolling Stone has now posted their first single, Kind of a Girl, and I have to say it is pretty good. I am somewhat impressed, but then again I’m a sucker for fun power pop. To hear it, go here.

Music is my boyfriend.

iTunes

I’m going to make this very clear: I know my husband is the king of online mixtapes. I know this, but still figured I would try my hand at making mixes that I think you would all enjoy. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right?

Just think of it this way: now you can have his&hers mixtapes reminiscent of our wedding favors. Afterall, everything always needs a feminine touch, right? ;)

With my first mixtape, I decided to keep it simple & sweet. No real theme, just a collection of songs that have put a smile on my face lately. I hope they have the same effect on all of you. Let me know if they do.

A Melificent Mix Vol. 1

[Mix Fun Fact:] I just bought floor tickets to see Kings of Leon in May!
