Magical Moments Monday

First off, today is especially magical because it is my hubs’ birthday! He has proved to be my rock as well as my happy place this year – I’m pretty sure I’d be lost without him. Plus, I am especially proud of him for the extreme growth he has displayed – he inspires me every day with his creativity and drive. I love you, monkey. Always & forever.

As far as the rest of the magic, here goes:

x. getting trip goodies in the mail
x. making some great connections
x. new books to read
x. have I mentioned our vacation is only ONE WEEK AWAY???
x. new favorite Essie shade: jazz
x. perfecting my Katniss Everdeen costume
x. I’m a redhead again!
x. still drives me wild that one of my favorite bands loves me back.
x. driving with the windows down
x. sunshine: something we had not seen in about a week!
x. spending much needed time with family
x. walking around South Beach on a gorgeous day
x. the Once Upon A Time pilot – in Damon Lindelof I trust

Happy Hump Day: Chris Zylka

I can’t lie – it’s been difficult trying to find a new hottie for each week’s hump day. I feel like I’ve already featured everyone out there, but I’m happy to say that now I’m pretty sure that could never happen. There is always some ridiculously good looking dude out there for me to share with all of you. Aren’t you lucky? This week brings you Chris Zylka. He’s been on a few tween TV shows such as Hannah Montana and 10 Things I Hate About You (I’m still confused as to WHY they defamed one of my favorite movies, but whatevs), along with some indie flicks (one with the strangest synopsis ever, Kaboom) and bad animal attack oens (Shark 3D, anyone?). But it seems as if he’s going to be more of a household name than just some pretty unknown face that I happened to find on JustJared – he’s playing Flash Thompson in the Spiderman reboot featuring another hump day hottie, Andrew Garfield. I was already looking forward to these new films (still trying to erase that terrible song & dance number in Spidey 3 from memory), but now I’ll definitely be picking up tickets opening weekend. What can I say? I’m a sucker for pretty boys (& geeky comic book inspired flicks).

Happy Birthday LOST!

via Tumblr

Six years today, Oceanic flight 815 crashed on a seemingly deserted island. Happy birthday to my most favorite show, LOST. Thank you for the wild & crazy ride <3

Pottermore

Was anyone else granted access to Pottermore this past weekend?
I was, and I almost careened my way off the road when I noticed I had received my owl (yeah, yeah. I know how awful it is to read your email while driving). Needless to say, the first thing I did when I got home was check the site and…it was down. I checked again: still down.

It wasn’t until I returned home after a raucous night with my derby sisters at 3am that I finally was able to get in and enjoy some of the site. I won’t spoil, but…So.much.fun. I managed to be given my wand before 4am, when I realized I was absolutely ridiculous, the biggest nerd on the planet and needed some sleep.

1. The Hunger Games Trilogy

I may be so late to this game, but I was lent the first book in the Hunger Games trilogy by a friend last week and I am so dunzo. In fact, I’m sure by the time this posts (in a couple of days), I’ll be done with the entire series. I’m currently on the last book, Mockingjay, since I basically annihilated my way through them. I don’t think I’ve ever been so addicted to a book series since I was a kid. I just can’t get enough of it. Katniss is such a positive role model for young girls – forget Bella Swan. This is true empowerment! And now I couldn’t be more excited for the film release in March – I totally see a gaggle of girls in matching Hunger Games fandom shirts. And I love it.

What I Wore: Cousin Nite Out

We don’t get to spend too much quality time with our cousins (everyone is just so busy), so we jump at the chance when the opportunity arises! That happened this past weekend when we went to Merrick Park to celebrate my cousin’s birthday. We had a great time, had a little too much to drink, and laughed a whole lot. Basically, a wonderful evening. I wanted to look stylish, but didn’t want to go the dress route, mainly for comfort (I’ve been so lazy lately). This little outfit definitely did the job just right!

1. Champagne & Grapes

I thought the 12 grapes signifying luck for each of the months to come was just a Cuban NYE tradition (maybe that’s just the throwing buckets of water out your door bit). I had no idea that others did the same, but (as always) Martha Stewart clarifies by posting this lovely party detail and adding that it originated in Spain. Definitely makes the grapes look more refined than what my Mom makes me take in my purse to every New Years festivity I have attended since I was old enough to not celebrate at home (looks eerily similar to this). It would also help me avoid hearing, “No te olvides de las uvas!” over and over again for a good solid week.

1. Mischief Managed Tee

This fandom shirt is just…brilliant. It’s perfectly understated, yet reads loud and clear: the owner is definitely a Potter fan – with taste. Which is why I must have it. Unfortunately, the tiny online store, Revolution 9, was overwhelmed by all the orders for their unique and surprisingly trendy Harry Potter merchandise in preparation for the final movie and they are still trying to recover. But I can be patient. I think this one will be worth the wait. ;)

Squeeworthy: T-Shirts.com

I love a good tee. Especially a good fandom one. As you all know by now, I am a fan of many a band, movie and show. I just love a whole lot of things and I like to showcase that love as often as I possibly can. Cue t-shirts.com! They have an extensive collection, from band shirts to nerdy phrases to cult shows. Anything you want, they have. And I can vouch for their quality. They are soft and comfortable. So comfortable I rocked my t-shirts.com Bowie tee to my most recent outdoor derby practice. Needless to say, I got multiple compliments from teammates and coaches, and didn’t feel like it was cramping my style either (despite the 100+ heat).  If you are in the market for some fun new tees, I would definitely check them out!

As for all of you interested in how my 2nd practice went, feel free to click the link.

1. DIY Succulent Tray

I absolutely adore succulents. I think they are so elegant and can give a modern feel to any decor. That’s why when I saw this absolutely adorable DIY on Oh, Hello Friend, my heart melted. It’s so easy and perfect for summer. I also loved her idea to gift them to friends. How sweet would that be?
