1. Chambord Vodka

Chambord is one of my favorite liqueurs to use for cocktails (& also one of my favorite bottles – so fancy & French!), so I was thrilled to hear that for the first time, Chambord was extending their brand to include Chambord flavored vodka. And top it off, it’s flippin’ PINK. PINK people. Do you know how many girlie drinks are in our future? Oh please, let Tropical Storm Earl sympathize with us South Floridians because I’d love to mix some up by our pool come Labor Day weekend!

1. Last LOST cast photo

DarkUFO just posted scans from the last issue of LOST magazine and they are both adorable and heartwrenching, at least for me, as a huge fan. The last episode pretty much wrecked me inside and out, especially when it came to the church scenes. I still can’t believe my favorite show is over. Sometimes I just really miss seeing their faces, it’s kind of pathetic, huh? But true. Nothing but love for my LOSTies!

1. Prop 8 Overturned

Photo via weheartit.com

Wednesday marked a very important day in the state of California that will hopefully have a ripple effect on the rest of the country. A federal judge ruled that Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage, was unconstitutional and it was overturned. Being a fan of equal rights (um, who wouldn’t be?) and a firm supporter of gay rights, I could not be happier. In fact, I can’t believe that any sort of discrimination over whom you decide to love is still an issue in 2010 (or was ever an issue really). Congratulations, California!

Comic Con Recap: Day 4

Sunday was definitely bittersweet. I was so exhausted I could barely formulate words, but at the same time, did not want to say goodbye to the maddening nerd boot camp that was Comic Con.

We decided to take it easy and opted to skip the Glee panel (still have nothing but love for you Gleeks!!!) so we could shop on the convention floor and do some off-site activities. We started with breakfast at the delicious Broken Yolk complete with pomegranite mimosas (heaven) and then started making our way to the Dexter Kill Room. We imagined it would be Dexter’s plastic ritual, but were surprised when we had to attempt to find clues at a murder scene involving bloody mirrors, a vintage barber chair and nail torture. Fun? Yes. Creepy? Yes.

After finding some clues, we were given swag (a Dexter tote) and sent on our way. We were really excited to visit Scott Pilgrim vs. Comic Con, but totally bummed when we discovered that it was closed for good. Boo hiss. We decided to make the best out of the situation and ran into the convention center to shop until closing time. I had a great time looking around the exhibit hall, although at times it got a bit claustrophobic and unbearable. We picked up some fun souvenirs and then called it a day. I had a weird feeling in my heart when I left the convention center knowing it would be my last time enjoying the madness that is Comic-Con, as at that time I thought I would not be returning next year. However, thanks to a lot of convincing from friends, I will probably be making my way to Comic Con 2011 if all the chips fall into place. So cross your fingers for that, everyone!

Later that night, we celebrated our last night by keeping tradition and eating at Rockin’ Baja. After taking down some serious plates of food along with sweet & sugary drinks, it was time to hit the hay. We took a nice walk back to our hotel in the cool San Diego weather and bid both our friends and the city farewell. I can honestly say I don’t think I’ve had a better group trip.  Thank you for always being so great to us, Comic Con!

Until next time year…

Comic Con Wrap Up: Day 3

Saturday is usually the busiest day at Comic Con, but this year it seemed to be relatively calm. Please note: seemed. We woke up bright and early at 4am, stumbled into our clothes and jumped in the car. What could possibly have had us up and at ‘em at such an hour? No one else but the boy who lived: Harry Potter.

When we plopped down in (the already massive) line at 5:30am, we were not fully functional and definitely not looking forward to sitting stationery for the next 6 hours. But we were troopers. We napped, we gossiped, we tweeted, we photographed and before we knew it, it was 10:30am and we were being moved into Hall H.

And my sinuses rebelled.

My nose just erupted into hot itchy mess that made me want to rip it off my face and not even a Claritin could help. This lasted the rest of the day. I seriously had moments where I thought I could possibly be allergic to one of the two spectrums: nerd or hot men.  Because Saturday was full of both.

Comic Con 2010 Wrap Up: Day 2

So you may be wondering how I fared on Friday after my crazy rockstar night on Thursday. To be quite honest, I don’t know how I made it through the day. In fact, I’m pretty sure I almost hurled while waiting on a street corner for friends. But I strapped on my big girl panties and soldiered on!

First on our to-do list? Another Tron: Legacy press event. We made our way to Flynn’s Arcade after breakfast at The Broken Yolk. That’s right, Flynn’s Arcade. They had transformed what I figure was an abandoned storefront into the legendary arcade that houses the Tron game. They really went all out for this one and had us walk through a dark tunnel where we entered an insane room covered in futuristic strip lighting. To our pleasant surprise, all the actors were just casually hanging out (minus Jeff Bridges). We walked around the room, admiring all the details before Rosy decided to get Michael Sheen’s (Underworld, Frost/Nixon, Twilight) attention and I’m so glad she did. He is quite possibly the most delightful person we met on this trip. He willingly gave us these awesome giant bear hugs (I love hugs) and kisses and was just such a joy to be around. I really just wanted to pack him into my pocket and take him home. So if you are out there, Michael Sheen, let me know if that’s possible.

Comic Con 2010 Wrap Up: Day 1

Hello, everyone! I’m back from Comic-Con and have been thrusted back into reality. I have to say, I had a pretty amazing time, especially since this year was a little different: I attended as press, helping my good friend and fellow blogger, Rosy, from Accidental Sexiness (check it out!). This pass allowed us entry into certain pressrooms as well as access to the front of ballrooms to get photos during panels.

It was such a great learning experience. I hope to be able to attend more events like these in the near future so I can share them on Melificent. I was able to meet a lot of great contacts and I have a very good feeling about the future of the blog.

Let the good times roll…

Melificent is officially on vacation!!!!!!!

Taken at last year's Con
Taken at last year's Con

I’ll be at the Smashing Pumpkins show (!!!)  on Tuesday, so come say hi if you’ll be there too, and then I’ll be on my way to San Diego for Comic-Con! I am beyond excited and especially can’t wait to share my experiences with all upon my return.

Unfortunately, this means that Melificent will be experiencing radio silence until next week. However, if you follow me on Twitter, I will be trying my best to live tweet the entire experience or at least until my cell runs out of battery.  ;)

Ciao!

ps; Go watch Inception!

1. Inception
1. Inception

I’ve always been a big fan of Christopher Nolan’s work ever since I saw Memento (one of my top 10 movies of all time), so you can imagine how excited I was when I first saw the trailer for Inception a couple of months ago. I think the hubs and I were rendered speechless after it came on during a random commercial break. Talk about orgasmic visuals! Plus, I really dig the concept of creating, controlling and implanting dreams especially after all those lectures on Jung during my schooling. And Mr. Nolan could not have collected a better or more talented cast to tell his story. I have to be honest, I haven’t been this excited for a movie in a long time (all the silly Twilight-ness doesn’t count). I got my tickets – did you?

My hubs introduced me to the greatness that is A Bryan Photo. They are lifestyle and wedding photographers that shoot soley in film for photos and super-8 for video. And they are glorious. Check out their blog for great photos, such as this Star Wars themed wedding (way classier and fun than expected) as well as their Vimeo channel for amazing videos such as this one.
