1. Partial Comic-Con Schedule Released!
1. Partial Comic-Con Schedule Released!

I don’t think I need to describe what Comic-Con is anymore or the fact that I am going next month, right? Yeah, I didn’t think so. This week, some of the heavy hitters of the television world announced their presence at Comic-Con. Interested into who will be in attendance and holding panels? Check out this link for the schedule complete with date and times, but you can expect to see Big Bang Theory, Dexter, LOST, True Blood, Fringe, Eureka and the much-anticipated Flash Forward. The biggest disappointment and definitely not something to love this Friday is that Heroes will officially not be holding a panel this year. They will have “a presence” (whatever the hell that means) and with this presence apparently comes a sneak peek at Season 4. I’m super bummed because Heroes panels are known as being the best of the entire convention – I was really looking forward to participating in one. Oh well, let’s hope this presence is a damn powerful one, right Heroes fans? ;)

1. HBO's True Blood
1. HBO's True Blood

Again, late on this bandwagon, huh? Augi and I don’t have HBO, but we heard quite a lot about this series will the first season was airing last year. Everyone told us we would love it since we are both pretty big vampire fans so we made sure to kick it up to the top of our Netflix queue when Season 1 was released on DVD last week. We are hooked! The 3rd DVD just arrived last night and we are gobbling them up! I have to say I was kind of disappointed with the pilot, but the episodes have gotten progressively better and now there is no turning back! Right now I think I am in the massive minority when I say that I favor Sam over Bill?

No Doubt Concert

I don’t even know where to begin with this review!!! It was easily one of the funnest (I know, not a word) nights I’ve had in a very very long time. I walked away to my car with two very aching feet and a big goofy smile on my face. I often feel like hitting the imaginary rewind button after shows, but this one definitely took the cake. I think I may even list it as my top concert of 2009 so far!

We got to the show early so that we could hang out with friends and tailgate a bit. We met some interesting characters, toasted under the Florida sun and drank entirely too much beer. While waiting outside, we were lucky enough to hear the band soundcheck a few songs such as Guns of Navarone, Rock Steady and New! I was thrilled! Shortly after, we went in to pick up our beautiful tour club tickets (along with other miscellaneous free goodies), checked out some merchandise and ate some grub before heading to our ridiculously awesome seats!

Rock Steady

Unfortunately, as excited as I am to see No Doubt tomorrow, this closes out my concert season until October (when I’ll be seeing MUSE!) which makes my little musical heart very sad. And I want to give my sincerest apologies for the lack of cute boy today as it is Hump Day, but like I said – I’ve been playing catch up since returning from California and am still kind of settling back into the routine (regularly blogging being part of it). Hopefully I’ll be able to post a review on Thursday, but it will most likely be posted a little later than usual! And I promise I’ll be updating daily next week and have plenty of eye candy to share come next Hump Day. Deal? Deal.

So now to the show! No Doubt will be bringing their marvelousness to the Cruzan Amphitheater tonight in West Palm Beach, FL. I was lucky enough to score 10th row and center tickets so I am beyond stoked! Although I find Gwen’s solo records to be really fun, there is nothing like good old No Doubt to me. I’ve been a fan since I was 14 years old and this will be my second time seeing them live. The last time I saw them was probably about 7 years ago so this has been a long time coming! Best part? I get to share it with a No Doubt virgin: my husband! I love attending concerts with people that have never seen the band play – their reactions are always so amazing (well, when the band is amazing) & fun to watch. We’ll also be tailgating prior to the show so if you are going, join in on the pre-party ;)

ps; I better see some vintage Gwen push-ups tonight!
pps; Why are these adorable tees not available on the tour????

Gavin Rossdale Concert

So this has been a pretty Gavin-centric week on Melificent, huh? I don’t hear any of you complaining so I’m going to carry on with what I thought about his show at the House of Blues Tuesday night. First off, can I express how much I loathe all Orlando venues? Every time I have gone to see a live act in any of their theme park venues, they do not allow any kind of cameras or video. I understand the video aspect, but cameras? C’mon man. It’s just silly at this point (so please excuse my crappy iPhone shots). Plus, the House of Blues decided to take themselves one more notch douchier by having us all wait in the torrential rain for the doors to open. Thanks for that, guys.

However, the show was outstanding and more than made up for being sopping wet from head to toe. Gavin’s opening act, Nico Vega, was a pleasant surprise. This year, I have managed to experience some of the worst openers ever in the shows I have attended, so I can’t say I was expecting anything better this time around, but I was definitely proven wrong. Nico Vega’s front woman, Aja Volkman, has a voice that could power the entire venue. It’s just amazing. Plus, the small trio packs one hell of a punch when it comes to stage presence. I loved every second of her skirt-whipping and frenzied performance. Check out this neat video of Medicine Man as well as their self-titled album, Nico Vega, on Myspace Records.

Melificent Concert Season Continues

Tonight both myself and my good friend, Bonnie, will be in Orlando, FL to see Gavin Rossdale perform at the House of Blues (which I hear is a great venue)! I am so ridiculously excited, you guys cannot fully comprehend. As you all know, I’ve been a pretty big fan of his since the Bush days and although I cannot say I adore his new solo material, I support him in whatever he chooses to do. I got to see Gavin perform last year also in Orlando, before his solo record was released and I had such a great time. I love that he manages to splice new material with old Bush material in all his shows. The 14-year-old in me is forever thankful.

So today’s post is short & sweet, but make sure you follow me on Twitter (@SoMelificent) tonight as I will be tweeting as much as possible (or until my iPhone craps out on me). Have a great Tuesday and I will have a very appropriate Hump Day post come tomorrow!

Weekend Highlights: Band From TV Edition!

I knew Saturday was going to be all sorts of awesome, but I have to say the night surpassed all my expectations! First, I got to meet the amazingly awesome (& hawt) blogger, Rosy, from Accidental Sexiness (follow her blog if you don’t already!). We had been following each other on Twitter for a few weeks, sharing our love for Heroes, tall men & all things British. It was such a treat to finally meet her in person and get to share such an amazing experience along with her. I have to say that she is one great partner in crime!

After beginning our night the way we promised we wouldn’t (by drinking heavily), we headed to The Shore Club. The minute we walked into the hotel, we run into Mr. Greg Grunberg. I was buzzing pretty hard off my ridiculously huge drinks, but thought quick enough to mention Yowza instantly! Before I knew it, Grunny was all over my iPhone trying to change my preferences as well as trying to fix my busted Google Maps application. I don’t really think I processed who I was talking to – he was so down to earth and amazingly sweet that it was hard to imagine that this guy is a celebrity on a hit TV show. It is always such a treat to meet talented people that are still humble and truly care about their fans.

1. The Band from TV Gig

I am so excited that this Saturday I will be seeing Greg Grunberg, Adrian Pasdar and the rest of The Band from TV perform at the Shore Club on South Beach! I’ll be sharing the adventure with fellow Miami blogger, Rosy, and will definitely be taking as many pictures and videos as humanly possible to share with all of you on Monday! My fangirl switch has definitely been turned all the way to 10, but I also have to say that it felt good donating to charity (which I try to do as much as possible). For those of you that are interested, tickets are still available and can be purchased here! I hope to see some of you there!

Weekend Highlights: NIN/JA edition

This weekend did not let us breathe for one minute, but where that would usually kind of annoy me, this weekend was so sprinkled with awesome that I did not mind a bit! My weekend started a day early: I took Friday off to attend one of the biggest concert events of this summer: the NIN/JA tour.

NIN's set list
NIN's set list

Nine Inch Nails is one of my favorite bands. I would not label myself as a “super fan” or anything like that, but I absolutely adore everything Trent Reznor lays his hands on. He is someone I consider to be a creative genius. Not only that, but he also constantly keeps his fans in mind and has only increased his interaction with them by being ever present on Twitter and even creating an iPhone application specifically aimed at creating an environment where fans can interact with each other as well as with the band. Now who doesn’t love a band with that much love and dedication for their craft and those that admire it?

Unfortunately, I have never been able to see NIN live because something always came up or we could not afford it at the time. The most painful being when we had to get our tickets refunded due to Hurricane Wilma. That one really hurt. So I lived my life being a NIN-virgin, but I am proud to announce that I am no longer!

Kings of Leon @ BankUnited Center

Lovable Friday has been infiltrated today in order to bring you a full report from the Kings of Leon concert last night at the BankUnited Center in Miami. I hope you all don’t mind considering this is my second Friday in a row that I don’t present you with a list of lovable goodies. ;)

Like I said in yesterday’s post, I am no stranger to seeing Kings of Leon perform live but seeing a headlining tour was a whole different animal. The boys really brought it to the stage and were absolutely mind-blowing. The amount of energy and charisma that these 4 have is amazing. They played the best from their musical roster: Fans, Taper Jean Girl, Crawl, Be Somebody, etc. My personal favorite moment of the night had to be the really emotional performance of Milk, one of my favorite songs by the band, and a tune I didn’t expect them to play while on tour. Another great moment was seeing the crowd go absolutely buck wild for Sex on Fire – I guess I’m not the only fan that considers it their favorite! My only complaint was the absence of Ragoo from the set list – am I the only one that could listen to that song over and over again for weeks?
