Spooky Sounds

Via: weheartit.com

With Halloween this weekend, I’m sure there are many people putting together the final touches for their parties. And it’s not a spooky party without equally spooky tunes! I know putting together the perfect party playlist can be difficult, especially when you are limited with a theme, but luckily, I have a couple new & fun tracks to share that will work spook-tacularly (see what I did there?).

Lucy Schwartz – Graveyard (mp3 widget code)

Lucy’s new album, Life in Letters, is one of iTunes top 200 pop albums so you should get to know her sooner than later! Check out her hot video for Graveyard here and if you like what you hear, download her album.

The Chapin Sisters – Palm Tree (mp3)

The sister duo is taking America by storm, promoting their new album, Two. They are both headlining their own tour, as well as opening for the always adorable She & Him. Check them out on their official site!

Bush – Tampa, FL @ The Ritz Ybor

Any of you that follow me on this blog surely know by now that Bush has been and continues to be one of my favorite bands. At times I am mocked for loving bands from my youth, but I can’t help it. I’m loyal. Once I loved you, I will always love you. Both a character flaw and strength, if you ask me.

As a "baby" Bush fan back in '97!

I’ve been lucky enough (along with all the other members of the Bush Army) to foster an online relationship with the guys in the band over the last year, which has made my love for the band grow more. They are so down-to-Earth and very appreciative of their fans. I had a wonderful time a couple of weeks ago at Epicenter enjoying their first gig together as a unit in 8 years from atop the stage, which was a completely surreal experience, but I think this past week’s show at Tampa managed to supersede all that.

ROCK-ation Part Deux

Thanks for the reminder, Ticketmaster!

Tomorrow morning I’ll be hitting the road with a few girlfriends on my next ROCK-ation – this time, we will be Tampa-bound to see Bush headline their own show at The Ritz Ybor. Although I was present for Bush’s first show back together a couple of weeks ago (I’m getting so spoiled), I am even more excited to see them headline in an intimate setting rather than in a festival-style setting. I am super curious as to what their set list may entail (although G leaked that Alien was played in rehearsals yesterday – ::sigh::), but know they are going to put on a great show (as always).

I’ll be in Tampa for the remainder of the week so I will be leaving the blog in the hands of another guest blogger. This time around, the baton is being passed to one of my best friends, Elissa! So make sure she feels comfortable and welcome around these parts, ya’ hear?

Also, feel free to follow my travels via Twitter!
I’ll make sure to update the blog on Monday with a full review complete with photos and videos!

…Till then!

A Melificent Mixtape: Fall 2010

It had been some time since I had compiled together a mixtape and what better time than for my favorite time of the year, Fall! This collection of songs is comprised of both old and new songs that have been on heavy rotation on my iTunes recently. They either make me want to put on my dancing shoes (or rock out Risky Business style) or mean something to me lyrically.

I already have a copy in my car, which is really helping my long days on the road. I hope it can do the same for you because, in the wise words of Empire Record’s Eddie, this music is the glue of the world.

Bush is Back!

Unless you just stumbled on this blog by chance or live on the planet Mars, you know that I traveled to Los Angeles to see Bush’s first show together in 8 years at the Epicenter Festival. I won a pair of tickets on Twitter and the rest is history. What you may not know, however, is that I was able to watch the entire set from on the stage!

Left to right: Melificent, Christine & Stephanie

The story is one you hear of in fairy tales, most definitely not in real, day-to-day life and I still can’t believe how all the pieces fell perfectly into place. But they did. And it all began with one of my many silly fangirl dreams. I was at Bush’s first show with my Twitter buddy, Christine, and Gavin decided to have us watch it from the stage! There were a lot of other ridiculous dream-like details such as having to run backstage and change into “stage outfits,” but I left those out when I decided to post about the dream on Twitter and address it to Gavin himself. I went about my business as usual, when I randomly checked Twitter during a work meeting. I was almost knocked off my chair when I saw that Gavin had replied to my tweet with a simple, “duly noted.” Shortly after, he announced a contest and the grand prize was watching their set at Epicenter from…wait for itONSTAGE.

Musings

Yes, everyone, I am back!

I can’t lie and say that I am happy to be back though – I had such a great time in Southern California, I really wish my time there didn’t go so quickly. I always have a hard time when I need to come home from California trips, I can definitely see myself living there pretty happily. Unfortunately, it is not in the cards so I am satisfied to have plenty of friends (and family) allowing frequent visits to be easy and enjoyable.

The first thing that made this particular trip enjoyable was my sudden and random attainment of a pair of Muse tickets. Those of you that know me well, know that I have been aching to see them live for ages. Sure, I saw them open for U2 in Tampa last year, but it only served as a tease. Unfortunately, the band never makes its way near Florida – not that that has stopped me in the past from trying to secure tickets in other cities such as Boston or New York. However, the tickets always sold out immediately, leaving me to think that it was just not in the cards for me to see Muse headlining their own show.
So you can imagine my surprise when a friend from The Knot voiced via Twitter that she could no longer go to a Muse show in Anaheim the day I arrived in Los Angeles. In fact, she just so happened to tweet about it the same day that I found out they would be playing a show while I was there (they were actually playing several). I channeled my inner John Locke and took it to be destiny. They were meant to be mine!

Lovable Friday!

1. Fox Scarf

Finally you can wear an animal around your neck and not get any slack from PETA! This perfectly kitschy knit scarf by Donna Wilson is too cute for words! In fact, I think I would find it too cute to wear. I would probably sit it on my couch, pretend it was my pet, feed it imaginary cupcakes and reminisce about one of my favorite childhood cartoons, David the Gnome.

BUSH Twitter Giveaway!

The always fabulous Gavin Rossdale just announced on his Twitter tonight that if he reaches 20,000 followers, he will gift one of them with a pair of VIP tickets to Epicenter Fest, where they will not only witness Bush’s first show back together since 2002, but do so from up-top the stage! So what are you waiting for? You can follow G right here! For how to enter the contest, read through the official rules on Bush’s Facebook page.

Don’t know if you guys remember, but I had a dream last month where I was asked to come onstage during Bush’s first show. Premonition? I hope so! Good luck to everyone who enters and regardless, I will see you all at Epicenter in only a couple of weeks!

Lovable Friday

1. Cast of The Romantics for J. Crew

I’m sure some of you remember when I featured what I believe will be my new favorite movie, The Romantics, on Lovable Friday last month. Well, the very stylish and beautiful cast has been chosen to model J. Crew’s new fall fashion line. I think J. Crew’s modern yet classic aesthetic fits in perfectly with the young and hip actors from the film. My only complaint is…where’s Elijah? For more pictures from the shoot, click here!

Happy Hump Day: John Mayer

Ah, John Mayer. I definitely have a love/hate relationship with you. I adore your music and lyrical stylings, but your personality? Not so much. For all those JM fanatics, I know that he may just be misunderstood by the media and that things have been blown out of proportion, but there’s just something about him that is so arrogant. However, none of that takes away from his amazing musical talents and mind-blowing live performances…and his boyishly good looks. Am I right? So I guess the good outweighs the bad with Mr. Mayer and I suppose I can overlook some ill-timed comments and irritating tweets. Well, at least to put together this lovely hump day post! Enjoy, ladies!
