Summer Mixology

Picture 2

So as you all know, I’m ramping up for summer and I figured it was the perfect time to upload a more summer-friendly mixtape! All these tunes make me think of laying out by the pool, road trips with no particular destination, flip flops and sunshine or all of the above. So turn it up and get your dose of musical vitamin D!

What are your favorite summer tunes for 2010?

The Dead Weather – Sea of Cowards

SeaOfCowards_cover

Thanks to Filter Magazine, I was able to score a digital copy last week of The Dead Weather‘s sophomore album, Sea of Cowards, which is officially released in the US today. I have to say at first listen, I was missing the fun, yet raw tunes from their 2009 debut, Horehound, but that was very short-lived. I popped my copy of the album in my car as we took a road trip this past weekend and was really able to sit back and enjoy it. After all, isn’t music better at maximum volume while barreling down a barren highway?

But I digress.

Muse: Live from Seattle

106553-coachella-muse-617-persse_large

Muse may not give us tour dates (that’s right, I’m talking about Florida), but they were generous enough to record their amazing Resistance Tour in its entirety for our viewing pleasure. The band released the footage on Myspace and it will definitely turn all those non-believers into die hard fans. With their monstrous video pillars and powerhouse performances, you can’t deny that Muse is one of the best live rock acts out there.

I’ll continue crossing my fingers that they will bring their show down to the Sunshine State, but for now, I’ll settle on watching this pretty epic display of win.

Girls just wanna have fun

Melificent will be out of commission until Thursday because some of my girls and I will be enjoying the sights, eats and drinks of South Beach and the tunes of one 30 Seconds to Mars (& Mute Math!). That’s right – I am finally taking a day off for me. Not school, not the house, just.for.me. And fun.

So hang tight, I’ll be back with a full review in no time!

Black Keys

I always said that if my hubs had a band, it would sound just like The Black Keys. Their blue-sy rock is something that the music industry has been missing lately – it’s just plain old fun rock and roll. And we were lucky enough to see them play The Fillmore Sunday night with some really great friends. Their show was absolutely amazing. They just brought it full throttle. Unfortunately, the crowd around us (seemingly only around us) was really young and really annoying. Made us have a few “I’m too old for this shit” moments, but we would quickly snap out of it (we’re cool, we’re hip!). Towards the end of the show, the poor hubs got a killer migraine causing us to have to jet out early, but overall the show was really awesome and I think what made it so great was how genuine vocalist/guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer/producer Patrick Carney were in their performance. Check ‘em out if they roll into your neck of the woods!

Up next on the concert front?  Mute Math (one of my aboslute favorites) & 30 Seconds To Mars a week from today with some of my best girls! I can’t wait!

Weekend Highlights

friday14533904436_ca4a863e51

Friday night we headed to Ian and Beau’s new apartment for their official housewarming. We had entirely too much fun with their dirty word magnets and were inundated with entirely too much beer. I tried my best to be on my best behavior though as the next morning was the autism walk in Broward.

1. Kate Spade Flats
1. Kate Spade Flats

Once Kate Spade was the queen of prep, but I absolutely love the way the brand has evolved over the years. It can still be labeled as preppy, but in such a fun and whimsical way. Their pieces are so girly and fun – I don’t think there is one Kate Spade item I don’t like and these flats are no exception. The gorgeous shade of purple, the adorable little present bow, I just can’t handle it! Get your own for $95 at Zappo’s.

GIVEAWAY: The Bird & The Bee

birdbee

The Bird and The Bee is a unique little duo hailing from the city of Angels. If you haven’t heard their jazz-influenced electro pop, then check out their first two albums, The Bird and The Bee and Ray Guns Are Not Just The Future and let yourself fall in love with their groovy tunes. I was lucky enough to see these two open for Lily Allen back in 2007 and the hubs and I were hooked! You may not recognize their name, but chances are you have heard some of their tracks on such popular TV shows and movies as Grey’s Anatomy, Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Sex & the City: The Movie.

On Tuesday, the band released their third album, Interpreting the Masters Volume 1: A Tribute to Daryl Hall and John Oates. As you can see from the title, it is a tribute to another immensely popular duo, Hall & Oates. One really cool factoid about this album? Rock goddess, Shirley Manson, (of Garbage fame) performs backing vocals on the track, Maneater.

Did that get your attention?
Well good, because I’m hosting another kick ass giveaway thanks to my buddies at Filter Magazine!

Please comment to this post with your name & email along with your favorite track and you will be entered to win a copy of Interpreting the Masters Volume 1!

Good luck everyone & remember to spread the word!
