Lovable Friday!

My days are going to be a little frantic leading up to the end of the year, readers. I wanted to give you all a quick I’m sorry since you will probably see days pass by with no blog posts, and when they do appear, they may not be as fun & juicy as you expect them to be (nah, I’ll make them fun – who am I kidding??). My life has just hit full throttle and I have to refocus once again on a few major events: (1) our Europe trip, which is in less than 2 months (!!!) & (2) my first certification exam to become a BCaBa in January. All of that plus a hectic work schedule, social events & roller derby! It will definitely be a challenge, but I’m always proud to say I am up for them!

So because of the lack of time in a day, there is no formal Lovable Friday list today, but I think this video more than makes up for the missing 5 items. My dear friends, Angela & Dave, got engaged a couple of weeks ago in the most perfect & beautiful way possible. I am beyond thrilled for them, and wish them nothing but a lifetime of happiness and love. These two? These two are the real deal.

A Dang Engagement from dave jacobsen on Vimeo.

I bet you are crying right now.
Or at least a little teary.

The video is blowing up on the interwebs, and they were even featured on one of my favorite wedding blogs, RocknRollBride earlier this week! Congrats again, sexy jerkfaces! You are proving to the world that love is still very alive and kicking. <3

Derby at the Races

I hope all of you had a fantastic Labor Day weekend – I know I did!

Time absolutely flew by (as it always does during long weekends), but the highlight was definitely attending the Coconut Grove Bed Races with my fellow derby sisters to push Tinker Tank‘s bed. For those of you that don’t know, I joined the Miami’s Vice City Rollers, Miami’s first roller derby team back in July. A few weeks later, I can honestly say that I have made a lot of great friends and learned so so much about technique and the game. Despite my hectic work schedule, I am trying to make it a priority and may have even suckered the hubs to jump on board as a ref! For all those interested in joining the team, we will be holding an open house on Sunday, September 18th. For more information, make sure to check out our website or Facebook fan page.

Crafting & Champagne Party

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I hosted a fun, girls-only get-together at my place this past weekend. My friends and I really love painting our nails and the majority of us have vast collections, so we thought, why not share? I paired manicures with friendship bracelets, a trend that seems to be spreading with fashion bloggers and a project I thought seemed easy enough. I mean, we all used to do these when we were younger right? Not exactly. They were way more difficult to construct than I remember, and I’m kind of embarrassed to admit that I couldn’t even make one that looked half decent. What a mess! However, I’m not a quitter, so I’m going to try to tackle one again soon – I will conquer the friendship bracelet! We all worked together while sipping on bubbly, and indulging on sweets. All in all, it was a really great afternoon and something we plan on making a monthly ritual.

IKEA favorites

PS Cabinet – $99

Some girls get excited when they receive a Victoria’s Secret catalog. I do when I see the magnificent thickness that is an IKEA catalog. I like to refer to it as Meli porn. I make time to sit and look through it, patiently dog-earing all my favorite items and picturing where I could squeeze them into our current setup. And these were just a few of those (some weren’t available online to share with you all just yet – bummer). This PS Cabinet is just so wonderful in so many ways. Our house is a perfect combination of modern and warm. We pair classy pieces with the fun to make our house seem more like a home (I can’t stand those cold, surgically modern homes), so that’s why I was drawn to this cabinet as the perfect “table” to place behind our couch (more about the couch later). It fits our style and budget. How did I ever live without you, IKEA?

Karlstad Sofa - $499

So our couch. When we bought our first home, we were determined to buy a “big kid” couch. You know, one that had a hefty price tag that would last us a long time and be a statement piece in our home. So we chucked out our sweet little leather IKEA couch for a grown up West Elm one. I’m starting to think that was a bad decision. Our pricey sectional is such a headache. Sure, it is very easy to clean, but it’s supposed sturdy weighted cushions are constantly falling…as we are leaning on them. I can’t tell you how embarrassing it is when guests are over watching a movie or just hanging out and they almost tumble back first onto our floor. The moral of this story is that expensive is not always better. And this is why I would ditch our sectional for this itty bitty cute hot pink pretty. OK, so maybe I wouldn’t, but isn’t it tempting? Maybe one day when I live in a flat in London. You know…one day ;)

Lack Wall Shelf - $49

Our house is not small, but we are minimalists. We don’t like a lot of clutter or furniture taking up precious personal space, so this Lack Wall Shelf really appeals to our design aesthetic. I can place all my useless garbage (aka; cutesy/kitschy decor) on the shelves without feeling like I am making our home more and more claustrophobic as the days pass (can you tell I grew up in a home with “stuff” popping out of every corner?). Plus it’s unassuming and just goes perfectly with any decor style. Oh yeah, and it’s cheap, so feel free to not limit yourself to just one. Pop one of these suckers in every room, or combine them together for more cargo room!

IKEA is also offering a lot of black and white throws and pillow covers this year, which is just so so fun. I love stripes, and think they really add a pop of modern fun to any room. Unfortunately, these were the items that were not yet on the website. Guess that just means a shopping trip is in order! ;)

30 Day Photo Challenge {Day 1}

I’ve seen this fun meme going around my favorite blogs, and I decided to jump on board! Only I’m doing it a little differently. Rather than use our digital cameras, I will be partaking in the challenge using only iPhone photos using both Meitu & Instagram apps to manipulate the images. And this is day number one:

Hope I can inspire some of you to take the challenge as well – do it!

What I Wore: Birthday Girl

I’m back! I’ve really missed sharing pieces of my life with all of you this past week – something that always seems to happen when I take a break from the blog, but it’s a necessary evil at times. I celebrated a milestone birthday a little over a week ago, and I must say, it was a difficult one to swallow. I had a rough few days leading up to it, but have decided to try my best to embrace it. And naturally that started by wearing a kick ass outfit that definitely did not read old lady. I was meeting with my family for a birthday dinner at PF Changs so I wanted to look casual, but still rock my birthday girl status. Warning: I’m pretty sure I will live in these shorts for the rest of the year (a plus side to living in South Florida: never ending summer weather). They are slinky, light and oh so fabulous! Plus they can be paired with any neutral tee for a perfectly effortless look. I added my favorite pair of sky-high wedges and I was ready to party!

Happy Birthday to Me!

via; Pinterest

Except today is my birthday!
I accept all forms of love, whether in
written or visual form. ;)

I’ll be celebrating in a surprisingly low-key
fashion this weekend with those I love
the most.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Squeeworthy: T-Shirts.com

I love a good tee. Especially a good fandom one. As you all know by now, I am a fan of many a band, movie and show. I just love a whole lot of things and I like to showcase that love as often as I possibly can. Cue t-shirts.com! They have an extensive collection, from band shirts to nerdy phrases to cult shows. Anything you want, they have. And I can vouch for their quality. They are soft and comfortable. So comfortable I rocked my t-shirts.com Bowie tee to my most recent outdoor derby practice. Needless to say, I got multiple compliments from teammates and coaches, and didn’t feel like it was cramping my style either (despite the 100+ heat).  If you are in the market for some fun new tees, I would definitely check them out!

As for all of you interested in how my 2nd practice went, feel free to click the link.

Surprise Birthday Highlights

Last weekend my closest friends threw me a surprise pool party, and you can consider this the highlight reel. Although at first I was slightly annoyed, I now have to smile that my hubs barely took any pictures. That just means that we had such a great time, we weren’t even thinking of picking up a camera. I can honestly say that I really enjoyed every second of that day. To everyone involved, thank you so much for making me feel so special and loved.

An Ode to Comic Con

I’ve had such good memories at Comic Con the past two years.
I think that’s why it makes me so sad that I will not be in attendance this year.
I can’t mourn my loss for too long though. The only reason I am not
going is because we are going to Europe in November, so complaining just
feels a little silly. However, that doesn’t mean that I can’t reminiscence about all the
good times I did have. Here are some of my most favorite moments from SDCC
2009 and 2010. Looking forward to 2012!
