{30 Days of Fashion}: Day 24

January 24th, 2011:

Turtleneck; Zara
High waisted skirt; Old Navy
Footless tights; Target
Heels; Steve Madden found at DSW

What a messy day! I got some dates confused and showed up at something that was scheduled for next week. Seems like my brain has elected to take a vacation. Wish the rest of me would have been filled in. The chill is barely lingering in the air anymore here in South Florida, so this was my desperate attempt to hold on to whatever is left. I adore this skirt because it was such a great deal and works perfectly for the office, but also for play time if paired with a brightly colored tank and strand necklaces (and it has pockets!). My husband has always hated this turtleneck on me (says it is marmish), but I absolutely love the flattering kelly green and wear it any chance I get (neener!).

I’m hoping for a quick and painless work week. My hubs will be out of town on a business trip so the house (& my life) will feel a bit empty and lonely, so I’m pinning for the weekend!

ps; Hope you enjoyed the cameo from my baby BT, Gwen. She did that all on her own. I guess she is hoping to have her own blog one day – she does take after momma!

Weekend Highlights

My bestie, Elsie, and I gorging on our Cake Shakes from Sugar Rush!

Friday night I took my happy little butt right back over to the Tamiami Truckers food court. After a few fun tweets back and forth with Sugar Rush, Sweetness Bakery’s own truck, I had to make sure I swung by for these much gabbed about Cake Shakes. They sound just as evil as they taste, trust me. This particular shake was made with chunks of their red velvet cupcakes, ice cream and a mound of whip cream. It was all sorts of heaven encased in 500+ calories. Oof. If you have one serious sweet tooth, definitely grab one of these the next time you are in the neighborhood.

I was also really happy to see my buddies, Yellow Submarine, at the event. After chatting them up a bit, I was told they would be there every week from now on. So make sure you visit them and pick up a yellow burger…or a yellow dog…or an original sin. Or one of each. Whatever your little heart desires.

A Yellow Burger, in case you need further tempting.

I saw on the event’s Facebook page that they will be moving locations this week, which bums me out a bit, since I liked it being so close to home, and I hope the move is not too drastic. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to make it this time around as I have a friend’s birthday to attend, but I hope it is just as spectacular! Maybe one of you can bring me a souvenir? ;)

{30 Days of Fashion}: Day 23

January 23rd, 2011:

Tank; Wet Seal
Sweater; Zara
Jeans
; Macys
Converse
; Urban Outfitters

I have to admit, I was in my PJ’s for 80% of today. I actually had to throw on this outfit to go out in public to grab laundry detergent and dinner at a nearby favorite. So it was a quick go-to pick. I absolutely love these jeans – they fit just right and I love the exaggerated flare. I also love that I can wear them with flats, or in this case, Chucks, and they do not drag on the floor. Little things like this are priceless, trust me.

ps; I spy with my little eye: an RGBmonster!

{30 Days of Fashion}: Day 22

January 22nd, 2011:

Dress; American Apparel
Ruffle belt; Forever 21
Leopard tights; Target
Sneakers; Urban Outfitters
Jean jacket; Old Navy
Nerd specs; Urban Outfitters online

Tonight I was celebrating one of my nearest and dearest friend’s birthday. It had been some time since I had gone out “officially” – probably since my New Years Eve celebration. For a couple that does not stop socializing, this is a big deal. I was happy to get a fun party outfit together, especially since it was chilly out and that meant…TIGHTS! I was a little self conscious throughout the night because of my itty bitty dress (oh, American Apparel, you dirty slut), but otherwise, felt so comfortable. Happiest of birthdays, Ian!

{30 Days of Fashion}: Day 21

January 21st, 2011:

Top; Old Navy
High waisted skirt; American Apparel
Heels; Forever 21 clearance bucket
Necklace; Old Navy

This top is such a headache! I was immediately drawn to it when I saw it in the store because of its bright and cheery shade of yellow. I had to have it! Somehow, it passed the horrid dressing room inspection (you know what I’m talking about, ladies: the lights of doom) and made it back home with me. However, the first time I wore it, I vowed to never put it on again. I looked like I was approximately 5 months pregnant! But, I didn’t give up on it. I left it in my closet determined to tuck it into something high waisted, and the almost 2 year wait was worth it! I was able to pair it with my American Apparel skirt perfectly! Moral of the story: even if you take an item home and it isn’t exactly working, don’t give up hope! Play with different ways you can wear it (remix, as those hip fashion bloggers say), before officially sending it packin’.

{30 Days of Fashion}: Day 20

January 20th, 2011:

Sweater dress; TJ Maxx
Tights; Target
Brown pumps; ??

It is no longer Winter in Miami, but I am having a hard time letting go. Thankfully, my office is really frigid most of the time, so I can get away with wearing cold weather items even when if it is 80 degrees out. I’ve always loved tights, but my love affair has been kicked into high gear after checking out the We Love Colors blog. I had such a good time looking through everyone’s amazing tight-filled outfits. So much so, that I decided I was going to wear tights today, regardless of the weather!

I had really been pumping up the adorable $5 tights from Target (I’m wearing them in gray), but I was so upset when they ripped mid-day at work. They are brand-spanking new! Although I am upset over my loss, this only means I am just going to have to take the plunge and order some from We Love Colors! The problem? I wouldn’t know where to begin! They have so many options to choose from, although I am partial to these striped babies. Swoon!

{30 Days of Fashion}: Day 19

January 19th, 2011:

Top; Gap
Pants; Forever 21
Brown heels; DSW

Dressing the part of business lady today. I was visiting a school and didn’t want to be mistaken for one of the students (it has happened so many times), so I decided to put on my more professional duds. Makes me feel like a big girl. Although the student I was going to meet with wasn’t there (she better not have been skipping…), I still wanted to make the trip worthwhile so I swung by the hubs’ office to say hello and have lunch! It was really nice and I always love spending time with our friends (a lot of them work with him) – definitely something I needed this week.

{30 Days of Fashion}: Day 18

January 18th, 2011:

Top; Cynthia Rowley found at Marshall’s
Skinny jeans; Target
Brown heels; DSW
Earrings; gifted

I think I grow a new found appreciation for Marshall’s every time I visit. They are really getting some top quality stuff and in turn, so is my closet. I nearly jumped out of my skin when I saw this gorgeous nude tunic top from Cynthia Rowley hanging off their racks. I can’t tell you how comfortable and cool it is, especially when paired with some skinny jeans like I did yesterday! It’s the perfect casual office outfit, and it boosted my confidence when I had to get my blood work done. Thanks to this cute top (and a butterfly needle), my experience went way smoother than I thought!

Unfortunately, today was another rough day for me emotionally in the office, and I succumbed to yet another bout of retail therapy. I’m not proud of my lack of self control, but I am of my amazing purchases! I scored both a rockin’ orange dress from Max Studio and a beautiful bright blue Cynthia Rowley number for less than $50! I have a couple of events coming up, so I can’t wait to put them to good use :)

{30 Days of Fashion}: Day 17

January 17th, 2011:

Tank; Gap body
Long sleeve tee; Ross
LOST tee; TeeFury
Skinny jeans; Forever 21
Boots; GoJane

A day off. Unfortunately, not to have a whole lot of fun, but rather to do a bunch of errands. And to top it off, it was pouring rain outside. So much so, that a tornado warning was put in effect for all of South Florida. And a tornado warning is not complete without a full-on soaking, which happened when I went to do groceries. Nothing like having to run like the wind under a torrential downpour while pushing a shopping cart full of groceries. You should try it, really.

Anyways, how much do I love TeeFury and their fandom tees! If you are not familiar with the site, a new tee is available daily, but only for 24 hours. These tees are only $9, and I have to say that they are one of the best fitting shirts I have ever bought. Back in the days when LOST was on the air (moment of silence), every Tuesday the site featured a new LOST themed tee. A couple of weeks ago, the site decided to reminisce and featured this great tee that I am wearing on a Tuesday! There’s nothing wrong with living in the past, right? Of course not! ;)

{30 Days of Fashion}: Day 16

January 16th, 2011:

Top; Harajuku Lovers found at Loehmann’s
Skinny jeans; Target
Faux converse; Gap
Watch; Crow
Polish; Essie’s Mint Candy Apple
Shades; Forever 21

Gwen Stefani is my idol. I would really love to be her when I grow up, Gavin Rossdale included. Anywho, I basically love anything she creates, including her fashion lines: L.A.M.B. and Harajuku Lovers. Luckily, I can score both at my nearby Nordstrom Rack and Loehmann’s for half the price, which makes both my heart and wallet happy. Sweet. I loved everything about this top, from it’s ghetto 80’s feel to the cut. It had to be mine! I immediately thought it would look great paired with skinny jeans, and whaddayaknow – it did!

I rocked this outfit to a great late brunch at POC in Coral Gables with friends and then shortly after a food-induced coma, to the Sports Grill to catch up with another pair of good friends. It was a nice way to spend a Sunday, and even better since I knew Monday was a holiday! I hope you all have a great day, whether you off or not. Thanks, MLK!
