A Melificent 2010: Highlight Reel

Although 2010 was a very difficult year for many, I can say that I was fortunate enough to have a really amazing year. Like I’ve said in previous posts, it has felt like each year continuously gets better and better for the hubs and I. This year brought a lot of amazing experiences and momentous occasions, but I cannot lie. It also brought me a lot of inner turmoil and strife as I feel as if I am still trying to figure out what I want to be. This came as a jolt to my reality as I have always known what I’ve wanted to do since I was a teen. All of a sudden to be questioning what I have been doing, been building for myself for the past decade or so is a pretty scary thing. However, I believe 2011 will be my answer. Plus, according to novelist, George Eliot, it is never too late to become the person you might have been.

So without further ado, here was my most magical, Melificent 2010 thanks to Pummelvision:

Best of 2010

It’s hard to believe that the year is almost over. It’s almost time to say goodbye to 2010 and welcome 2011 with open arms and a fresh outlook. But before we light the sparklers, fill the champagne glasses and partake in some midnight kisses, let’s look back at the best of 2010, through the eyes of Melificent:

Favorite movie:

Inception

Everything was so absolutely right about this movie. I loved the concept, the visuals, the actors. But you can’t expect anything less coming from director, Christopher Nolan.

Holiday Hangover

I tell myself time and time again that I need to stop eating like such a fiend, but I just continue to do it.

This time I’m suffering pretty bad. Looks like I am due for one serious detox, and if I plan on really ringing the new year in right, I better steer clear of all heavy food and alcohol leading up to Friday night! Wish me luck in recovering & the blog will be back in business tomorrow!

Hope all of you had an amazing holiday weekend with those you love the most.
Despite all my culinary indulgences, I really had an amazing time with friends and family.

Favorite gift?

My Sunbeam cupcake maker!!!

Santa Please?

I was inspired by La La Lovely’s fun post detailing what she would ask Santa for if there were no limitations or restrictions (kind of like the also fun “what if we won the Lotto” game). So much so, that I decided to make my own list!

Please remember these would only come second to World Peace, finding cures for disorders and/or diseases, ending world hunger, etc. etc. What? I’m not that frivolous!

A beach house in Australia

A private acoustic concert from Billy Corgan

A complete Kate Spade collection

A closet, kind of like Carrie Bradshaw’s

Enough Vivienne Westwood shoes to fill said closet

A  convertible Nissan 370Z

A whole year just to travel the world

What did I really get?
Although I won’t be traveling the world all of 2011, I will be visiting Europe for the first time with the hubs! Our big gifts to each other were plane tickets to Barcelona, Spain! We will be touring Barcelona, London and Paris for 2 weeks and we can barely stand the wait.
Not too shabby for reality, right? ;)

What would all of you wish for if you didn’t have to worry about all those pesky inconveniences like money, responsibility, employment or children?

Holiday Cheer Pt. II

Via weheartit.com

Here’s the plan: People will comment ANONYMOUSLY (please input an anonymous name of your choosing in the comments) with things they love and cherish about you. I say anonymously because it makes the atmosphere lighter and more mysterious, kind of like a Secret Santa only with love and holiday cheer! People will wonder who these caring people are and appreciate the fact that they exist.

Then find people you care about and have something nice to say to – even if you don’t know them! – and leave them something that will make their heart feel a little warmer at night. This way, the love will go around and around and the magical spirit of the season can be cherished and appreciated by all.

Don’t forget to pass the goodwill on to others and increase the flow of positive, caring energy!

Weekend Highlights

So I’ve been aching to see Black Swan since teasers first started to pop up around the web several months back. I waited patiently throughout the limited release (Miami was not included) but I could no longer wait when it was finally open nationwide. The hubs and I decided to have a date night, stopping at The Pasta Factory first for dinner (yums) and then headed to the theater. Wowza. I thought the flick was amazing – I especially loved the way it was filmed: so raw and gritty. Natalie Portman was spectacular. She really embodied the role of what I believe was a paranoid schizophrenic hell bent on being perfect at her craft. So hell bent that she embodied her character, in some pretty interesting ways. As my husband put it, this movie is not for everyone as it can get pretty intense, but I think it was truly a work of art.

Christmas Gift Donations

For all of those that do not  know, I have a full-time job working with therapeutic foster children. These children either have a mental health diagnosis or are developmentally disabled. A lot of them have been abused, neglected or abandoned by their families and many have never received a gift, much less celebrated a holiday, in their lives.

We’d like to change the way they view the holidays by making sure their Christmas is a special one. I am asking my friends and family if they would like to participate in donating Christmas gifts to these very special children and I’d like to extend the opportunity to my readers as well.

If you are interested in donating a gift to a foster child, please comment to this post.
Thank you in advance!

Food Coma

Melificent is currently experiencing the usual post-Thanksgiving food coma (two Thanksgiving dinners can do that to you), so please forgive the lack of Lovable Friday. Doesn’t make it any less wonderful though – enjoy it with the company of your nearest and dearest!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!!!

I hope you all have a great time with family and friends, enjoying good food, drink and company. I know I have a lot to be grateful for this year and I hope you all do as well.
