When thinking of the moment I would finally experience the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, I don’t think I could have possibly conjured up a better day than what really occurred on June 18th, 2010. This will be a long and detailed review of not only my personal experiences that day, but also of the park in general as well as attractions and shops. If for some reason you feel as if this will ruin your own eventual experience of the Wizarding World, please do not continue reading.

It’s Coming!

I promise my review of my amazing time at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is coming, but I need some serious time to put together all my thoughts about the whole whirlwind of a day (along w/ pictures and videos). So, to tide you over, here is a pretty awesome video of the opening day festivities from MuggleNet. What makes it extra awesome? The fact that yours truly as well as El Sanchez can be spotted at the 8 minute mark to the left of your screen as we enter the park to experience it fully for the first time!

I’ll be back tomorrow with the full deets!

Saturday I finally took the plunge and got my new short, hip haircut! I could not be happier – I feel so light and fresh and modern. I went to the Aveda Institute in Ft. Lauderdale and got my hair cut by my amazing friend, Alana. She’s been busting her butt to learn and perfect the art of hair and I am so pleased with what she did. I was a little nervous about the chunky highlights, but she was so confident that they would look great that those worries quickly dissipated. I feel like a new me and can’t wait to start the summer as a blonde! I’ll let you know if what they say is true and I do have more fun, although with the summer I have lined up already, I doubt I would have anything but!

Sunday night we had our first official party at the house for the season 3 premiere of True Blood! I don’t need to reiterate what a big fan I am of this show, so just suffice it to say that I was excited (& a little nervous about having people over for the first time in our new house). It was such a success! We made it a potluck since we are fridge-less until the 22nd and wow, did people make some yummy treats! Plus, we got some fun party favors and props that really made the night a lot of fun.
My personal favorite was my jug of Fang Banger – an alcoholic concoction of True Blood beverage, Sprite and Vodka. Thankfully, I woke up this morning hangover free, but I did have my fair share of these throughout the night (& I was not the only one).
I also thought the season opener was great and really held our attention (was it all the nice butt shots?) – I am both bummed and pleased that they seem to not be following the books at all, but we have yet to see what they have in store for us the rest of the season. I totally need to get used to those typical True Blood weekly cliffhangers again – how killer was last night’s??

Have a great week everyone!

What Summer Calls For

haircutA short, hip haircut!

I really tried this time to let my hair grow after so many people requested. I did. And it happened. My hair is currently extremely long. And extremely thick. And it is currently extremely hot & humid down here in South Florida, so in turn, my hair is extremely hard to deal with and spends its life in a disheveled ponytail. Can someone please tell me what is the point of having long hair if it is always tucked away and such a ginormous pain in the behind? I don’t know how you Miami girls do it. This crap is not for me, so I am doing what I have wanted to do for months now and getting my hair cut!  However, apparently I am like Samson and need my hair for strength because I got so many disdainful looks by friends and family when I announced my decision, which got me thinking…Why do people believe women have to have long hair?

Does it represent our femininity? Youth?
What is it? Share your opinions with me in the comments.

And yes, my haircut inspiration is coming from the lovely Christina Ricci and her sweet short ‘do pictured above.
I can’t wait to be free!

Unfortunately, Melificent will be on hiatus until Wednesday, but I have a very good reason!
The hubs and I will finally be moving into our new home and won’t have Internet until Tuesday.
So I’m happy to report that my next post will be coming straight from the new Melificent headquarters (aka; the infamous pink room); it is a new beginning, a new chapter. I can’t wait to see what it holds in store for the both of us. Glad you are all here to share it with me.

If you miss me too much (I know it can be difficult – heh), then you can check out my brand spanking new Tumblr account, Melificent Loves. It is going to act as an accessory to this blog, where I can share things that inspire me on a more “quick and dirty” basis. I hope you enjoy it and feel free to start following me on Tumblr if you are a user as well – I love new friends!

Have a fun & safe Memorial Weekend, everyone!

Summer Mixology

Picture 2

So as you all know, I’m ramping up for summer and I figured it was the perfect time to upload a more summer-friendly mixtape! All these tunes make me think of laying out by the pool, road trips with no particular destination, flip flops and sunshine or all of the above. So turn it up and get your dose of musical vitamin D!

What are your favorite summer tunes for 2010?

Saturday we went on a mini-road trip up to Orlando to pick up some white laminate flooring for the hubs’ office. Unfortunately, our IKEA doesn’t carry laminate flooring any longer and they refused to ship it down to our Sunrise location (which I thought was silly) so we just had to take matters into our own hands and drive up there to grab it ourselves! Since we were making the trek, we decided to make it worth our while by stopping in to Orlando’s new H&M at the Florida Mall. I wasn’t very lucky with clothes (either they didn’t have my size or it was ill-fitting), but was able to stock up on cute accessories including the two pairs of shoes above! The striped wedges were only $20, while the orange ballet flats were $10! I definitely cannot wait to have one of these closer to home! ;)

Saturday afternoon, we rounded all the pups together to celebrate Brad-Pitt and Gwen’s birthdays at our local dog park. The pups had an amazing time running around, rolling in mud and meeting new furry friends! I also was informed about a Miami Boston Terrier monthly meet-up, which sounds so fun! Thanks to all the guests and their humans for making it out – the pups loved having their buddies around as well as all the awesome gifts they received.

We say this all the time, but I really want to make it more of a habit to take the pups out to the dog park. They really appreciated the open space to run and play and were so well behaved the rest of the weekend! That Cesar Milan sure does know his stuff ;)

Girls just wanna have fun

Melificent will be out of commission until Thursday because some of my girls and I will be enjoying the sights, eats and drinks of South Beach and the tunes of one 30 Seconds to Mars (& Mute Math!). That’s right – I am finally taking a day off for me. Not school, not the house, just.for.me. And fun.

So hang tight, I’ll be back with a full review in no time!
