Weekend Highlights

Saturday finally brought Augi’s 28th birthday! We worked hard to get the kickball theme right and were kind of worried when we saw the ominous clouds floating round as we were preparing to head to the park. In typical Miami fashion, not only did it rain but it was torrential. Thankfully, it decided to stop for the 4 hours or so that we had the field reserved – perfect! We were amazed at the number of people that showed up and how much fun we had. Our custom team shirts looked great and were a complete hit with all our friends. We had quite a close game, but the Black Robocops took it 4 to 2 in the 9th inning! I don’t know about everyone else, but I noticed how horribly out of shape I was afterwards and am definitely paying for all my antics in the form of some nasty soreness. Maybe we should play more often? ;)

Anyways, thanks to everyone that came out and joined in on the fun (and those that watched from the sidelines). We love you all!

Happy Friday everyone!!

photo

Tomorrow brings Augi’s 28th birthday and we are celebrating with a raging kickball game inspired by one of my favorite wedding photographers, Jessica Claire. We rented a softball field at our favorite local park and split our friends into two awesome teams whose names were chosen by the birthday boy himself: The Black Robocops vs. The Cobra Commanders! We wanted to give the teams a personalized edge, so Augi designed the team logos and we used our friend’s silk screening machine to imprint the baseball tee’s we ordered in bulk.

We are super excited and can’t wait to dress the part, have some healthy competition (ha) with our closest friends and take goofy team pictures. So expect a pretty big post on Monday recapping the celebrations and please pray for good weather. I would hate for us to be rained out!

May the best team win!

With a Little Help from My Friends

Augi and I are blessed enough to have many amazing friends that we care about deeply, so I thought it would be nice to let them speak for me on this post. I asked both friends and family to list what they thought of when Augi came to mind and here is what they had to say about the birthday boy:

Penn says…bruises on my butt cheek. Augi’s someone I’d always want on my team, in my corner, on my side. the guy I’d pick to go with me on a 4 hour car-ride, the co-pilot with the right sing-alongs, awesome sammiches, and fantastic conversation.
Yuni says…awesome rum punch mmmmmmm. Cool guy great guitarist.
Kavita says…silly photographer
Nivian says…rockband skillz
Richard says…Jazz Guitarist, Flying Camel Kung Fu, Sunshine!, Strawberry, Design Guru, Shutterbug, Busy Busy Busy!
Jennie says…Meli. Awesomeness.Photography.Creative Genius.Husband.Bowling.Beard.El Sanchez, which makes me think of “mustache” for some reason.
Mom says…beautiful, kind hearted, always well-intentioned…a gentle spirit from birth! Happy birthday babe! I love you!
Tracy says…Throwing paper balls three floors down to the bat cave, playing the guitar at work, sometimes being a bit dramatic but that is why I “heart” him so much, grabbing my boob, out of nowhere, in front of ANETers at your bday party and seeing the faces of all of them in shock and me being in shock then laughing, Light-ring Master, Great designer!, Guy with the great cameras
Elsie says…Great squishy hugs and a painful sting on my ass cheek.
Roxy says…cameras and cars, grity rock-n-roll and guitars, ghosts and raptor noises, awesome t-shirts and cool-cat hats, San Fransisco and yummy eats, nerding out and good times!
Corliss says…beard, jafar, EMO, 600 cameras and the shakira she-wolf video
Matt says…
Fun guy, photography…and a beard…
James says…Funny,Guitar, Beatles,Beard,Creative, Awesometacular
Camero says…hot dogs. Also, burgers.
Tammy says…Funny, very creative, talented. Ze Germans ;)
Adri says…creative!
Primi says…easy going, artistic, great husband…makes u happy:)
Omar says…Bearded Monster Photographer with a Guitar that’s ready to kick ass.
Fullman says…the first time I met him was at storks for photography class at art institute in september 2001. I saw him and out of all the people in the class, figured he’d be the only person in the class that would be cool. He was the only one. Naming his yellow mini jeeves, and his black mini nazgul, him changing any statement to “your face,” and always describing me as someone who smells.
Ang says…Ugly jerkface.  Oh & talented motherf*cker!
Tata says…Creative and beautiful pictures!! When I think of Tio Truck I see him with a camera nearby and his mac laptop ready to put his pics on a CD for his anal sister-in-law.. he also happens to be the sweetest Tio to Lucas.. it’s no wonder why Lucas is always “calling” Tio Truck on his Lightning McQueen cell phone! :)

Happy Hump Day: Agustin Sanchez

I can say that I’m the lucky lady that belongs to today’s hump day hottie, afterall, I couldn’t feature anyone else this week on  hump day than the birthday boy himself! I happen to think he’s the cutest boy in the world and have been lucky enough to call him mine for the past 8 years (& counting). Things don’t get any better than this, people. For all the non-believers out there, true love does exist. Believe me.

All about El Sanchez

3766237361_059bb60dc8Just like I mentioned yesterday, I will be making an Augi-centric post every day this week leading up to his 28th birthday on Saturday! So sit back and enjoy riding the Sanchez train. ;)

1. When your S.O. is sitting in front of the TV, what is on the screen?

Fringe, Stargate Universe, Eureka, CSI or Top Chef.

2. You’re out to eat; what kind of dressing does your S.O. get on salad?

We don’t order salads much, but I’m going to go off on a limb and guess balsamic vinegarette of some kind.

3. What’s one food your S.O. doesn’t like?

Any kind of seafood.

4. You go out to the bar. What does your S.O. order?

Guinness if he wants beer, whiskey & ginger ale if liquor. He’s also been trying old fashions lately because he thinks he’s fancy.

5. Where did your S.O. go to high school?

Junipero Serra High School in the Bay Area.

Weekend Highlights

On Friday night, the hubs and I played house with our little nephew, Lucas. Since Where the Wild Things was premiering and we obviously couldn’t make it, we decided to crown our nephew as our own Max and have a wild rumpus right in my sister’s home! We had a great time with him racing around the house, playing with his extensive car collection and taking photos (obviously). He didn’t even give me a hard time when it was bedtime. Such the cutie!

Fu You!

IMG_9260

Earlier this week, I could hear the Target Dollar Spot calling my name as I ran in for some quick errands. I knew I was bound to find something amazing and my hunch was right on target (no pun intended)! I have been searching for a pair of Fu Dogs for a very very long time and although they are relatively easy to find, they tend to be overpriced (at least in my opinion). I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw a whole stack of them labeled as only being $2.50! At first, in my fit of joy, I grabbed a whole fist full of the little guys before settling on only a pair. However, I was disappointed. They were this ugly bronze color and everyone knows that Fu Dogs have to painted some sort of vibrant color to really pop in a space. That’s when I decided to undertake a fun little DIY project!

I headed to Pearl’s during my lunch hour and took one of the little pups with me. I asked one of the employees to help me select the best kind of spray paint that would really adhere to the figurine. Because they are plastic, she suggested Krylon’s Fusion, which is specially made for plastic and claims to dry in 15 minutes or less. Unfortunately, their color selection wasn’t all that extensive, leaving me struggling between the bright blue or yellow. Finally, thinking of all our current decor, I swiped the blue and headed back.

I am so happy with the way they turned out! But what makes the budget shopper in me really swell with pride is that I managed to create a hip and funky look for less than $10 total. I could definitely see myself getting hooked on all these projects when we get our new home. Painting, crafting, and creating in general is such a form of stress relief for me and I have really missed it since I ended my wedding planning (these would have totally fit the theme by the way). I really have to make an effort to be as creative as I can even though life tends to sneak up on me more than I’d like it to.

Until the next project….have a great weekend, everyone! Ours looks like it is going to be jam packed with goodness!

Weekend Highlights: Rock ‘n Roll Road Trip

friday13998960651_053134a94c

Friday afternoon we started our road trip to see Muse (& U2) play Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium with some of our closest friends. I couldn’t have been more excited – it was my first live Muse experience and although I wish it would have been a headlining show, I was happy just to be in their presence for their 8-song set. They were mind-blowing. Matt Bellamy, if you are out there, I wouldn’t mind having your tiny powerhouse British babies. The set list was as follows:

Uprising
Map of the Problematique
Supermassive Black Hole
Hysteria
Undisclosed Desires
Unnatural Selection
Starlight
Time is Running Out

It was just incredible how much energy and passion they brought to the set despite being openers. They really gave it all they had and although we were one of the only people standing, screaming and dancing in our section, I had to smile when I overheard a few people commenting how “unreal” their performance was while waiting to buy merchandise. They are my beautiful little secret, but it still feels good to know that soon they will get the exposure they deserve. There are rumors that they will be headlining their first American tour sometime in 2010 and I really hope they make it down to South Florida because I plan on being front and center. I can’t tell you what a freaking tease their short set was – I was not ready for it to be over.

And for those non-believers, here is video footage of Map of the Problematique. I filmed their entire set, but this was one of the most steady mostly because I wasn’t the one recording – Elsie was sweet enough to take over for a bit so I could be a total fangirl.

Oh yeah, U2 also played. They were OK I guess ;)

Comic-Con 2010 Jitters

comiccon

So I woke up this morning to news that Comic-Con 2010, yes 2010 people, has run out of 4-day passes with preview night. What?! This is quite the problem. You see, I already got my plane tickets to San Diego but not my passes. I also leave tomorrow to Tampa and Orlando for both the Muse concert and Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival – leaving me with no extra money to spend on buying the remaining 4-day passes (these without preview night).

Good lord, what the hell happened? I remember Comic-Con not selling out until March this past year. This is ridiculous! Here’s to hoping that some will still be available next month when I’ll be able to snatch them up. If not, I guess it wasn’t meant to be!

Like I mentioned above, I’ll be leaving tomorrow for our rock ‘n roll road trip so there won’t be any blog posts for a few days – be good and I’ll be back next week with tales of our journey!

10 Things

Make a list of 10 random/weird/funny facts about you that your readers would know nothing about.

3854133756_5508be4eae_o

(1) I tend to memorize things rather than learn them. Great talent to have while in school, not so great once you are out and trying to apply those skills. This is why I am stellar at remembering song lyrics and believe School House Rocks is amazing.

(2) I suffer from situational anxiety, that is, I tend to get anxious when in a “different setting” that is out of my comfort zone. I became depressed while living in Pensacola, I threw up on my first day of work, I could barely function when I went back to grad school this past year, etc. It’s pretty debilitating and frustrating because I wish I could turn it off like a light switch. I believe change is good, but my mind and body apparently do not.

(3) Instead of having my (appropriate) boyband stage when I was in grade school with New Kids on the Block, I opted to go through it when I was 18 with *NSYNC. I will not divulge how much money, time & energy I spent on those 5 guys. Still love you, Lance!

(4) After spending the majority of my life masking the fact that I am a huge dork, I am so happy that I have become comfortable enough with myself to embrace it. It feels so nice to be able to finally be crazy, nerdy, ridiculous me!

(5) I absolutely adore meeting new people and spending time with others. I am a total people person. My husband always tells me to stop making new friends, but I can’t help it. Ever since I was a little girl, I wasn’t happy unless I was with my friends. Not much has changed.
