Weekend Highlights

sat01I was able to rest up enough to doll myself up for my cousin’s wedding on Saturday night. I wanted to make sure I didn’t look as terrible as I felt, so I got my trusty hairdresser to make me look pretty. I wanted a simple updo, but I’m pretty sure she doesn’t know how to do it if it isn’t fierce. So I got myself a pretty rockin’ do to go along with my awesome dress (it had pockets!). Thankfully, I started feeling better as the day progressed and by the time the wedding rolled around, no one could tell that I had been on my death bed for several days. Ten points for Meli! The wedding was gorgeous and my cousin made a beautiful bride. The reception was at the Epic Hotel, which totally lives up to its name. Her cocktail hour took place on the pool level, which boasted a stunning view of Downtown Miami. But my favorite part of the wedding? The photobooth sitting outside of the reception!!! I am completely obsessed with photobooths so having one I can play with for free made me feel like a little kid in a candy shop! The hubs and I were even brainstorming on how to make our own! How bad ass would it be to have one in our home?? Amazing, me thinks.

Well, I guess the stress I had been feeling the past few days really took it’s toll on me because my body has decided to welcome the month of October with complete misery! I have some pretty intense body aches, a phlegm-y cough, a headache and a fever. Doesn’t that sound like fun? Seriously though, I really hope it’s not the flu – or worse, H1N1. :(

So, naturally, I’m not feeling up to blogging but I’ll be back tomorrow with a lovable Friday list – promise!

Weekend Highlights

This past Saturday was a great one!!! A group of our friends met for dinner at Trattoria Sole, my father-in-law’s Italian restaurant in South Miami. Sole is like our home away from home, so it’s great on its own but made even better when we can share it with awesome people like we did on Saturday night. We exchanged crazy stories, laughed and ate like monsters. Then we headed across the street to Splitsville in Sunset Place to do some late night bowling. I had never been to Splitsville before and it is a blast!!! They have some great drink specials, play kick ass tunes and provides a killer atmosphere. I am now a definite fan. Plus, I got to bowl, which I hadn’t done in a long time and surprised myself by not embarrassing myself too badly. We closed the night with an uber late night run to Denny’s where I’m pretty sure our waitress wanted us dead. By the time we got home, it was about 5:30am! Sunday morning afternoon made both the hubs and I realize that we are getting old. It took us an entire day to recover! Oh to be 21 again!

Hope you all have a great week!

We Could Be Heroes…

…Just for one day night!

Sorry for the super duper late post everyone, but last night we hosted a viewing party for the season 4 premiere of Heroes! Although a few fans couldn’t make it at the last minute, we still had a good time. However, I must say that it was quite the challenge to watch a 2-hour season premiere with people that had never watched the show before, but they were troopers and dealt with my yelling and grumbling under my breath. ;)

Our awesome friend, Roxy, made these kick ass brain cupcakes in honor of our favorite character, Sylar (of course). They were absolutely scrumptious but I have to admit that as I put the brain (actually a mold using candy) portion in my mouth, I may have gagged a little. The coolest part about these cupcakes is that I tweeted about them this morning, and Ms. Wendi Lynn herself re-tweeted me with a message from a little guy you may know:

Uhhhh, awesome sauce. Have I mentioned how much I adore Twitter? Because I do. Just sayin’.

Anywho, as if these cupcakes weren’t enough, we also put together some pretty tasty Chicken & Waffles dishes, which ties in to the show as being Hiro’s favorite childhood meal. We definitely got no complaints on that front – the plates basically disappeared in a puff of smoke (super powers?). I also provided super hero masks to the girls (boys refused), which we found to be pretty debilitating in regards to drinking beer effectively and, you know…seeing. So those were short-lived.

So on to the stuff I know you really care about: the show. Do not read on if you do not want to be spoiled.

Lovable Friday

1. She Wants Revenge Concert

Wednesday night I joined a bunch of my friends at Ft. Lauderdale’s Revolution LIVE to see She Wants Revenge. I have to admit that I came into it pretty clueless when it came to any details about the band. I had just heard a couple of singles and found them fun to dance to. One of my best friends, Elsie, is a huge fan and when she invited me to come along with her – I decided what the hell! I am so glad I went! First off, it turns out a large group of our friends were going so being able to spend a night dancing with some of my favorite people is always a win in my book. Second, one of the opening bands was Kill Hannah, who are a Chicago band that have had a long friendship with Mr. Billy Corgan himself! It was my first time seeing them and they were amazing – could definitely hear the strong Pumpkins influence. However, I was too chicken to go up to them after the show and express our mutual SP love. Fail. Lastly, wow. She Wants Revenge definitely blew me away – they were so.much.fun. I danced until I couldn’t feel my toes anymore! But what happened after the show was probably the best part of the night. We were able to meet the band & two of my friends got their SWR lyrical tattoos signed by both members, Adam & Justin! They were quite possibly the coolest guys ever – I always love meeting celebrities that don’t take themselves so seriously. Unfortunately, I just discovered that Adam was passing a kidney stone that night through his Twitter account! I can’t believe he was going through so much pain but still managed to be so polite to his fans: he chatted them up, signed autographs and took pictures with all of them. Not to mention headed to LIV at the Fountainbleu in Miami to spin a set after our show! I think it’s pretty safe to say that these guys just got themselves a new fan.

Squeeworthy: I/A Collektive

I usually like posting about my friends that are extremely talented and creative so they can get the exposure they deserve in the blogosphere, or at least in my own personal space in the blogosphere (heh). But this time, I am able to gush about my own husband! Augi spends his days working as an Art Director at an interactive agency, but he is lucky enough to have many talents (so jealous). He is an amazing guitarist and artist, but I’d say his biggest passion outside of work is photography. Augi is a self-taught photographer that has just recently been honing in on his craft. He’s invited some of our closest friends and family to model for him in order to build his portfolio and he finally thought it was robust enough to put together a blog/website showing off his work, which can be found here!

Delayed Weekend Highlights!

The first half of the weekend was all about family. My husband’s family was in from out of town for his grandparents’ 50th wedding anniversary. It was lovely to reminisce about the length of their beautiful relationship through both stories and photos. I hope that Augi and I will be able to share such a milestone with our children and grandchildren one day. We spent the majority of the weekend with everyone, had a family photoshoot, attended a special mass and had a delicious family dinner at Trattoria Sole. It all made me realize how important family is and how lucky we are to have them around. Others are not as fortunate.

Goodies

Retail therapy is always a friend of mine. Last week, I was feeling a little under the weather so I found myself online shopping (always a great remedy). Alloy especially had quite a fun clearance section so I decided to go for it and indulge, after all, I couldn’t resist those prices – you’ll see why!

My mom always tells me that I “love to look like a little girl” because of my continuing obsession with bows, polka dots and all things youthful and cute. I really can’t help myself. When I see something that makes me literally gasp and say “awwww” I must purchase it. That’s just the way things go in my world. This little red babydoll dress was no exception! Can you believe it was only $14.99? I plan on rocking it this weekend for a vow renewal. No wonder people still think I’m in high school. ;)

Weekend Highlights: Labor Day Edition

sat3893900618_d6fd593b6f

Unfortunately, I couldn’t enjoy my long weekend to the fullest because I came down with a pretty nasty cold mid-week. Thankfully, resting all Friday by calling in sick from work helped me feel well enough to hit the road Saturday night to attend the grand opening party for Pink Ghost, a great vinyl toy and art store (among other things). The store used to be located across the street from my hubby’s office in Las Olas, but recently made the move to Hollywood Circle, which from what I hear (I’m not that familiar with the area) was a good choice. We were so happy for the owners (we’ve developed a close relationship with them) and were blown away with the turn out! I picked up an adorable autographed “chubby book” illustrated by Helena Garcia, who was gracious enough to attend the party and sign her work. For those of you who dig this kind of merchandise and are local, definitely make your way over to Pink Ghost – the items are fun, the people are friendly and the location is ace! All win, all the time. Their new location is:

1888 Polk Street
Hollywood, FL 33020
