Comic-Con Recap: Sunday

3767033768_8852f43040

Sunday left us with the whole day to shop! So we were able to explore the exhibit floor and find fun new artists to support. My favorite had to be Tara Mcpherson. I know she’s not a “new” artist, but she was new to me. Her work was absolutely beautiful. I was also lucky enough to meet Gris Grimly, another extremely talented artist that dedicated a book to my nephew. If you are a parent, definitely check out his whimsical & dark children’s books.

As we walked out of the convention center for the last time, I couldn’t help but feel this overwhelming sadness. My good time was over. It was beyond crazy and exhaustingly maddening, but it was the time of my life! It was at that moment that I decided I needed to come back next year.

So it’s already in the works! Can’t wait to continue the tradition next year and hopefully share it with all of you again (only better)!

Comic-Con Recap: Saturday

Oh Saturday. You were batshit insane and then some. But I loved every single second of you. If I could relive any day out of the 4, it would be you. Let’s start from the beginning, shall we?

I woke up at the butt crack of dawn (5am, to be exact) in order to secure a good spot at the LOST panel. When we arrived at 6am, the lawn was already slammed. We sat around, made new friends and played some trivia with the ODI. I also took a nice cat nap on the grass. Before we knew it, we were starting to move into Hall H for the last ever LOST panel. There were no words for the excitement I felt, but maybe this video could give you an idea:

Comic-Con Recap: Friday

Friday was our first day where we all had panels we wanted to attend. However, we were 6 people with 6 different fandoms so we decided to split up in order to maximize everyone’s day. I chose the Coraline, Flash Forward, 9 and District-9 panels. Boy, was it a long day! We started off believing we wouldn’t get into the Coraline panel at all because of the massive line, but were able to score 3rd row seats to the right of the stage. So stoked! While waiting for the panel to begin, we notice that Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood’s rebellious teenage vampire, Jessica) was sitting directly behind us! We asked her for a picture and she was the absolute sweetest girl ever. She was very meek and quiet – she spoke so low you could barely hear what she said. Total doll. And that hair? Beautiful!

The Coraline panel was mind-blowing. They showed behind the scenes clips from the DVD of all the meticulous work that went into creating the stop-motion flick. I could not believe how tedious it is and even more so  – how passionate all these animators are about their work. They love every second of it. It’s such a beautiful thing to watch! Everyone pick up a copy of this DVD – such a timeless and amazing movie.

I’m the Birthday Girl!

Today is my birthday so feel free to shower me in all sorts of love & presents. Also taking Quinto picspams. Whatever works for you. ;)

Look out for my Friday Comic-Con update in a few!

Comic-Con Recap: Thursday

Hello everyone!
I’m back in the good ‘ol MIA, but so so sad to say that my Comic-Con adventure is over. The 4 days flew by in a whirlwind of madness. I have never slept or eaten so little in my life. And I have never been happier. It was truly the best birthday I have ever had.

I was considering just making one epic Comic-Con recap post, but it would be too content heavy. So I decided to spread out the posts by day. Today? Thursday.

In Flight

Guess who?

Taken by my hubs on the plane
Taken by my hubs on the plane

Unfortunately, our connecting flight to San Diego from Atlanta this morning was delayed due to not one, but three last minute gate changes. Because of this, we will probably be arriving in San Diego a little later than expected, but as a token of their apology, AirTran gave us free in-flight wifi!! This is truly the best thing ever (especially during a 4 hour flight!).

So I am coming to you straight from the sky – how crazy is that? I don’t have to tell you guys how excited I am to be traveling with all of my closest friends (miss you Elsie!), but I have to say I am also frightened of what awaits us. I have already been getting a massive amount of tweets showing the pandemonium that is currently taking place outside of the convention center due to Twilight and Holy Jeebus! Despite not attending the New Moon panel, I should have still made the executive decision to pack full-body armor. Craziness.

Really funny? There are a bunch of fellow CC’ers on the plane with us. We have some dudes behind us that have not stopped stressing out to each other about panels. I just want to whip around and slap them because they are, in turn, stressing me out. Don’t rain on my parade, fuckers!

Anyways, I suppose I will stop rambling now. Being on planes makes me anxious and claustrophobic so any form of distraction is highly welcomed (i.e. a long, incohesive, rambly blog post). It seems like I will only have wifi in the hotel lobby so it’s not looking good for me in terms of blogging daily while in San Diego, but again, follow my Twitter! I’ll be updating (aka: spamming) as much as I possibly can.

Namaste!

Comic-Con Bound!

The day has finally arrived! Tomorrow morning I’ll be en route to San Diego to attend Comic-Con 2009! I couldn’t be more excited and I really will try my best to blog if possible (don’t know if I have wifi at the hotel or if I’ll have the time!). One thing you can count on is my Twitter. I’ll be live tweeting as much of the event as possible so you’ll want to be keeping an eye on it throughout the rest of the week.

Edit: As of this morning, I have been asked to help contribute to DarkUFO‘s live coverage of Comic-Con! I will be live tweeting from their twitter account throughout the 4 days, so you can check ComicConLive for my reports as well. I will still be posting from my personal account though so make sure you have both added! Thanks for the opportunity, Mr. ODI!

For all those friends I have made out there in Twitter/Blog-land, I’d love to meet up with you! If we seem to be in similar locations or going to the same panels, please reply to me or send me a message on Twitter! Don’t be shy! ;)

For those interested, I plan on attending the following panels:

thurscon

lastyearcomicon

Summit Entertainment’s New Moon Panel
2:15-3:15pm

This one depends on what time we are able to get to the Convention Center as our plane lands at 11am and I’m sure it’ll take us awhile to pick up our rental car, check in to the hotel and make our way over to the center. I’ve heard crazy Twi-hards have been sleeping on the premises since yesterday – so I’m not sure if I’ll make it in and also not so sure if I will want to endure the torture that is screaming, hysterical tweens.

dexterseason3

Showtime: Dexter Panel
5pm-6pm

I will most definitely be here! Love Dexter and can’t wait to see what they have in store for us! Hoping for a Season 4 sneak peek!

drhorrible

Dr. Horrible’s Sing-along Blog
8pm-10pm

It took me entirely too long to watch this, despite countless friends’ recommendations, but I am so glad I finally did! I’m a huge fan of the NPH and this only made my love swell! If you like musicals and Joss Whedon, please check it out! You can find it on Hulu. I thought NPH would be there himself, but seems like it was just wishful thinking. Although (from experience), you never know who may show up where at Comic-Con!

Hunting Season

dec430x300

So I think it’s pretty safe to put it out to the blogosphere now: the hubs & I are actively house hunting! We are excited, being first time home buyers, but I have to admit it’s been frustrating as well. Just recently, we fell in love with what seemed like “the perfect house” – you know those. The ones you can already imagine yourself in, your kids running around, sharing special life moments, etc. That was the one. And unfortunately it had a contract already pending. Just seems like that is always the case with the places we love – someone has gotten to them first!

But we now have our eyes on a definite fixer-upper. I’m having “my people” swing by with me next week to check out how serious the renovations would be and if it would be worth it. Although some people would shudder at the thought, I think both the hubs and I would do great building up a home from scratch. It just has so much potential. I really hope it works out. But, I guess if it doesn’t – there will always be another home begging to be the next Casa Sanchez.

Look forward to more fun house posts as we get deeper & deeper into the hunt & hopefully closer to closing on our very first home!

Weekend Highlights!

friday1

3729962968_85b1822303_o

I finally decided to take action and get some fringe bangs – I know I had asked all of you for your opinion earlier on this post, but my ultimate inspiration came from one of my newest blogger obsessions: Naomi, from Rockstar Diaries. Is it silly to wish to be her when I grow up? Anyways, all girl crushes aside, I made the executive decision to try out the Aveda Institute in Ft. Lauderdale since I had heard so many raves about it & was impressed with the pricing. Granted, students are the ones working on your hair, but I have to say I was impressed. My student looked like she wanted to possibly end her life, but she did well. I am super happy with my new fringe and freshly layered hair. So I totally recommend them and will probably be dropping by often as their other services are ridiculously inexpensive: manicure for $10, highlights for $48? Yes please! Too bad it’s a little ways away from me, but definitely worth the hike!

This weekend went by entirely too fast, but I have to say that I didn’t mind this time around. Why? I only have a 3-day work week because I will be leaving to San Diego on (very) early Thursday morning to attend Comic-Con!!!! I can’t believe the week has finally arrived! I remember buying our tickets back in November and thinking it was a million light years away – now, it’s right around the corner! This definitely deserves a Melificent-worthy SQUEEEEEE!

Have a great week, everyone!

New Toys!

img_8567

My birthday came early today when I received not one, but two Fed/Ex packages at work! One was my new lens for my Canon 40D and the other was my new pink Speck case for the Macbook! So exciting. How perfect is that? Now my Macbook is Melificent approved and I can honestly say that I am ready for San Diego. Just one more week, people!
