Lovable Friday

First off, I’d just like to say that I am so happy with the turnout for both giveaways I’ve hosted the past two weeks. I am especially blown away at the response for yesterday’s Lulu’s contest! I hope to be able to continue to provide more unique and fun giveaways for all of you in the future. I am very proud of where this blog is heading and am not planning on slowing down one bit! So thank you to all my loyal readers, as well as new ones. It makes me infinitely happy to know that I can make others smile with something I have created. :)

1. LOST finale

I cannot believe it’s time. I truly think this is the end of an era. LOST changed television. They made it OK for television shows to make its viewers think. TV no longer has to be mindless entertainment. LOST was a very big part of my life from beginning to end and I am terribly sad to see it go. I have grown attached to all the characters as if I personally knew each and every one of them. But at the same time, I am so excited to see the conclusion. How is this all going to end? I have utter and complete faith that Damon and Carlton are going to serve us up a mind-blowing 2.5 hour finale on Sunday night, but that doesn’t mean I’m not going to cry. A lot. So keep those tissues handy, fellow LOSTies!
ps; Isn’t Libby one of the greatest underrated characters? I love her.

In honor of the quickly approaching series finale of quite possibly the best show on TV ever, LOST, I decided to make today’s Lovable Friday LOST-centric. Plus, we need something to hold us over that horrific 2-week hiatus, right fellow fans? First, check out these amazing LOST-themed tarot cards! They were designed by Flickr user gravitybomb who did an amazing job capturing the personalities (often dual personalities) of our main LOSTies. Plus, you can download them all at full size, which comes in handy if you are planning an epic LOST party for the finale (like we are!).

Every time I think Louboutin has made his most outrageous pair of shoes yet, he comes out with another absolutely amazing pair that I lust over for months. And you’re looking right at them above! Unfortunately, these sparkly pretties go for $1,195. Mortgage anyone?

I’d like to start off Lovable Friday today with the winner of The Bird & The Bee contest I held last week! The lucky winner of a copy of their new album, Interpreting the Masters, Volume 1 is Karen Lisa! Congratulations! Remember to send me your mailing address as soon as you can so the CD can be sent your way!

I couldn’t love this more. For those not in the know, VILF stands for Vampire I‘d Like to F___ – I’ll let you fill in the nasty little letters yourselves! As if June 13th didn’t feel long enough, yet another teaser was released earlier this week featuring everyone’s favorite bar-owning shape shifter, Sam Merlotte. I hate how they are purposely featuring scenes that cannot be placed if you read the novels. Does anyone have any theories? Also, I totally need this as a shirt for this year’s Comic Con!

Nothing is irreversible

Wow what a night!
As promised, here is my “better late than never” post about last night’s LOST party and 2-hour season opener. The first half will focus on the party and then I’ll make sure to put any spoilers or information about the show under a cut so that those who have yet to see the show won’t want my head on a platter. ;)

The party was a complete success! Almost all of our LOSTie buddies were able to make it and I think it’s safe to say that we all had a great time being little fan girls and boys together. In case you were wondering, that’s my super-duper-I’m-so-excited face in the photo above. We were about to hit play on the DVR.

lost1: Both the hubs and I made Sawyer-iffic fish biscuits thanks to this great recipe. It was really difficult and quite the mission, but I think they turned out pretty decent. And they ended up tasting like animal crackers – nom nom!
2: I made my infamous pumpkin cupcakes (recipe here) with cream cheese frosting. In order to make them Dharma worthy, I added some fun custom flags (template here) with the Dharma logo on one side and the numbers on the other. They were a huge hit!
3: The complete table setup. Plenty of Dharma rations and a little recruit area complete with party favors (Dharma mints) and job titles on labels. Our guests were able to choose what job they would like in the Dharma Initiative. I really enjoyed watching people as they picked their occupations. It was really fun ;)
4: Mini chocolates also were dressed in Dharma gear. The remainder are now at my office – they are dangerous to have laying around the house.

The beginning of the end.

Lost-Last-Supper-1

For all us LOST fans, today is a very important and special day. Tonight marks the season premiere of the last season of LOST ever. Ever, people. This is it. What all of us have been waiting for all these years, but at the same are so sad to face. A show I was lucky enough to be exposed to since before the beginning – I first caught wind of LOST at Comic Con 2004 when the creators and actors presented the pilot episode to a very crowded Room 20. Also, in a moment I will never forget, I was able to attend the last ever LOST panel at Comic Con 2009. It’s been a huge part of my life for the past 6 years: while away at grad school, the hubs and I would watch LOST together over the phone, when I moved back home, we began hosting LOST parties for every premiere and finale, I created some friendships due to the show and converted countless others into LOSTies thanks to our extensive DVD collection.

So today is bittersweet for me. I sincerely think it is/has been the greatest TV show of our time and think others are going to have a very difficult time living up to its legacy. We will be hosting our largest LOST party to date tonight and I have put countless hours into preparing Dharma-riffic decorations, food and beverage. Definitely more so than other years. I can’t wait to share tonight with some of our closest LOST fanatics and hope the other LOST fans that read this blog can do the same! Have a great time and I hope to be able to share some of my thoughts on the party and show tomorrow (so it may be a little delayed).

I’ll leave you with some pictures from the Sunset on the Beach event in Honolulu this past weekend courtesy of DarkUFO.

Namaste!

I’m usually not into loving fad-ish cameras, but this one really got suckered me good. Although Polaroid is back with a vengeance, I can’t help but love the Fuji Instax. It’s adorably cute and helps you capture the moment instantly in fun bite-sized photos that you can put anywhere. My favorite uses of these pictures? These adorable wall collages. Hello, lover! ;)

1. True Blood: In Production Teaser
1. True Blood: In Production Teaser

Now that I have had some extra time on my hands to read, I’ve really been enjoying the Sookie Stackhouse series, which inspired HBO’s True Blood. I am currently on Book 4, and although it is shaping up to be my favorite so far, I really enjoyed Book 3 so I can’t wait to see the way they decide to translate it on the show. HBO knows that there are many die-hard “Truebies” out there, so they made this sweet little teaser to (attempt to) tide us over until June. Also, for those fellow fans, the biggest recent news was that the role of Alcide (sweet & sexy werewolf that becomes involved with Sookie in more ways than one) was given to Joe Manganiello, who has appeared on How I Met Your Mother and One Tree Hill in the past. At first, I wasn’t all that happy with the casting, but he has grown on me after doing several google image searches ;)

Year in Review: 2009

Favorite movie:

District 9
I knew I was going to love this movie when I attended the panel at Comic-Con, but I don’t think I was ready for how it would affect me. This movie was mind-blowing, not only with special effects, but also with its storyline and message.

Star Trek
Although not a trekker in the least bit, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Be it due to Zachary Quinto, J.J. Abrams or Zachary Quinto, I really don’t know. All I know is that it was absolutely entertaining and I didn’t mind watching it three times in a theater.

1. New Moon Premiere!
1. New Moon Premiere!

Although I figure a lot of the die-hards hit up the theaters last night at midnight, for the rest of us less brave souls, it’s a New Moon kinda weekend! As I’ve mentioned several times already (can’t help it, I’m excited!), I’ll be going with a group of girlfriends to check out the movie at Cinebistro Saturday afternoon. Cinebistro is for adults only (21+) and provides food and drinks as you watch the movie. I’ve never been because I had been saving it for a special movie (I’ve heard it can be pricey) and I this fits the bill! I don’t have the patience nor the energy to deal with hormonal teenage girls screaming every time Robert Pattinson’s mug comes onscreen so this was my best bet. Not to say that 20-something year olds can’t be just as fanatical, but I’d like to think we know how to class it up a little better. Afterwards, I am hosting a Twilight-themed party at my pad complete with board games, specialty drinks and fangtastic treats. I hope the rest of my little twi-hards enjoy the movie – I’ll make sure to give my two cents on Monday!
