Grammy’s Recap

This was originally going to be a fashion recap, but I found all the gowns to be so sub-par, that I decided to just focus on the moments. And there were a lot. Wouldn’t you agree?

I feel like this was the best Grammy’s in a very long time. Seems like talented people were honored the way they should be, not a popularity contest, not based on looks or what is “cool” at the moment. I’m hoping music continues in this vein, because it’s a good one. So without further ado…

Rihanna‘s body is sick. I don’t think anyone can dispute this.
Jagger still has the swagger.
Mumford & Sons, Avett Brothers & Bob Dylan made my night. Best performance by far.
Skylar Grey, where have you been my whole life? What a voice!
Dre & Em: reunited. & it feels so good.
– I’m not a Paltrow fan, but that performance w/ Cee Lo attempted to change my mind.
– Muse won. Muse won. MUSE WON.
– Please don’t wear silver pants/leggings again, Ricky Martin. EH-VER.
Florence: you are magical.
– I love you, Gaga. But this whole embryo/egg situation is just dumb as shit.
Arcade Fire as album of the year. Did I die & go to music heaven? Clearly.

Golden Globes Fashion Recap

I am embarrassed to say that I forgot that the Golden Globes were yesterday! I woke up from a very much needed nap at 6pm, and freaked out when I saw my Twitter stream! The red carpet was in full effect and I was clueless – thankfully, my hubs got on it and hit the record button on our DVR. Crisis averted.

I have to admit that I wasn’t impressed with this year’s dresses. They just generally fell flat for me. But there were a choice few that really peaked my interest. In regards to the awards, I am so proud of David Fincher, Trent Reznor and the rest of the cast and crew of The Social Network. So very well deserved. I also teared up for Chris Colfer, of Glee, who won best supporting actor in a series, especially after he dedicated the award to the anti-bullying movement. Class act, that one.

But back to the gowns! Wondering who made my best and worst list? Well, wonder no longer…here it is!

Glee’s Dianna Agron, Easy A’s Emma Stone, Black Swan’s Natalie Portman, Temple Grandin’s Claire Danes, Mad Men’s January Jones, Black Swan’s Mila Kunis and Covert Affair’s Piper Perabo all made my best of list.

Halle Berry, Scarlett Johansson, Tron’s Olivia Wilde, Blue Valentine’s Michelle Williams and The King’s Speech’s Helena Bonham Carter, unfortunately did not.

I wish I could have gone into more detail as to why I loved and hated each outfit, but I sat back and enjoyed the show with no laptop in hand (only wine), so before I knew it, it was past my bedtime. I’d love to discuss with all of you in comments though – do you all agree, disagree or have more gowns to add to either list? Let me know!

Lovable Friday!

1. Fox Scarf

Finally you can wear an animal around your neck and not get any slack from PETA! This perfectly kitschy knit scarf by Donna Wilson is too cute for words! In fact, I think I would find it too cute to wear. I would probably sit it on my couch, pretend it was my pet, feed it imaginary cupcakes and reminisce about one of my favorite childhood cartoons, David the Gnome.

My Emmy’s Recap

So I decided to skip Weekend Highlights this Monday and instead, bring to you what you are really interested in: what everyone was wearing at the Emmy’s last night! I love awards shows because not only do I get to see all my favorite actors in one spot, but I also get to lust over some beautiful gowns. And now, thanks to avidly watching Rachel Zoe on Bravo, I know how much blood, sweat and tears goes into selecting those gowns! So without further ado, here are my favorites and not so favorites from the night:

The ladies of Glee definitely knew it was their time to shine and boy, did they ever! Lea Michele looked absolutely gorgeous in her navy ruffled gown and the hilarious Jane Lynch could stop traffic in her plum, form-fitting one shoulder. Claire Danes looked like an Emmy herself in a sparkly, strapless sheath that perfectly complimented her platinum feathered locks. And finally, Anna Paquin doned on a fabulous Alexander McQueen number that was definitely designed with matadors in mind. Hot ones, that is.

It’s a shame because even though I am not a fan of the show, I think the ladies of Mad Men are absolutely stunning and they looked anything but on Emmy night. January Jones looked like her hair had gotten into a fight with a hair dryer and that dress in that color was just awful on her. Christina Hendricks wasn’t too far behind with her hairy frock in a dull and lifeless icy lavender. Poor funny ladies Tina Fey and Mindy Kaling also missed the fashion boat with their unappealing gothic ensembles. Better luck next time ladies!

Also, I’d just like to chime in that I adored the opening number (HURLEY! & Nina!) and that I was beyond disappointed that LOST did not win in one of their categories. I know there was a lot of controversy surrounding how they ended the last season, but you cannot deny the superb acting of all cast members and weight of the show in pop culture. I was not a happy camper. I was also not so pleased to see that Fringe wasn’t even nominated for any categories. What’s going on, people? I may be the only one, but I just do not see the appeal in Mad Men (yes, I have watched & couldn’t stomach any of the characters) and what the hell is Breaking Bad?

Feel free to chime in your own opinions of the night down below in the comments!

Weekend Highlights: MTV Movie Awards

We had a pretty busy weekend, but no photos to really document it, so instead I will dish about the 2010 MTV Movie Awards with you all on this fine Monday morning. Excellent.

Picture 1

– Kristen Stewart looked really pretty in her D&G dress, but she is still so painful to watch. Can someone up her dosage of Xanax?
– Yay for Sandra Bullock. She deserved all the praise. Totally love her. (& her hot shoes)
– Katy Perry & Russell Brand are such a cute couple.
– ScarJo & Ryan are never together at any awards shows. I am officially suspicious.
– Tom Cruise managed to erase years and years of bad press with one performance.
– I felt so terrible for poor Tom Felton during his acceptance speech – I still don’t really understand why Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell were hanging from wires.
– Speaking of Tom Felton, I literally got goosebumps during the Potter teaser.
– Hearts on vaginas. I hope this is not a new trend.
– Twilight won everything. Surprise?

& while on the pop culture tip, how excited are my fellow truebies about this Sunday’s season 3 premiere??
Let’s hope this week goes by quickly! ;)

1. Christian Louboutin
1. Christian Louboutin

Every time I think Louboutin has made his most outrageous pair of shoes yet, he comes out with another absolutely amazing pair that I lust over for months. And you’re looking right at them above! Unfortunately, these sparkly pretties go for $1,195. Mortgage anyone?

Pretty in Oscar

I’m going to have to forego posting about my weekend this Monday so that I can pay homage to the Oscars Red Carpet – afterall, I know celebrity gawking and gossip is way more entertaining than my own life, right? Right.

I have to say that I was a bit disappointed with the level of glamor this year at the Oscars. It seemed like everyone was “playing it safe” when it came to their gown choice. Everyone’s outfits kind of resembled dresses I would see being worn at any black tie wedding. I mean, I’m sure they are thousands of dollars more, but you get me?

Although there weren’t many, here are my favorites from the night:

And my not so favorites:

So what did you guys think? Do you agree? Disagree?

Have a fabulous week, everyone!

Golden Globes

Sorry I’m so late to the game, everyone, but I had one hell of a Monday!
Thankfully, I had the day off from work but the higher powers that be decided it would be best if I didn’t take it as a day of rest.

My Mustang crapped out on me as I was leaving the gym for my usual cardio workout. Turns out I needed a new battery and I was lucky my brother-in-law also had the day off and was able to help me. The ‘Stang is open for business once more!

Anywho, that would be why I was so absent from the Internets, but I really wanted to post about the Globes!

GG05art-low

– I was so happy that Michael C. Hall won for his category. Not only was it an amazing season for Dexter, but it had to feel great for him after battling cancer. It really broke my heart to see him in that little black beanie. I love my little serial killer!
Ricky Gervais did a great job hosting. He really cracked me up. So inappropriate. So right.
– How annoying was Chloe Sevigny? I couldn’t stand how she continuously complained about her dress the entire night. First to NBC about the rain ruining her gown and then to that poor man that helped her up to the stage after he stepped on and ripped it. It’s a freaking dress, honey. Probably one you don’t even own so shut your trap.
Julia Roberts was tanked from the moment she got out of her limo. Excellence.
– Is Avatar really that good?
Drew Barrymore‘s acceptance speech was adorable.
– I love this man.

But now on to what’s really important: the gowns!

1. Tim Burton's Installment at the MoMA
1. Tim Burton's Installment at the MoMA

Is it now considered cliche to love Tim Burton? How Hot Topic of me. I am, as always, envious of all New York City residents because now they can see this exhibit at the MoMA until April of 2010. The exhibit includes props from his movies, sketches and amazing designs from one of the most creative minds in Hollywood (in my opinion anyways). I’ve begged the hubs to take me on a weekend trip to NYC just so I can hit up this event. Anyone that has gone or is going, please feel me in so I can live vicariously through you!

Our love is so rock steady

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale Wedding

I’d like to wish my most favoritest couple ever a very very happy wedding anniversary and I hope they have many many more to come. They are one of the only Hollywood couples that know how to do it right and it’s a breath of fresh air. I just hope Ms. Stefani finally realizes that it’s OK to loan him out every now and then as I’ve been waiting for my turn for quite some time. ;)

Also, some brief thoughts on last night’s VMA’s:

– Kanye West is the biggest douche on this planet.
– I have come to the conclusion that I do not understand Lady Gaga.
Muse being introduced as “the band that influenced Twilight” put a stake through my heart. Repeatedly.
– I am pretty far removed from what is considered “popular music.”
– I’m totally OK with that.

ps; No worries! The weekend wrap-up will be up tomorrow – I have to play a little catch up!
