1. Fun Tiles

I absolutely love the tile in this London property. It almost seems a little Mondrian in style, no? I think it really makes a great modern impression and looks fantastic against the retro tube. Love the juxtaposition! I just wish I could figure out how they did it. Different color tiles? Painted certain tiles? A woman has got to know!

Must Have List: Fall

Although we don’t have seasons here in South Florida, it seems like Fall is in full swing for all the rest of you. Plus, us Floridians really love traveling during colder months so that we can experience it ourselves. For this reason, I thought it was necessary to feature some of this season’s must have looks. That, and I absolutely love cold weather clothes – I just think people look classier and more put together. Wouldn’t you agree?

What I Wore: Dotted Denim

Ever since my Forever 21 fiasco that caused my self-imposed strike (proud I haven’t stepped foot in a F21 since the incident), I have been lusting over a good pair of dotted denim. I thought I had found the perfect pair at F21, but ha-ha, jokes on them! I found a fantastic pair at my favorite Marshall’s location that look even better! It’s always a tough job to pair patterned pants, but I like how these make it pretty easy with their dark denim wash and white dots. Have I mentioned how much I love all these fun trends? I feel like fashion has been taking a turn for the more whimsical and youthful and I couldn’t be anymore excited. I feel like I’m playing dress up every time I walk into my closet!

A Little Me Time

After some rough weeks, I thought it was time to have a little “me” day. Although, I’m pretty sure my idea of a “me” day is different from other girls. For me, it was getting a crazy-colored dye job and a fandom tattoo! I couldn’t be happier.

I’d just like to say that my hair stylist is the bomb. She always knows exactly what would work great with my style and isn’t afraid to take the risks I ask her to. If any of you readers are in the South Florida area, I can’t recommend Valerie at Kendall’s Peter of London enough. My orange and purple ombre is beyond. BEYOND. I think this one has even topped the pink!

Later that night, I was able to finally put my fandom (and endurance) to the test by tattooing the deathly hallows on my ribs. It had been something my best friend and the hubs had wanted to do as a bonding experience and although it didn’t work quite as planned (we just couldn’t sync up), it is pretty special. Another great recommendation if you are looking for a fantastic tattoo artist is Javier Betancourt at Ocho Placas – he did such an amazing job and has great “bedside manner.”

How was your weekend?

Style This! {Target Dress}

My dear old friend, Aliza, was sweet enough to ask me to help her style an outfit revolving around a really cute Target dress she had recently bought. She also added that I should probably add these kind of posts to Melificent. And you know what? I agree! I love putting together fun outfits for not only myself, but others too. I frequently help the hubs’ style his models for shoots when I can and find it so fun! There’s nothing like rummaging through other people’s closets. Am I right, ladies?

So if you’d like me to help you style an outfit and feature it here on the blog, shoot me an email at: meli@melificent.com

Without further ado, here is the fun outfit I put together for Ms. Aliza:

1. Fluo Pearl Cuff {here}
2. Origami Clutch {here}
3. Nameplate necklace {here}
4. Owl studs {here}
5. Wedges {here}

Although I’m not sure what the event/occasion is for this little number, I figured it needed a punch of sass. And that punch came in the form of killer shoes. I wanted them to be the focus of the outfit, so all other accessories kind of took a backseat since the dress is already quite bright as well. However, they still provide a fun and young, albeit understated, feel. Hope you like what I came up with, Aliza, and I hope to do more of these in the future!

PopBasic Launch

I know there are a lot of sites that promise to send you goodies on a monthly basis based on your style and interests, but I was instantly drawn to Popbasic‘s take on it. They send you what they refer to as a “micro collection” every month that features one basic and two pop (or statement) pieces. It fit my style aesthetic perfectly – as you all know, I love to pair basics with bright and bold pieces to really make an outfit, well….pop! It just seemed like a match made in heaven. And now the site is prepping to launch next month, and I could not be more excited!

I also love that their idea of a basic is a polka dotted blouse, and that each parcel comes with a little beauty or lifestyle surprise. You can decide to buy it as an entire parcel or select individual pieces, which will be priced between $50 – $100 (with free shipping). If this, too, is all making you clap like a baby seal, click here to check out the first collection video and here to save your spot (it’s free)!

What I Wore:

What a gloomy weekend we had down here in Miami. It was definitely not the way we all wanted to welcome Fall, but here’s to hoping the sun decides to make a comeback soon. I know I’ve mentioned on the blog before that my mood gets severely affected depending on the weather (hello SAD), so I find it absolutely necessary to remedy it by wearing something colorful and adorable. It’s just the only way. ;)

What I Wore: Autumnal

It’s kind of funny that I enjoy Fall so much because we don’t have any semblance of seasons here in Miami aside from hot and unbearable. But when this time of year rolls around, I get a little warm and fuzzy feeling in my heart that isn’t zapped out of me until the mention of Christmas (my least favorite holiday – although decorating is fun). I’m pretty sure it has a lot of do with Halloween being my number one favorite holiday and my wedding anniversary. Oh, and pumpkin everything.

That is why I decided it was high time to start dressing a little more autumnal. And yes, this is autumnal for Miami. All you readers that are cozy in your scarves, boots and hot chocolates: try not to hate too bad. ;)

What I Wore: Neon & Dots

Who doesn’t love to reconnect with their childhood? I personally love to dress like my inner 6-year-old princess. It makes me feel light, full of life and a little less anxiety ridden. After all, wouldn’t we all want to go back to those easy, simple times where our biggest concern was which My Little Pony needed the most brushing? I know I would.

This outfit has everything I absolutely adore: sparkles, dots and neon! I also decided to face my peplum problem head on and give it a whirl. Turns out us curvy girls can also sport the style after all! Just remember to pair it with heels to give you maximum height to equal out the extra volume. I decided to push my height even further with a high bun paired with this adorable Ban.do bow. I love love love bright statement pieces!
