{Hunger Games Week}: Jennifer Lawrence’s Mockingjay Style

Yes, I know I am kind of behind on all the Hunger Games premiere fashion, but I just had to touch on the fact that I love that Jennifer Lawrence has been subtly paying tribute to her character, Katniss, in her gown choices. Would you not agree? Her two separate gold frocks made me immediately think of the now infamous mockingjay pin she wears in the games, her back-baring Tom Ford reminded me of the flame suits and/or the moment Katniss embraces being the mockingjay and finally, the absolutely stunning Marchesa worn in Berlin just screamed girl on fire.

More importantly, which was your favorite?
I personally think Jennifer rocked it out in every look, but my personal favorite was her glimmery gold Prabal Gurung complete with sexy cut outs and dramatic train. When I saw her, I literally gasped. Girl knows how to work a red carpet!

*the rest of this week will be all Hunger Games, all the time leading up to the mega-watt premiere this weekend!

1. Chevron Candles

I think candles are so pretty and I love having them around the house, but I never want to light them. Is that normal? I know I definitely wouldn’t want to with these pretty chevron candles from the always fabulous zgallerie. I mean, how amazing are they? Definitely too amazing to light, that’s for sure.

{The Limited}: Shirt

Although I no longer have to wear it (I have a uniform), I really enjoy rocking the business casual. Mainly because I can make it my own and try my best not to stick to the boring basics. I personally believe that a good outfit can make you feel better about yourself, and your work day. Would you not agree? I know I always had a better day at work when I knew I looked good, and the same can apply to any environment. This is pretty easy to do with The Limited‘s Collins Shirt, which in a nutshell is a really fun and modern take on the basic work shirt. Its vibrant colors, loose fit and wide sleeves make it the perfect ingredient for any work outfit that can very well transition into after hour cocktails. And what girl doesn’t like that? ;)

What I Wore: The Concert That Never Was

I’ve decided that if I get my own SLR, I wouldn’t have to bother the poor hubs with frequent outfit posts. Every now and then, I get the opportunity to use a borrowed company camera and I fall in love. Hard. But until that day…

I got all dolled up last week to see the awesome Boyce Avenue at Revolution, but unfortunately, plans got a little botched and we ended up not attending (sniff). However, I decided to still feature the outfit because…well, it was cute! I also unintentionally paid homage to the 10 Cent Designer, Lori Andrews, during my shoot. I put my camera on our dining table on self-timer and must have stood too close for comfort because my head was missing! To satisfy my inner artist, I just decided to go with it.

Happy Hump Day: David Gandy

I love featuring male models on hump day because I get to sift through an excessive amount of photos, unlike regular actors. I have to thank my lovely friend, Rosa, from Accidental Sexiness for this recommendation. David Gandy is a BRITISH model (I love when amazingly beautiful men come with an equally beautiful accent) that is best known for his work with Dolce & Gabbana. He is also ranked as the 3rd most successful male model according to Forbes magazine. Not too shabby, Gandy…

Oh. And he’s pretty much the perfect male specimen.
Carry on.

1. Polka Dot glassware

I am totally loving the fun polkie revolution taking place all across design. After all, who can deny a good polka dot? I know I can’t. One for not taking glassware/tableware very seriously (we never registered for china – wtf for, man?!), I am totally lusting after these beauties. I think it would be absolutely impossible not to smile while drinking from them, even though I’m pretty sure I would just place them on my kitchen counter and admire them from afar. File this one under possibly too cute to use!

What I Wore: The Perfect Shirt

We are always searching for perfection, aren’t we? The perfect cup of tea, the perfect man, the perfect moment, and of course, the perfect shirt. When Conversation Pieces began singing the praises of their supposed perfect shirt, I naturally was a bit skeptical. Perfect? Really? What makes it so?

I quickly found out: super soft fabric, adjustable sleeves, basic colors and versatility. You can tuck it in for a business casual look at the office or a date night or leave it out to pair with your favorite pair of skinnies and high heels. I decided better than to just gush about it, I’d show you myself! I put together 2 outfits (of the many I’m sure I could throw together with this shirt) that reflected two different looks: (1) a fancy date night & (2) a fun girls night out.

Date Night!

1. Decorative Arrows

I have to say I am really loving all the decorative arrow elements I’m seeing all around Pinterest and Etsy! They are all very Katniss Everdeen – makes you wonder if the trend started just to spur more Hunger Games hype, right? But seriously, how cute would these mini pastel arrows look on a mantel or console table (you know I’m thinking about mine). Get some here!

What I Wore: Downtown Disney

After our Disney photo-taking extravaganza, we took it easy the following day and just strolled around Downtown Disney and had a few drinks at a nearby brewery. I was so happy to see so many restaurants offering gluten free options (favorite definitely being the GF fish & chips at Raglan Road Pub) – going out to eat is usually a huge struggle for me (honestly, I’ve been avoiding it lately), but it was made so easy on this trip. You really got to give it to Disney for trying to make it a pleasurable experience for all their guests.

Something else I love about Disney? You can dress a little wilder than usual and not get many side glances. Although you may be thinking my outfit isn’t that cray, I assure you it is for typical Miami folk. I always feel like I have to reign in my style (dumb it down so to speak) on days where I just don’t feel like getting those strange looks from people on the street. But not here. Oh no, Disney encourages you to hoist your freak flag and I love it. This outfit was paired with my Mickey ears earlier, but due to some serious gusts of wind, I had to take it off and tuck it in the safety of my purse. I really wish I would have gotten some shots with them on though – I was channeling a modern Minnie Mouse. ;)

Do You Want My Clothes?

My closet desperately needed a Spring, Winter, Fall, and Summer cleaning so I went ahead and did so yesterday. While I was making my pile, I realized a lot of the victims had never even been worn once! I didn’t think it was right to just toss them aside without offering them a new home first where they could at least see the light of day. So I decided to offer them to all of you, lovely readers! If no one is interested, then up on Ebay they will go, but you all get first dibs!

If you want to snag a piece, leave me a comment saying so and it will be yours. First come, first serve! Just as an aside, these all come from a smoke-free home and at max, have been worn once.

Happy shopping!

This Marc Jacobs dress is actually a size 2, totally my error. :)
