Fun Manicures

Manicures seem to be the theme of the blog this week, and such a hot trend right now! Although I do love doing my own nails and see it as a form of therapy, I wish I was talented enough to do the elaborate designs I see on other’s nails. Unfortunately, my hands can be pretty shaky – especially using the left hand, so I don’t think I will ever be that successful. However, that doesn’t mean I can’t collect some of my favorite creative and fun manicures to day dream about.

What I Wore: Hostess Duties

This past weekend I hosted a fun afternoon for some of my favorite girls consisting of lots of champagne, crafting (friendship bracelets to be exact) and at-home manicures. It was also doubling as a birthday celebration for one of my best friends, Elissa. We had such a good time, and despite the surprising difficulty level of those silly bracelets, decided we should get together to make crafts together at least once a month! With the holidays coming, I can’t wait to plan little projects for us to do together (with plenty of liquor involved, of course). Look out for the official party post tomorrow, complete with details and fun action shots!

With that said, I decided to dress the part and pulled out the color! When I chose to wear a fun striped shirt, I had to pair it with my favorite bells for that retro vibe. I attempted my best blogger bun (I’m really no good at it) and rocked my sky high wedges to complete the fun and relaxed look.

Lovable Friday!

1. Champagne & Grapes

I thought the 12 grapes signifying luck for each of the months to come was just a Cuban NYE tradition (maybe that’s just the throwing buckets of water out your door bit). I had no idea that others did the same, but (as always) Martha Stewart clarifies by posting this lovely party detail and adding that it originated in Spain. Definitely makes the grapes look more refined than what my Mom makes me take in my purse to every New Years festivity I have attended since I was old enough to not celebrate at home (looks eerily similar to this). It would also help me avoid hearing, “No te olvides de las uvas!” over and over again for a good solid week.

1. Mischief Managed Tee

This fandom shirt is just…brilliant. It’s perfectly understated, yet reads loud and clear: the owner is definitely a Potter fan – with taste. Which is why I must have it. Unfortunately, the tiny online store, Revolution 9, was overwhelmed by all the orders for their unique and surprisingly trendy Harry Potter merchandise in preparation for the final movie and they are still trying to recover. But I can be patient. I think this one will be worth the wait. ;)

ShoeDazzle Review

I have to say I was a bit skeptical with the whole ShoeDazzle program. Cheap, good looking shoes every month? It seemed too “pie in the sky” for this shoe lover. But after a few pictures from friends of their recent purchases, I decided to take the plunge. On my birthday, I ordered my first pair, and they just came in this past weekend! They are absolutely adorable, fit great and seem to be as comfortable as 4 inch heels can afford. As far as the site itself, I do have some gripes. When building my style profile, it asks for your age range, and unfortunately I was categorized in a different age bracket (le sigh). I think this totally affected my showroom selections, which is completely silly. The rest of my profile accurately reflected my style: modern, fun and bold, but I was delivered these really plain jane shoes in my showroom. Needless to say, I was bummed, so I requested alternate selections. These were still not my cup of tea (although a little better). I’m planning on requesting yet another showroom, but the reason I’m not that upset is because the rest of the shoes available are so fantastic (like my first pair) and you have the ability to opt out each month if nothing catches your eye or it just doesn’t fit your budget at the moment – without being charged. If you are interested, get schooled on the program here.

*This review is my honest opinion and I was not financially compensated in any way by ShoeDazzle for my review. I joined the program and purchased these shoes independently and just wanted to share my experience with my readers as it seemed like a topic of interest.

What I Wore: Birthday Girl

I’m back! I’ve really missed sharing pieces of my life with all of you this past week – something that always seems to happen when I take a break from the blog, but it’s a necessary evil at times. I celebrated a milestone birthday a little over a week ago, and I must say, it was a difficult one to swallow. I had a rough few days leading up to it, but have decided to try my best to embrace it. And naturally that started by wearing a kick ass outfit that definitely did not read old lady. I was meeting with my family for a birthday dinner at PF Changs so I wanted to look casual, but still rock my birthday girl status. Warning: I’m pretty sure I will live in these shorts for the rest of the year (a plus side to living in South Florida: never ending summer weather). They are slinky, light and oh so fabulous! Plus they can be paired with any neutral tee for a perfectly effortless look. I added my favorite pair of sky-high wedges and I was ready to party!

Squeeworthy: T-Shirts.com

I love a good tee. Especially a good fandom one. As you all know by now, I am a fan of many a band, movie and show. I just love a whole lot of things and I like to showcase that love as often as I possibly can. Cue t-shirts.com! They have an extensive collection, from band shirts to nerdy phrases to cult shows. Anything you want, they have. And I can vouch for their quality. They are soft and comfortable. So comfortable I rocked my t-shirts.com Bowie tee to my most recent outdoor derby practice. Needless to say, I got multiple compliments from teammates and coaches, and didn’t feel like it was cramping my style either (despite the 100+ heat).  If you are in the market for some fun new tees, I would definitely check them out!

As for all of you interested in how my 2nd practice went, feel free to click the link.

What I Wore: Summer Fun Day

We started off Saturday with big plans: we were going to attend a local craft fair up north in Ft. Lauderdale and then spend some quality time with friends that we don’t get to see too often. Along the way, the craft fair idea got ditched and we ended up spending the entire day with our friends at Hillsboro Beach. It was really nice to just relax, hang out and talk with good friends. It kind of felt like we were on a mini day vaca. I wanted to wear my summer best, so I whipped up a colorful and fun outfit. I’m absolutely in love with this oversized tee from Lazy Oaf and wish I could wear it every day. There are so many ways to remix (check me out with my hip fashion blogger lingo), which makes it so versatile. I also had planned to pair it with a jean skirt, but decided to be a little ballsy and slapped on my tiniest pair of shorts. Surprisingly, I didn’t hate what I saw, so I may be using these shorts (my only pair – shocking, I know) more often this summer!
