What I Wore: Summer lovin’

The hubs and I had a pretty chill Sunday (I love those). We had to run some errands and were hoping to stop by and eat lunch at the new Sonic Beach in Homestead, but we quickly found out it wasn’t open yet (but it is now). We settled for a quick bite at Chili’s and had some fun later that night with a photoshoot starring both myself and fashion blogger, The Fashionable ESQ! I’ve been anti-jeans lately, and that day was no different. Although it’s absolutely miserable weather-wise most of the time, I really love summer time in Miami. Everyone just feels so much more relaxed, and weekends are all about fun in the sun. It also brings out the maxi dresses, shorts and sandals. Can you say hello comfort?

Such a goofball.

Melificent Mentions

So I know I said I would be taking a week-long hiatus, but I couldn’t help but share some of these amazing nods to both myself and the blog. It’s been pretty exciting to see this blog take shape over the past couple of years, and I love having it as my unofficial 2nd job. I’m even more proud of the opportunities that seem to be sprouting all over lately. I can only cross my fingers and hope this string of amazing continues.

Both myself and my girlie outfit for SheCon were featured on Tyra Banks’ beauty and fashion website, Type F. Check out the rest of the slideshow to see other Miami ladies strutting their fashion sense both at the convention and on the streets of Lincoln Road.

I was also published on my first blog outside of Melificent for Ultimate Coupons. I wrote up a post about shopping gluten-free on a budget, which is a topic I am constantly grappling with myself. If you are also anti-wheat, make sure to check it out. Who knows? You may get some pointers! Also, the site has some fabulous ways to cut back on spending without losing style, comfort and fun so make sure to browse around a bit.

Dreaming in Ginger

While looking through Pinterest, this picture caught my eye immediately. Besides being a gorgeous photo of a gorgeous girl, I couldn’t help but drool over her equally gorgeous hair. It instantly made me miss my red hair. Although I have been having a great time as a blonde (seriously starting to believe that they have more fun), and think it’s a really flattering shade for the summer, I am pretty sure I’ll be mimicking this one for my birthday. It’s just so vibrant and eye catching, don’t you think? And not to toot my own horn, but I’m pretty sure I make a pretty hot redhead.

What shade are you hoping to or wish you could rock this summer?

Romper Room

While trolling the beach over the weekend, I could not help but notice that everyone was rockin’ a romper! I am a big fan of rompers, but mainly when they are on other people besides myself. I just do not think I can pull them off since I think my legs are my weakest feature, but after seeing all the fun, fabulous fashionistas strutting their stuff up and down Lincoln Road, I think I may give one a whirl. Well, maybe after I take up spinning again….

To Crop Top or Not?

I remember back in my undergrad days, showing off your belly was totally in vogue.
In fact, I think my mid-section got more airtime than my own face during that time.

And now it seems that the trend has come back in crop tops once more. I’ve seen a lot of young girls sporting the look, and it isn’t always flattering, but I have to admit that I’ve been tempted to purchase one of these lately. I haven’t because I think I may be too old to rock them – my tummy definitely doesn’t look like it used to back in the day, but I’ve encountered some pretty cute styles out there. Then I saw this adorable ensemble on Lookbook, and I kind of fell in love:

So what do you guys think?
Should these tops be left to teens & college students in their early 20’s or
can an almost-30-year-old own this look?

Lovable Friday!

1. Brightly colored pumps

I guess we can all thank Gwyneth Paltrow and her hot colorful heels at the Grammy’s for this new trend. And I’m not really complaining. These babies are a great substitute and at $32, you can’t deny them! Too bad I’d probably fall on my face with those serious stilettos. I’m going to have to start practicing ;)

Squeeworthy: Ardent Sparrow

If you are a fan of Etsy to the extent that I am, you are really going to hate me for introducing you to Heartsy. And I’m really sorry for what I’m about to do, but you know what they say: misery loves company. And my wallet is definitely miserable, but my heart is happy with all these amazing deals! Heartsy is a Groupon-type site that posts deals for certain Etsy stores.

I fell for the Ardent Sparrow deal a couple of weeks ago, and am so happy I had that weak moment. They specialize in beautifully made romantic jewelry such as earrings, necklaces, rings and bobby pins. It was so hard to choose only a couple of items – in fact, I’m pretty sure I scrolled through their entire inventory 3 times before making a decision. But I did, and it was a pair of these gorgeous leaf earrings and a white gold plated love necklace.

And the best part is, I still have a wee bit of credit so that means one more glorious piece of jewelry in my future! I hope this discovery does not ruin any of your bank accounts, and I am readily anticipating lovingly insulting comments down below ;)

1. Scalloped Purse

Scallops have once again melted my heart. This clutch is just all sorts of wonderful. Between the color, the fabric and the little gold tassle, my heart has hit girly overload. I must have it. Unfortunately, it is $100. Oh Top Shop, you vile wench. I shall have my way with you in November!

Squeeworthy: Out of Print Clothing

I’ll never forget my first grade teacher, Ms. Wahl. She tutored me during the summer going into 2nd grade because I just could not read. I don’t know what it was about the process, but it did not sit well with me. I didn’t get it. At all. But she helped me. She helped me so much I became an avid reader shortly after. So avid that my mom didn’t know what to do with me and my voracious appetite to go through book after book after book. And that’s when my love affair began with reading.
