{30 Days of Fashion}: Day 12

January 12th, 2011:

Top; Forever 21
Skirt; Forever 21
Footless tights; Target
Yellow booties; Charlotte Russe
Jean jacket; Old Navy
Scarf; Stolen from hubs
Earrings; Old Navy

When it comes to my own personal style, one thing is for sure: I’m not scared of color. I’m usually drawn to the brightest and loudest pieces when I am out shopping. You know, the ones other people run away from, flailing their arms in complete and utter terror. Sure, people tell me they don’t like some of the things I wear, but I brush it off. One person’s tacky is another’s treasure. And I have complete confidence that I can transform tacky or gaudy into fun and kitschy. What can I say? It’s a talent. ;)

One of those people happens to be my husband. He totally hates the boots I’m wearing, but I adore them. I think they are so fun and really add a pop of color in the best way. We are having yet another cold front here in sunny South Florida, so I had to break out the big guns. Big guns being a jacket, tights and a scarf. Chilling, I know. Little secret factoid: I live for scarves. I wish I could wear them every day and basically did in grad school until I was mocked by “friends.” Happy to say that I’ve grown up and comments like those now slide off my back. I like color. It defines me. I wear it well. Too bad, so sad!

Moral of the story?
Don’t hold back when it comes to fashion. It’s supposed to be fun. When you embrace your style unapologetically, you will really understand its power.

{30 Days of Fashion}: Day 11

January 11th, 2011:

3/4 length tee; Poof! found at Marshall’s
Dark skinny jeans; Target
Ruffle flats; Kenneth Cole found at Loehmann’s
Watch; Crow
Apple Earrings; Pink Ghost

I was hitting the streets today for my job (I drive a lot. A whole lot), so I needed to wear something that would be comfy, but stylish. I was going to be spending a lot of time in my car, but also at schools and foster homes so I couldn’t look a mess either. I think a pair of skinny jeans with a 3/4 length tee always seems to do the trick when going for trendy casual. I really loved the nautical stripes and boatneck of this tee – really stood out while I was thrashing through what seemed like miles and miles of clothing racks at my local Marshall’s. I especially love that you can either wear it as pictured, or off the shoulder if you are feeling especially Molly Ringwald at the moment. My automatic reaction when wearing blue or navy nautical stripes is to pair it with red accessories. You just can never go wrong!

On an aside, kind of nuts that I can already see a change in my body after a week and a half of steady dieting and spinning. Definitely a motivator to keep me going!

{30 Days of Fashion}: Day 10

January 10th, 2011:

Dress; Target
Footless tights; Target
Flats; Target
Necklace; Skeleton key purchased on Etsy, put on an old chain

Didn’t realize I was rocking a head-to-toe Tarjay outfit today until I put together this post! Who says you can’t put together an amazing ensemble on a budget? Happy to be able to wear this dress again – the first time I wore it was sans tights and I felt like I was a little too old to be baring so much leg. Tights to the rescue! I paired it with my favorite flats (told you guys I wear them a lot) and a fun skeleton key necklace that I made on the fly that morning with an old chain and an Etsy purchase. Voila! Another cheery outfit for a not-so-cheery day. I had a pretty tedious day in the office and then got my butt handed to me on a silver platter by a new spinning instructor. Oof.

And for those of you wondering, the soundtrack to these photos was The White Stripes. Hotel Yorba to be exact. ;)

ps; Photos are now larger by request! See? I listen!

{30 Days of Fashion}: Day 9

January 9th, 2011:

Long tissue tank; Old Navy
Tunic sweater vest; Forever 21
Boyfriend ripped jeans; Gap
Earrings; vintage
Bracelet; gifted
High top Converse; Journey’s

Talk about a slouchy Sunday. Yes, I am guilty of wearing the same tank two days in a row – didn’t you hear me? Slouchy. I completed some more random small home projects (I have 2 pages full) and did some major blogging along with some minor party planning for our Valentine’s Day dinner at home. I love these jeans – they fit my mood: relaxed. The only thing that bums me out is that they don’t tend to match with anything but neutrals. Same goes for my hot Chucks that I heart ever so much – they are so busy and loud that it’s hard to pair them with anything but white. But aren’t they great?

{30 Days of Fashion}: Day 8

January 8th, 2011:

V-neck Tee; Gap
Long tissue tank; Old Navy
Jeans; Gap Curvy
Neon flats; H&M
Flower earrings; Forever 21

We decided to have an impromptu getty at our place with a few friends Saturday night so I had to throw on something quick since I had spent the day in workout clothes. That meant my favorite pair of jeans, and a pair of simple white tees. To not be too horribly boring, I slipped on my loudest pair of flats in neon orange. I decided to include my beer bottle in the pictures because I hadn’t had any beer in a week (!!!), since I have decided to limit my alcohol intake to only weekends. As silly as it seems, it is really working! I’m also pairing a healthier diet with spinning twice a week, so hopefully you will not only see fashion for the next 30 days, but weight loss as well!

Unfortunately, later that night I just so happened to step in doggy dookie and got it all over my adorable flats. It took me a while to notice, so I had gotten it on my jeans too. Why do these things only happen to me? I had to change my outfit half-way throughout the night. Thankfully I was at home!

{30 Days of Fashion}: Day 7

January 7th, 2011:

Dress; Forever 21
Lace tank; Marshalls
Footless tights; Target
Flats; Target
Heart earrings; Forever 21

Some chilly weather rolled back into South Florida this weekend, so I was able to break out the tights once more. When I walked out the door, I realized that it was a bit chillier than anticipated so I paired the outfit with a jean jacket from Old Navy that just happened to be in my car’s backseat. I love this floral dress because it has that sexy secretary vibe – it’s low cut, but has a classic silhouette. I usually wear the dress sans under tank, but for the office, I had to cover up. The full skirt made me feel Friday-appropriate: fun, flirty and playful!

Lovable Friday!

1. Pinterest

Although I’ve been a member of Pinterest for a little while now, it just recently hit me how amazing it truly is. I have been a pinning fool. It’s an addiction that I do not want to recover from. I love the idea of having virtual pin boards where I can collect ideas in organized sets. I used to do the same on Flickr, but it was messy and difficult to sort through. This, is so much sleeker and better. Plus, you get to share your pins with others and sort through their pins (and repin similar to Tumblr) as well. Feel free to visit my boards and if it strikes your fancy, say so in the comments so I can send you an invite!

{30 Days of Fashion}: Day 6

January 6th, 2011

Sweater tunic; Forever 21
Jeggings; Nordstrom Rack
Striped Wedges; H&M

Yeah, I rock jeggings. And what?
I really don’t understand all the hate surrounding jeggings. I love my pair so much, I went out and got another a month later just so I am always stocked. I think they are a great alternative to skinny jeans, if you are looking for comfort and they look spectacular with tunic tops when paired with heels like I did yesterday.

I adore the vibrant color of this sweater top, and although you can’t see it in the photos, it has this punk-y exposed zipper all along the back. Bad assery. Finally, I really love wedges, but am I the only one that struggles to keep them on? My feet always slip out the back of all my pairs to the point that I walk funny while I’m wearing them because I have to make sure my toes are gripped to the edge. This pair is no different, but I could not help myself. Look how cute they are!

ps; it’s really time for us to put away our Christmas tree, dontcha think? ;)

{30 Days of Fashion}: Day 5

January 5th, 2011

Dress; Necessary Objects found at Marshalls
Cardigan; Old Navy
Sandals; Enzo Angiolini found at Nordstrom Rack

I’m sure all you northerners are totally hating on me right now, as I was able to wear a sleeveless dress, without tights and paired with sandals. Welcome to Miami, my friends. Despite having multiple icy cold fronts during the holidays, we are right back to our muggy, humid selves…and it feels so good (that was sarcasm). I scored this dress on the clearance rack at Marshall’s for $10 – I guess people weren’t really feeling the whole pregnant sack vibe, but I think it’s absolutely perfect for work. It’s super comfortable, but I still look “put together.” So don’t abandon those clearance racks, ladies! I’ve found so many gems, I can’t even begin!

Also, check out my new rockin’ do. I got my hair cut (barely) and colored. I decided to go more blonde because I was feeling a little spunky and ready for 2011 to bring me some more fun. I must have done something right because my car finally got fixed today! I will no longer be a damsel in distress!

Until the next outfit…

{30 Days of Fashion}: Day 4

January 4th, 2011

Top; Forever 21
Cardigan; Forever 21
High-waisted skirt; American Apparel
Ruffled flats; Kenneth Cole Reaction found at Loehmann’s
Hoop Earrings; Old Navy
Headband; Wet Seal
Watch; Crow

I love me a good high-waisted skirt. Why? Well, it shows off the smallest part of my body and both works for office and play-time. After a very rough Monday, I decided to liven my mood through fashion! I paired the denim-styled skirt with another punch of red (seems to be my color this year, I guess) through an adorable floral top and fun cropped cardigan. I also continued the whimsy with ruffly flats and a sweet little headband to tame my too-long bangs. Although my outfit couldn’t have been cuter, I had another rough day fraught with yet more car troubles. Apparently, my car is not a fan of 2011. But no worries, I’ll whip that bitch into shape.

Luckily, later that night, I was rewarded with a haircut and color (isn’t it the best therapy???), so look out for my new look in tomorrow’s blog post!
