A Miami Girl Packs For the UK

I’m headed on a jet plane in a few to my favorite city in the world, London, but I wanted to share something with you all before I go! Although I am new to the whole vlogging world, I’m having a lot of fun putting these together. I hope you all enjoy a little how-to for those of us tropical girls that have a harder time packing for colder weather.

As always, special shout out to my amazing husband who is able to create these mini video masterpieces. See you all on the flip side!

What I Wore: Anglophile

For those of you that don’t know me, I am an Anglophile. What’s that you say? Well, someone that is obsessed with British culture! I can’t really pinpoint when I became enamored with the English, but I know it has not let up. In fact, we are visiting London for a second time next month (the first was so mind blowing, I cried upon arrival) and have been religiously watching BBC shows for months now (Sherlock is my new favorite). That’s why I had to pick up this adorable skirt. Royals, phone booths and palace guards? YES.

What I Wore: Geometric Goodies

Geometric prints are really huge this fall as accents on everything possible, so naturally I had to add a piece to my wardrobe. I loved this warm tee because it is so comfy and can go with anything. Although it’s a basic, the print makes it something a little more special. I wore it for a day of pampering at the salon to slightly correct my ombre and then took the look with me to a food truck rally to celebrate Mexican Independence Day. Naturally, the only thing I could eat were macarons. The life of a glutard…. ::sigh::

What’s Your Fandom?

So I realized that I don’t really highlight my fandoms as much as I should here. There have been far too many outfit posts and not enough geekdom. So to remedy that, I bring you some of my favorite fandom pieces I’ve stumbled on while searching Etsy (which is far too often by the way).

1. Mordor Tee ($22); 2.Deathly Hallows Shirt ($18); 3. Potter Sweater ($42); 4. Sherlock Tee ($18.99); 5. Jon Snow Tank ($20); 6. Game of Thrones Bowtie ($10); 7. Baby Time Lord ($25); 8. Crossover Pin ($7.95)

Honestly, every outfit is infinitely better if it is announcing to the world that you are a die hard follower, don’t you agree? If you want to get lost in geeky overload, definitely visit the shop, EvieTees. I want one of each (especially this one).

What I Wore: Brooklyn Bridge

Sunday was our last full day in NYC. Although it made us a little sad, we realized we had to make the best of it! We had brunch in Brooklyn at Heath Ledger’s restaurant, Five Leaves (yum!), visited the 9/11 memorial (so heavy & moving) and had dinner at the amazingly glutard-loving, Risotteria. I also got to walk the Brooklyn Bridge for the first time ever. What a view! It’s always really hard to say goodbye to this city, and this time was not any different. Miss you, NYC!

What I Wore: Brooklyn Hipster

Day two brought us to the hipster-laden Brooklyn. We visited the Brooklyn Flea, Adam Yauch Park and some sweet neighborhood views. Being in the hipster capital of the world, I figured I had to play the part outfit-wise. I thought I did a good job until I noticed that my bright colors totally stuck out like a sore thumb. Damn Brooklyn, I’m too colorful for you.

What I Wore: Travel Duds

I’ve decided that all clothes from Conversation Pieces are the perfect travel duds. They are soft, easy to pack and basically go with everything! This past weekend I visited New York City with my girlfriends and my wardrobe mainly consisted of pieces from the site. I can’t sing their praises enough. Both the hubs and I are headed to Europe next month and I plan on going straight to Conversation Pieces to stock up on all my last minute cold weather items.

Outfits aside, I totally need to gush about NYC and its gluten free options! I never struggled once with meals – everyone was so accommodating and understanding. I figured I would share where I ate each day so that any of my fellow glutards could follow in my footsteps if they visited the Big Apple themselves. On our first day, I had a great dinner at Bistango including gluten free garlic bread (!!!), delicious wine options and seafood pasta. My tummy was so happy. So happy in fact, that the meal carried me through the rest of the evening (complete with 90’s dance party). Success!

Lovable Friday

1. A Letter from Fred; A friend posted this on his Facebook, and I decided to listen as I was driving home from work. Well, needless to say, I think everyone driving by me thought someone had just died because I was sobbing in my driver’s seat. This is such a touching and heartfelt story about an old man and his undying love for his recently deceased wife. I think everyone should have the opportunity to experience a love this powerful and, as Frank put it, REAL. Just have your tissues ready.

2. Sherlock; Add another TV obsession to the list. Sherlock is just incredible. I love the beauty shots of my favorite city, the way the show is filmed and the incredible cast. It gives Sherlock Holmes a new modern side that you have never seen before. At a running time of 90 minutes an episode, you really have to commit, but it is so worth it. Seasons are only 3 episodes long, and trust me, they leave you wanting more. Plus, is Benedict Cumberbatch not the cutest? I totally adore him and his Asperger-ness.

3. *Nsync reunion; I have a confession to make: I used to be one helluva Nsync fangirl back in the day. I went to more shows than I can remember, learned all the dance moves and yes, even had a Lance Bass marionette (figures I loved the gay one). So when they reunited (even for a brief 2 minutes) on last weekend’s VMA’s, a little piece of me reverted back to that 18 year old hyper fan. Seriously, I screamed, jumped and possibly shed a few tears. But what a tease! I demand a reunion tour!

4. Jelly boots; These clear ombre-like boots are killing me. Mainly because I don’t know if I should add them to my wardrobe. Sure, they are fun and different, but will they stand the test of time? My vote is probably no, but I am not one to adhere to any of those silly guidelines anyways. Plus, this would give me another reason to buy more fun socks! Good talk, self. Good talk.

5. Black Milk’s Harry Potter line; As my best friend, Elsie, would say: “Just shut up & take my money.” I share that sentiment in regards to Black Milk Clothing’s new Harry Potter line that is slated to debut September 10th. Leggings, dresses and swimsuits decked out in marauder maps, deathly hallows and house crests? Say no more. How much were they again?

Lovable Friday!

1. Ombre sneaks; It’s no secret. I love all things ombre, especially when they come along with a DIY challenge! The uber talented Gissi, of The Architect of Style, broke down the steps of how to achieve perfectly rose petal dipped canvas shoes, and I have to say, this looks like something I can give a whirl. Maybe I should wait until after I finish my year long studded sneaker DIY, huh? Ha.

2. Donut piñata; Homer Simpson would be so proud. Although I’m pretty sure I’d never be able to DIY my own piñata, this one is just so cute it hurts. Definitely for those with a sweet tooth, it would be a perfect detail to any fiesta. If anyone tries it, definitely let me know!

3. Gold dot shower curtain; While shopping for a new shower curtain (life is super exciting these days), I stumbled on this amazing one. Unfortunately, it is no longer available (& had an outrageous price tag anyways), but it would have added such a touch of kitschy class to our master bathroom. Everything happens for a reason though: I was able to find an even better (& affordable) one that fits in perfectly with our mermaid/sea theme. Details soon!

4. Gold leaf barrette; Speaking of gold, this beautiful hair clip is the perfect accessory to jazz up any outfit. I honestly think it would even make a gorgeous bridal hairpiece for a boho chic wedding!

5. Lime Crime’s Babette; I’ve been on a Lime Crime high lately (hello unicorn packaging!), and have been obsessively stalking their new products. Babette had been in the works for some time, and now that it has been released, I need me one. Too bad I waited too long and it is now sold out. Drats.

What I Wore: Wynwood Sunday

Although the thought of Monday slowly creeping up beyond the distance can ruin any Sunday, they may be my new favorite. The hubs and I usually have a date day, try something new and explore. Although the Wynwood neighborhood is not new for us, I tried Panther Coffee for the first time (I don’t think I’m hipster enough to hang there) and finally got to try Taqueria (yay for corn tacos that don’t make me sick). The sun was blazing something fierce, but thankfully this super comfy silk dress kept it light and fresh. Paired with my new favorite surplus vest, I kind-of-maybe played the part of ultra cool hipster. ;)
