I think it’s a fear of change. People often forget that hair strands are just dead cells growing out of our bodies; they think they’re cutting off an arm or something, lol.

It’s a caveman thing. But I don’t think anyone should have a say in what you want to do with your body or hair. Chop it all off and the hell with anyone who gives you dirty looks. Plus, I’ve seen you in a million hair styles and you look cute anyway you put it. This look will be just as great. BE FREE! ^_~

Mel – most definitely. I’ve had very short hair multiple times and couldn’t express it better than liberating.
Anika – yeah, I hate all you ladies w/ that perfect weather. My hair looked amazing while I was in San Diego last year. Humidity is a game-changer.
Eli – I used to date a guy that told me the same, needless to say, when we broke up, I chopped it all off! LOL
Adri – My hair just poofs w/ the humidity, and everything turns into a chore, even washing it. I’m hair lazy.

I suppose the constructs of our biology and our social norms are big factors in why so many women stick with long hair. Dudes dig it, and it makes some women feel pretty. (You can also hide a lot of bodily imperfections with long hair.)

But from person experience, I will emphatically tell you how liberating it is to have super short hair (mine’s just beyond pixie length now). You don’t have to do anything to it to make it look good, you get more attention cos it’s not commonplace. It’s just awesome!

Yeah the long hair is working for me here in beautiful Southern California, but it was constantly sticking to my neck on the trip to Texas, so I can understand the urge!

I actually had my hair short for years and have only grown in out in the past year or so. Change can be fun and, hey, it’s hair – it grows back.

I love the hairstyle on the left! I don’t know what it is.. the hubby is totally anti me having short hair. I don’t get it! I think some guys think long hair is sexy, but I can totally see you rocking a chic short ‘do like these!

I’m actually the opposite. I like shorter hair in the winter and longer hair in the summer, but then again my hair gets crazy with the humidity so it’s easier to leave it a little wilder looking in the summer. I love that Cristina Ricci cut and if I had super straight hair, I’d do something similar. I think most people do see long hair as a sign of youth and femininity, but a great short haircut can highlight a woman’s facial features more.
