Magical Moments Monday

I’m going to forgo my typical list format today, because nothing is more magical (to me) than a Bush show. And that’s how I spent my Cinco de Mayo, so you get an entire post about it! I know you’re excited. If you are not, feel free to mosey along.

Happy Hump Day: Nick Hexum

311 has been one of my favorite bands for a very long time. In fact, I remember blasting their self-titled item in my mom’s car when I was about 14 as we pulled into a McDonald’s drive thru and the cashier complimenting me on my amazing taste in music (naturally). Ever since, they remind me of sunny days, the ocean and my youth. I especially love listening to them on gorgeous summer days with the windows down – it gives me this wonderful feeling of utter happiness and like anything is possible. I secretly desire to go on their cruise (it leaves out of Miami), but I just haven’t been able to justify the cost (yet). With that said, I’ve always had quite the thing for lead singer/guitarist, Nick Hexum. Blame it on the shimmy, the crusty 90’s bleached hair (so bad) or just his rugged good looks, either way, I was hooked.

I remember being so excited to finally see them live at Warped Tour 2001. Unfortunately, I had one of those terrible concert moments where I collapsed due to heat/claustrophobia within the first song and had to be carried out of the crowd. Thankfully, I was able to wake up and watch from afar, but I won’t lie: it’s made me want to see them the right way ever since. One day, one day. Until then, check out these lovely pictures of Mr. Hexum.

{Hunger Games Week}: Lenny Kravitz

I wanted to keep with the theme this week, but at the same time did not want to sacrifice Hump Day (I know it’s all your favorite post of the week), and then it came to me: I haven’t featured the wonderfully talented and beautiful Lenny Kravitz! Perfect. Now although a whole new generation will only know him as Cinna, Katniss’ assigned soft-spoken stylist for the games, he has always been one of my favorite musicians. I must have seen Lenny play live about 5 times during my high school and undergraduate career – I couldn’t get enough of him. I mean, who could? He is gorgeous and made some amazing music. The hubs even had one of his songs, Believe, on the list of songs he wanted to sing to me at our wedding (and when he did a test run, I cried like a baby – thank god it didn’t make the cut). I’m crossing my fingers that he does Cinna justice – he was definitely one of my favorite characters in the series.

Do you think he’ll do a good job, Tributes?

What I Wore: The Kills Concert

The Kills is one of my hubby’s favorite bands…and mine. For his birthday present, I got him tickets to see them in Paris last year during our Europe trip and they blew.us.away. So naturally when we found out they were going to play in South Florida, we had to get tickets once again. Holy hell. Why are they so amazing? Add front row status, and we almost couldn’t handle it. Alison Mosshart is electric, hot, and magnetic (Jamie, you are not far behind, my friend).

Which leads me into why these photos may be a little…well, awkward looking. They were taken outside the venue a couple of hours before doors opened and Alison was literally down the street. I just could not concentrate on my best “fashion blogger stance/face/pose” because the level of cool in the air was raised an infinite amount of notches and I just could not compete. So ridiculous giggles and weird contorted faces resulted instead. Sorry for that.

Happy Hump Day: Adam Levine

I first discovered Maroon 5 when they were featured in a popular Floridian department store’s commercial about 9 years ago or so. I loved the song (can’t even remember the single they used now), and my friends were resourceful enough to find out that this wonderful band was coming in concert. So we bought their CD and our $5 tickets (yes, really) and saw them perform in the backstage area of an amphitheater. What I remember the most is their amazing cover of Nine Inch Nails’ Closer, and apparently what I remember the least is that a very young (& adorable) Jason Mraz opened for them. Aside from their vintage musical stylings (yeah, I’m not a fan of their more recent material), what I loved the most was Mr. Adam Levine’s good looks. Sure, he’s a d-bag and the whole nine, but have you seen him work that microphone? And have you seen him topless? It almost makes me forget that their new single sounds like the season’s new gay anthem (not that there’s anything wrong with that). ;)

Magical Moments Monday

So while I was driving last week, this huge and ridiculous smile spread across my face. Why? It was an absolutely gorgeous day, I was listening to one of my favorite bands on the radio and there was little to no traffic on the expressway. I got to thinking that the most simple things in life often go overlooked. However, oftentimes these overlooked moments are what makes life so magical. We tend to focus on the negative…well, maybe I should rephrase that. I tend to focus on the negative. I like to think that I am a pretty cheerful person, but I sometimes let myself get too overwhelmed with the seemingly bad or stressful. I won’t lie, this year has been a difficult one, but in the grand scheme of things: I am such a lucky girl.
