The Art of Digi-Scrap

digiscrap

Although I don’t seem like “the type” that would be a scrapbooking fiend, I totally am. I have documented my life since middle school using scrapbooks, but hit quite the bump in the road when digital cameras became all the rage. Sure, it was easy to keep up with while I was in school and working part-time, but once I entered “the real world,” it was almost impossible to keep my albums up to date, much less find the time to make elaborate and creative pages. I am embarrassed to admit that I am basically 3 years (& then some) behind when it comes to scrapbooking – I believe my last attempt was my wedding scrapbook.

But then I discovered something amazing thanks to my sister: digital scrapbooking! A lot of you have asked me what it is and how to get started, so I’ll run over the basics in this post so you can get an idea of what to expect and see if you are interested in picking it up yourself! I don’t necessarily know if it is “easier,” but to me, it is cheaper and way more convenient since I spend the majority of my free time during the week glued to a computer screen.

Project 365

project365_uploadsize

For those of you not familiar with this photo project, Project 365 challenges participants to take a photo a day for a year. I’ve tried to start this project 3 times now and have been unsuccessful. However, with the birth of this blog and the constant nagging of my friends, I have decided to pick it up for the 4th time and restrict it to only self-portraits. I really hope I am able to complete it this time around because I’ve always marveled at completed projects on Flickr. It is amazing to see a year of someone’s life illustrated in pictures.

I am currently on day 12 and although I am only armed with a small Canon point & shoot, I am doing my best and have been consistent! Hopefully this will push me to be more creative, something I’m always craving. If you want to keep up with my Project 365, you can visit my Flickr set. However, I’ll be posting mosaics of my photos monthly here on the blog. I’m hoping by doing so, it’ll help keep me motivated!

So what do all of you think? Like the idea? Have you ever attempted your own Project 365?

ps; Happy Cinco de Mayo!! Have a margarita (or two, or three) on me tonight!

As a girl that struggles putting together appropriate and chic outfits for the office, I can truly appreciate the advice given on the WorkChic blog. Unlike other working girl blogs, they cover a variety of different budgets as well as different levels of formality from casual to professional and everything in between. My difficulties stem from having to put together business casual outfits while knowing that I will be working with children. Plus, I tend to gravitate more towards the “fun clothes” while shopping. Hopefully by putting WorkChic on my list of favorite blogs, I can be inspired to be one hot office fashionista ;) [Read more…]

The show that took New York City by storm is finally making its way to Miami. FuerzaBruta is described as being “a non-stop collision of dynamic music, visceral emotion and kinetic aerial imagery.” The audience are active members in the performance with the majority of the action taking place inches above their heads. Intrigued, right? I know I am! I hope to be able to pick up some tickets to see this infamous show at the Adrienne Arsht Center. If you want to as well, click here!

Nothing describes a more perfect weekend than going out for a photoshoot with my husband. Although photography is just his hobby, he is extremely passionate about it (as well as talented). Even though sometimes I get embarrassed when posing out in public for his shots, I always tend to love the results when I finally relax and get comfortable. This weekend we’ll be heading to the Fair for a photoshoot with a bunch of friends. Can’t wait!

Days with My Father

I was struggling with today’s post. I felt like I had nothing.
And then Augi told me to sit and read the following website: Days with My Father.

I sat down with my glass of water and definitely did not expect to feel what I did for the next 10 minutes. It was probably the strongest emotions I have felt in some time.

You see, Days with My Father chronicles Phillip Toledano‘s last few years with his father after his mother’s death through both (amazing) photos & journaling. What makes it especially heart wrenching is that his father suffers from short term memory loss, thus making a lot of life one big question mark. However, through these rough times, Toledano is able to connect with his father more than ever and gets the opportunity to really get to know him.

It is the most honest and beautiful thing I have seen in some time. At times, I could barely read because my vision was blurred with tears and seconds later, I was laughing. And the same can be said for life. All of ours. This beautifully tragic journey.

Please check this site out, but make sure you have tissues nearby.
