Comic-Con Recap: Saturday

Oh Saturday. You were batshit insane and then some. But I loved every single second of you. If I could relive any day out of the 4, it would be you. Let’s start from the beginning, shall we?

I woke up at the butt crack of dawn (5am, to be exact) in order to secure a good spot at the LOST panel. When we arrived at 6am, the lawn was already slammed. We sat around, made new friends and played some trivia with the ODI. I also took a nice cat nap on the grass. Before we knew it, we were starting to move into Hall H for the last ever LOST panel. There were no words for the excitement I felt, but maybe this video could give you an idea:

or this one:

Despite having the most obnoxious hardcore LOST fan ever (& apparently Comic-Con attendee for the past 12 years) sitting next to us, we had the best time at the panel! We had great seats considering the size of the hall and were totally pumped! Damon & Carlton started the panel off by showing clips of LOST parties (which made ours look like crap) as well as fan-made videos (hysterical). They also stated that they were placing the written ending to LOST in a locked box to reveal after the show’s ending on Conan, which they did in front of all of us. Then Q&A began. The questions were amazing (unlike all the others we had experienced) – you could tell these people were die hards just like us! All of a sudden, the next person at the microphone was JORGE GARCIA (Hurley)!!! Holy hell! The entire place went crazy. Then, mid-question, we hear a familiar menacing voice – it was Michael Emerson (Ben) walking towards Jorge! They had a little bit of banter back and forth with each other while the crowd went wild. They later brought out Richard Alpert and had a hilarious skit about his eyeliner. They then told us that they had another guest, but we had to watch a video montage for his introduction. I immediately knew who it was, no one else would require a video montage: it was Josh Holloway (Sawyer)!!!! He was absolutely hilarious – he had us all cracking up and acted like he wanted to crack the locked box that contained the series finale. He finally got Carlton to unlock it and made Michael read it outloud after he admitted that he could not read (LOL!). Michael went on to read a scene consisting of a circus tent, a fire, a  Parkman and a Sylar, ending it with: “What the fuck was that?!” I nearly died of laughter! The panel ended with a montage of all of LOST’s deaths throughout the seasons, having an especially long clip for Mr. Charlie Pace, which had me in tears (bastages!). As the lights went back up, Dominic Monaghan ran onto the stage to a standing ovation! And then the panel ended. What does that mean??? I don’t know, but I hope it means that we’ll be seeing more of the bassist from Driveshaft soon!

I literally ran out of the LOST panel in order to ensure my spot at the Hilton across the street for both Glee and Heroes panels. I was expecting to go it alone so I was extremely surprised to see my husband running behind me as I crossed the street. So sweet! I have to say the Hilton was way more efficient and did a great job moving people quickly through the line and into the ballroom. It was completely stress-free! Before we knew it, we were inside.

The Glee panel was wonderful. We got to see the full second episode, which was hysterical. Absolutely awesome. I friggin’ love this show. The cast members were really likable and they announced that they would be going on tour to promote the show. Weirdly enough, they would be touring Hot Topic stores (huh??) but unfortunately do not include Miami in their itinerary. Boo hiss. I am extremely excited for this show and by the looks of the panel, it seems like it will be a hit for Fox. Check out the following link where the cast & producers explain why they decided to just “cut to the chase” plot-wise:

Then it was time. Oh yes, it was time. Finally, I would be attending a Heroes panel. I had always heard they were the highlight of Comic-Con, so I was pumped. Plus, I’d get to see Mr. Zachary Quinto live in the flesh! Sounds fabulous to me! I thought the panel was great – we were presented with an extended trailer for Season 4, Redemption, which I thought had a lot of promise (except for the Claire girl-on-girl kiss, please tell me they did not pull that one to get a ratings boost) and were later shown an exclusive fight scene between Milo (Peter) and Ray Park’s new character, which was pretty effin’ cool. I won’t lie – I was ridiculously mesmerized by ZQ – and found his little paper airplane antics with Milo & Adrian to be completely hilarious. Check out a video of the cast explaining what the new season holds in store for their characters:

At the end of the panel, I was able to catch up with David H. Lawrence, who plays Doyle (freaky puppet dude) on Heroes. He was such a sweetheart and agreed to take a photo with me after we spoke a bit about Twitter.

And then later that night I received this lovely reply from David:

picture-12Unfortunately, I just missed meeting Zach as he was walking away in another direction when I came out of the panel. Sad face. No matter! We were off to the True Blood panel next! We got into the line about 30 minutes before the panel started, so we were pretty sure we wouldn’t be getting in. Luckily, we did! The panel had already started when we entered Ballroom 20, but we were able to secure some seats. We were kind of disappointed with the crowd at the panel – they seemed very fangirl-ish and kept spoiling plot lines for those who have yet to start reading the books! We got a little frustrated and left early to try to make it to the Archaia panel.

The hubs and I ran & ran & ran & ran. Until we finally made it to Room 5ab, where the doors were locked and security was standing guard. I batted my lashes a bit and expressed my love for Zach to security (embarrassing to the max!) and was let in! I was taken aback as to how small the room was so when we came crashing through the doors, I felt like I was a bad student coming in late for class. And Zach was the teacher. And he gave us Sylar face. Which caused me to look down and scuttle to my seat. My husband, on the other hand, waved excitedly like a doofus. Gotta love him. This panel made me want to face palm repeatedly. I have never felt more embarrassed in all my life then during that Q&A session – the fangirl volume was rolled up to 10. However, I am very excited for Zach and his new venture into comics and Archaia seems like a very talented company that will churn out some interesting stuff. If you would like to be “in the know,” follow @archaiacomics on twitter.

I, again, tried to have a moment with Zach but he disappeared into a holding room and we honestly had to get going to celebrate my birthday at the True Blood happy hour at Bondi Bar in downtown. Unfortunately, I later found out he came out of said room to do a quick meet and greet with fans only a few minutes after I left. Ultimate fail! Oh well, there is always next year, right? Right.

3767026908_e695fd3d8bThe night brought one of my best birthdays yet. Despite having a bit of a princess hissy fit, I was extremely happy. I got to spend time with Anika, who I have been friends with for years through Livejournal but had never met, as well as with my friends from California that I don’t get to see much. It was a great night. Bondi Bar hosted the True Blood party, which consisted of drinks mixed with Tru Blood, the “synthetic blood substitute” from the show. There was also a photo booth, fangs and Fang Banger t-shirts. Best part? It was all free. Loved every second of it. What to look forward to tomorrow:
