Weekend Highlights

Like I expressed last week, I could hardly contain myself with excitement for the release of Scott Pilgrim. The hubs and I planned a date night on Friday consisting of dinner at Yellow Submarine (the best food truck in South Florida) and dessert at Sweetness Bake Shop. I had featured Sweetness on this past Lovable Friday, so I thought it would be appropriate to pay it my first visit! My full review is on Yelp, but to make a long story short & sweet (appropriate), it was lovely. My favorite were the Guayabera cupcakes, which were pure heaven. In fact, I would go back just to eat those. Over and over again. However, the bakery is full of all sorts of goodies, including daily rotating cupcake flavors, which leaves me with quite a few new treats to try for a long time to come! And if that sounds like a challenge…it is! Better up my cardio! ;)

With our bellies full and happy, we made our way to the theater to catch the film. Oh em gee. The film. I can honestly that I have never had so much fun while watching a movie. At least not in a very long time. Scott Pilgrim just brings your inner child to life. You can’t help but giggle incessantly and squeal with joy while watching this movie. It was just all sorts of fantastic! The minute it was over, I just turned to my hubs and we both asked, “Can we watch it again? Like now?” I can already see it’s going to be one of my movie staples – you know, one of the ones you pop in when you are feeling a little down and glum to make your day more sunshiney? Yeah, one of those.

Saturday afternoon we drove up to Delray Beach to take part in our first Bon Festival at the gorgeous Morikami Museum. For those of you wondering, a Bon Festival is a Japanese custom to honor the departed. We were really looking forward to the event as I love learning about different cultures and their rituals, but I have to admit that I was sorely disappointed. The weather was unbearable – you could cut the humidity in the air with a knife and any time you would stop moving, you would get swarmed by gnats. Tons and tons of gnats. Aside from the weather, the festival was also slammed with people and covered in food and drink stands that were ridiculously priced for mediocre products. We tried to ignore all the negatives and enjoy our time there, but just couldn’t bear it after a couple of hours. Unfortunately, that means we missed the floating lantern ceremony along with the fireworks, but I was just so uncomfortable it wasn’t worth it to me. Better luck next time, Bon! :(

Sunday the hubs and I headed to our good friend, Tracy’s, home for a fun little photoshoot. Tracy has been working hard to shed a few pounds and has really made a transformation! In order to commemorate all her dedication, she decided she wanted a shoot. We had such a great time together coordinating some cute (as well as wacky) outfits, but had the most fun teasing her amazing hair. Can’t wait to see the results from my extremely talented hubs! Check out his work here.

Did you try the cookies at Sweetness? They have spoiled cookies from anywhere else now. It’s SO GOOD! It kills me that the shop isn’t open on Mondays. That’s usually out date night. Hopefully soon to change! NOM NOM NOM Cookies!
