Making Trek look good

picture-12

It’s Thursday, which makes it almost Friday, which means we all need a little pick-me-up to get us through the day and one step closer to the weekend. What works best for me?

Pretty boys.
And here are two just for all of you!

Chris Pine & Zachary Quinto have just begun their tour of the world to support J.J. Abrams’ newly vamped Star Trek. It premiered in Sydney, Australia just a couple of days ago and a surprise screening was held in Austin earlier this week for a few lucky fans complete with Leonard Nimoy introduction. So that means the reviews have started rolling in. What is everyone saying? That it is a-freaking-mazing, that’s what.

Now, I have to say I was initially a  hater. Well, more accurately stated, I rolled my eyes and groaned. You see, I have been subjected to Star Trek since I was a little girl by my Sci-fi loving father. Fortunately, I have forgotten any piece of Trek trivia I learned along the way because that surely would have solidified me into uber dork status. Then, I end up dating and eventually marrying another huge Trekkie. I was again subjected to Star Trek. This time in the form of the movie, Nemesis. Have any of you ever seen this pile of garbage? Oh, I did. In the theater. Those are definitely 2 hours of my life I will never get back and sorely miss.

But I am thinking differently about this film. It probably has a lot to do with the amount of confidence I have in anything J.J. Abrams stamps his name onto. He is just ridiculously amazing. That, and this singular statement from Ain’t It Cool:

I will tell you this – if you’ve ever loved anything about Star Trek, you’re gonna love this. And most likely, if you’ve never loved Star Trek, you’re about to.

So congratulations, boys. Looks like you are both about to become very very famous.

I wasn’t a really big Trek fan either but this movie is shaping up to be really good. Maybe I’ll get the dvds and start to appreciate this beloved series

I too have never been a Trekkie, not even close but it seems like they’ve done everything right with this movie to make it good for hard-core fans while still being accessible to virtual newcomers.

Personally I think the casting is awesome. I’m not too familiar with Chris Pine other than his fabulous work in The Princess Diaries 2 :P but hopefully he can do the franchise justice. (Especially now since he’s rumored to play Hal Jordan!!!)

LMAO. Nothing says acting chops like Princess Diaries.
