Please go easy on me as this is my first attempt at a mood board! I used to find them a little silly, but after searching for & plugging in some key pieces, I have to say that I am truly inspired and feel like I have more of an idea as to where I want to go with the room. So Melificent approves of this mood board craze! I would say to look out for more in the future, but after the office, we will not be adjusting anything for some time (that’s what they all say).
So for those of you that know us personally & have been to our home, you know that our “spare room/office” is kind of a disaster zone. Crap piled everywhere, gifts off our wedding registry that didn’t “fit” anywhere in our home, books galore, random toys, musical instruments, a torn up futon and the primary home of two rowdy Boston Terriers (& the reason for the torn up futon). Needless to say, it is screaming for a makeover. Bad. Want a peek? Here is the office on a very, very good day. Dark & dreary, right?
Thankfully, the hubs agreed that we needed a lighter color and we decided on the final paint sample over the weekend: Martha Stewart’s Blue Agave. I love it! We are also leaving one of our walls in chocolate brown (they are currently chocolate brown with one crimson red accent wall). I also have put my foot down on new flooring, starting with this room of course. I really love IKEA’s Markland anthracite laminate flooring. It would look amazing and make the upkeep way easier than our current ugly textured tile. Adding white baseboards would be the finishing touch and really make the room good looking.
As for decor, this room is going to be half play room & half office. We’ll be setting up our Nintendo Wii as well as my vintage original NES (yes, it is still functional & awesome) so a hip futon with bright accents (think kitsch!) will be the name of the game on one side of the room since it will probably be the new hangout when we invite our friends over for game nights. The other side will house a new & more modern desk with plenty & I mean plenty of shelving space. We currently have a bookcase that is already exploding with books and magazines, so whatever can help maximize our space & help keep us organized will be ace!
So it looks like we’ll be busy with this little project for the next few months to come – do any of you have any inspirational pictures or blogs besides my fav’s? Any ideas to share? My ears are open to any suggestions and/or advice!
