The Fall

Valentine’s Day evening, the hubs & I snuggled together on the couch to watch The Fall, a movie I had been aching to see since I saw the beautiful trailer months ago. It was almost like a Dali painting had come to life on the screen. I had heard mixed reviews, but was very pleased that the story was just as great as the visuals. Some may disagree, but I am definitely a sucker for epic fantasy storylines. The movie was based on a screenplay for the 1981 Bulgarian film, Yo Ho Ho by Valeri Petrov. It revolves around an early 20th century Hollywood stuntman that lands himself in the hospital after performing a dangerous stunt and befriends a little girl. He takes to telling her elaborate stories, which end up blurring the lines of fantasy and reality in surprising ways.

The Fall was shot over a period of 4 years in over 20 countries all financed by the director (Tarsem) himself to assure that his vision was met. I have to say, the man is a genius. There were some scenes in which Augi and I’s mouths just gaped open in awe. They were so indescribably beautiful, we couldn’t believe they were real. But they were.

So if you have a bit of a flair for the dramatic, check out this movie. You will not be disappointed.

I really enjoyed this movie. The visuals were absolutely stunning. I went in not expecting to really enjoy it, and was riveted to my seat (I have a short attention span for watching movies at home) within the first 15-20 minutes.

I would recommend this to anyone, just based on the visuals and story telling elements.

I love this movie, there’s one part that makes me want to cry every time I watch it.

    P.S. Hi!

The part where the monkey gets killed really gets to me. :(

That part is so sad! For me, it’s when Roy sees Alexandria’s head bandaged and knows it was his fault…the look on his face…completely slays me. But oh, Wallace :(

Oh man, I really wanted to see this when it was in theatres to get the full cinematic effect but never got a chance to.

Thanks for the review, you reminded me I should get around to renting it!!

Ugh, that part is so gut-wrenching too!
Rox – definitely rent it! You are going to love it :)

I love Lee Pace!!! I’m watching Pushing Daisies currently [can’t believe I didn’t watch when it was on, bummed it got canned, but it’s such a good show, probably one of my faves]. I haven’t seen The Fall, but NEED to because I’ve heard such great things & I want to see Lee in something a little left of the middle.
