Saturday was the little man’s 3rd birthday party at Cool-De-Sac! I had mentioned this locale previously, but wow! I have to sing its praises! All the kids had such a fabulous time – the center had a little of something for everyone. Granted, it is probably only for the toddler to 5 year old demographic, but that is probably one of the toughest to entertain! There were stations set up throughout to meet everyone’s interests such as a lego section, arts & crafts, dress up section (complete with on-site manicurists!), jungle gym and tumble/floor area for the little tykes. My favorite? The little kid dance party room! It consisted of a dark room, light-up dance floor (think Madonna’s Ray of Light video) and loud electronic music. I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t mind having my birthday party in that room! Oh, and did I mention that they serve beer and have great food? Yep, it’s fun for us big kids too! The little guy had a ball and the hubs got some practice being the party’s main photographer.

sunday

Sunday we spent the afternoon at a Nicaraguan festival to support Augi’s family who was hosting the event. It was ridiculously hot (I’m not sweating in the picture, I’m glistening!), but we had a good time with the fam, the food was yummy and dancing was entertaining. We spent the rest of the day gearing up for the intense week ahead of us! Can’t Sundays last just a little longer?

Have a great week, everyone!

Lovable Friday!

1. My New Macbook!

Number one this Friday has got to be my brand new, sparkling Macbook! I am sure I have the best hubby in the world – he is always thinking of me and what would make me happy. Boy, was he right on the money! I couldn’t be happier being able to blog from any corner of my house and have lightning speed Internet. I am in love. I can’t wait to further customize it and call it my own :)

momdadwedding

While visiting my Mom’s house over the weekend, I sifted through some old boxes that contained my grandmother’s photo albums and I discovered my parents’ wedding album. This was absolute gold to me. I had never seen any of these pictures since they were probably stashed away somewhere in my grandmother’s house and were the only copies. Unfortunately, my parents divorced when I was about 13 years old, but these pictures are still so meaningful and beautiful to me.

My mom always told me that I probably would have used her wedding dress had she not let her friend borrow it (she never got it back) and now I can honestly say that she was right. How beautiful did she look? My dad didn’t look too shabby himself either!

I’m so happy I was able to stumble upon these gorgeous pictures – they will definitely be something I treasure for the rest of my life. Does anyone else want to share their parents’ wedding photos?

Happy Birthday, Lucas!

There will be no hump day today because I much rather make a post about a really important little guy in my life. Today is my nephew’s 3rd birthday! I can’t even begin to describe how much this kid means to me – I never thought I could love a little person so much. I can’t imagine how it will feel when I have my own child. And I cannot believe how quickly time has gone by. I vividly remember the day my sister announced to the family that she was 3 months pregnant – and now Lucas is getting ready to start Pre-K next month!

I can’t wait to share countless memories with him as he grows up and I hope to be someone that he feels he can always count on and lean on for any kind of support. He is an amazing little guy and I know one day he will accomplish great things. I hope I can be there every step of the way to cheer him on. Tonight we’ll be celebrating with immediate family and this Saturday will be his birthday bash at Cool-de-Sac before heading to Disney for a week! He’s one lucky little dude!

I love you, Lucas. With all my heart.

Two Pretties for the Price of One

Just a little over 2 years ago, I lost my iBook forever in an accident involving my husband and a bathroom. I will not disclose these events any further on the Internet, but suffice it to say that I have been miserable technology-wise ever since. I have been using my hubby’s G5, but I have never felt like it was truly mine and I was tied down to always being in our office whenever doing anything Internet-related (AKA: basically all day/night).

Thankfully, the hubs signed up to do some sidework and surprised me with something fabulous! A 13-inch Macbook!!! I am so beyond thrilled!!!! Finally, a computer to call my own! I plan on buying a pink hard case protector from Speck as soon as I can to make it Melificent approved and can’t wait to import all my music, customize my icons & wallpaper and start bookmarking all my favorite spots on the web. It’ll also come in handy while I’m in San Diego for Comic-Con as I’ll be able to dump all my photos daily and possibly (if we have wifi at the hotel & I have any sort of free time) be able to upload and make posts while I’m there!

And while I’m speaking of photos, my hubs decided to upgrade to a Canon 5D, leaving me in possession of his “old” Canon 40D! I am so excited! I had wanted my own SLR for some time now but we couldn’t justify spending the extra money. Now I’ll be able to score some quality shots while on vacation and possibly become a second shooter for the hubs eventually. All I need is to get some lenses, but those can wait considering they can be pretty costly. If any of you have recommendations as to where I could find some for reduced prices, I’m all ears :)

So it looks like my birthday came a little early this year! Two pretties for the price of one!
Squee!

Weekend Highlights

I hope you all had an amazing Fourth of July weekend complete with food, booze, friends and family. I know we did! Having to start a new (full) week is really going to be difficult!

Friday night we held our much anticipated RockBand party, which was a hit. Despite a now broken cymbal pad on our drum kit and a few shattered beer bottles, I’d like to say it was a success! Everyone wore their best rockstar eyeliner and I spent 20 minutes teasing my hair (only for it to wimp out 10 minutes later). We have a ridiculous amount of liquor/beer left over so I do believe another party is in order. Maybe a pre-Comic-Con slumber party? ;)

Lovable Friday!

lovablefriday1Before jumping into my Friday Five, I want to wish all of you a safe & fun Fourth of July weekend! And while you are grilling those scrumptious burgers and laying by the pool, please think of me and have a frozen drink or two in my honor!

1. RockBand Party
1. RockBand Party

Tonight we are hosting a RockBand party at our pad. We are encouraging guests to dress in their best rock duds and bring their shredding skills as they live out their rockstar fantasies as only modern technology can provide. Although I am not going all out like I did for my 27th Rockstar Birthday Extravaganza, it should be fun to dress up, take some crazy ringlight photos and jam with our best friends. I will be sure to post all the pictures come Monday morning, promise. ;)

Away We Go

away-we-go

Are we fuck-up’s?

That is the question that John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph’s characters ask themselves in the film, Away We Go, as they realize that they are expecting their first child, are in their mid-30’s, not married & still searching for a place to call home. I couldn’t be happier that my friend Roxy and I were able to catch this limited release flick after missing out on the advanced screening of 500 Days of Summer Tuesday night. I completely adored this endearing movie in so many ways.

The movie revolves around the couple as they try to find “the right place” to raise their child and begin this new chapter in their lives. They visit several friends and family members along the way and learn valuable lessons about themselves as a couple, how they want to raise their children and sometimes how unfair life can be. All the characters were amazing and so very real (even Maggie Gyllenhaal’s crazy hippie persona). And I especially liked how (for once) Hollywood portrayed a couple that was truly in love and ready to battle whatever life sent their way as long as they were together (wedding ring or not).

I was really able to relate and I think other couples will too. It is both a hysterically funny and thought-provoking movie. I can’t recommend it enough. I laughed & cried until tears rolled down my face. I definitely suggest making this one a date movie as you will want to snuggle into your significant other several times throughout and it will surely give way to a lot of lovey-dovey conversations afterwards.

I will leave you with perhaps the best line from a movie I have heard in some time:
I promise to love you even if I can’t find your vagina.

Happy Hump Day: James Mcavoy

james_mcavoy_120307_01

I’ve seen James Mcavoy in several movies, but it wasn’t until I saw him in Wanted that I realized he was pretty steamy. I give credit to the shower scene that can be found under the cut (heh). Although not someone you would group under the hottest men in Hollywood, there is just something about him (oh, and that Scottish accent of his definitely doesn’t hurt). What can I say? I tend to like the underdog. Tell me if you feel the same after checking out the following pictures, ladies ;)

Evil Temptress.

I’m trying my best not to spend any more money than needed leading up to my trip to San Diego for Comic-Con, but of course, something came up. Doesn’t something always come up? It just seems that way – when you are trying to save – BOOM! – speeding ticket, accident or in my case, car repairs. My car decided to have severe brake failure 3 weeks before my trip and although I am still trying to get a good estimate, it looks like I’ll have to drop $500+ on my car sometime this week.

And then I saw these:

gojane_2060_611378559Striped Colorblock Tank Dress
$24.80

gojane_2060_553219259Chunky heel pointed toe bootie
$22.70

gojane_2061_148573467Gladiator Heels
$19.99 on sale

Wouldn’t that dress really round out the rest of my wonderful birthday girl outfits for San Diego? I really think so! And those shoes are to die for. I’ve been searching for some hot gladiator style heels or booties and these two pairs really satisfy the urge! Will I cave in? Most likely. ;)

For more of these inexpensive fashions, check out Go Jane!

Edit:

Since I wrote up this post and got everyone’s comments “peer pressuring” me (yeah right) to cave in & purchase what I wanted, I have. Heh. What can I say? I’m weak when it comes to clothes shopping. I can never have enough cute outfits! I wasn’t able to secure the dress in green (huge bummer), but I got it in red along with the black booties (I don’t wear a lot of brown so I couldn’t justify the heels) & I threw in another dress just for good measure. I told you I’m weak.
