What I Wore: Thanksgiving Dinner

It was in the high 60’s this Thanksgiving evening, so this means everyone in Miami dug out their jackets, tights and in my case, turtlenecks. It will be one of the few times we will be able to showcase any of our warmer duds so we have to take advantage! I hope you guys had a fantastic Thanksgiving with your family – I know we did! Even better was that my amazing family remembered to make 90% of the meal gluten free. So sweet & thoughtful. My heart and tummy was very happy.

I always want to include my pups in these posts, but they never cooperate (embarrassing dog mommy confession). They are so horrible on leashes, but we were actually able to snap a few with my baby G. Isn’t she just so glamorous?

Holiday Eye Makeup

Oh hai, December!!!

Although a lot of people think red lips as the main staple for holiday season makeup, I think it is equal parts smokey eye. Now, I’m no makeup artist, so I appreciated that the Studio Gear Cosmetics Holiday Smokey Eye Palette comes with play-by-play instructions on how to use the shadows to achieve the perfect look. And it’s your lucky day because I’m going to share them with you!

The first step is to use a primer on your lids. I don’t have primer (I should probably put that on my shopping list), so I just used my foundation on my lids as substitution. Next was layering their ice white shadow, Frost, on your eyelids to set. Then their charcoal shadow is to be applied lightly from crease to lash line.

What I Wore: Baby Blues

This weekend I got to hang out with friends (some I hadn’t seen in a very long time) to catch a little fire and pay our respects to our Mockingjay. Yep, we saw the newest installment of The Hunger Games and then caught up in our home with a little wine and maybe a little Sherlock. The movie was absolutely amazing – I love how true to the book they always stay and Jennifer Lawrence is a straight up goddess.

I did not go full fangirl like last time’s viewing, mainly because this blouse was too amazing to not throw on. I mean…the back? It is the perfect amount of subdued sexy. Since I was head-to-toe blue, I had to include some color to break things up. I hadn’t found an opportunity to wear this great over-sized triangle necklace until now – I love the way it gave the appearance of a faux collar. For all those local readers, definitely check out The Sale Rack in The Grove – they have some amazing finds!

Outfit Inspiration: Geeky Thanksgiving

Dress; Persunmall // Wedges; GoJane {similar} // Clutch; Primark // Necklace; The Limited

Now there is no more denying it – we are officially in holiday season! Thanksgiving is only a week away, and amidst getting those turkeys, cocktails and pies ready is the very real dilemma running through all your minds: WHAT DO I WEAR? OK, so maybe it’s not that real and not that much of a dilemma, but I know I like to eat on Thanksgiving. A lot. So that means I need to be really careful with my outfit choice. It’s got to flatter, yet conceal what is sure to be a 4 month food baby (at the very least).

For this reason, I figured I would help all you fellow geek girls with some outfit inspiration for this very tricky occasion. First, always pick a loose fitting top or dress. I personally love this tunic dress from Persunmall because not only is it comfortable, but it reminds me of my youth spent in front of a Galaga machine (I know you 80’s kids get me). Although I tend to gravitate towards dresses, a simple and chic tunic top over leggings would also work just fine! Pair it with some bright and fun accessories like these neon-colored wedges and Boston Terrier clutch (squee!) and you are ready to stuff your face in style.

ps; here are some great coupon codes for Persunmall to help ease your inevitable shopping binge: thanks10 (10% OFF $100+ Free shipping on all orders), thanks15 (15% OFF $150+ Free shipping on all orders) & thanks20 (20% OFF $200+ Free shipping on all orders).

You can all thank me later.
I accept pie. ;)

Lovable Friday!

Its been awhile, Internet.
I’m not going to lie, it’s been difficult to arrange my thoughts (& my life) since arriving back from our Euro trip, but I am trying my best (tea helps). I have so much to share, but seemingly not enough time to do it. I figured coming back with Lovable Friday would be the perfect opportunity to showcase everything that has been putting a smile on my face lately!

1. I am so lazy with my watches. You may think I don’t have any because I never have one on my wrist, but I have a pretty nice collection. They are just all out of battery. I know, I know. Easy fix. But, like I said, I can be so lazy sometimes. Thankfully, I was graced with this fun and easy Timex (the Weekender, in case you were wondering). It’s so casual and versatile (& has the option of interchangeable bands – yay!). I also love its big white face – it really adds a pop! But what I love the most is the price point – you can pick up one of these babies for $50 (additional 25% off code: SAVE25). Perfect for the upcoming gift-giving season!

2. Have I caught you guys up? I’m totally in love with Doctor Who. It was bound to happen with all my Sherlock love (same writer/creator), although it did take a little 10 in my life for it to be solidified as fangirl status. So naturally, the hubs and I HAVE to have this TARDIS Christmas ornament. What better says holiday cheer than intergalactic time travel?

3. It finally happened. The heavens opened up and gifted Miami with a Trader Joe’s. I never thought this day would come, but I was finally able to experience the joyous event that is shopping at Trader Joe’s (without being on vacation). It was every bit as amazing as I thought it would be, and I managed to ring in at well under $100. Look at me and my self control. Favorite purchases? Pumpkin butter and a bag of Inner Peas.

4. At this point, I’m pretty sure you all know that I love me some J.J. Abrams. I think he is a master at storytelling and I personally cannot wait to see what he will do with Star Wars. I nearly peed myself, however, when I saw this trailer for an upcoming project entitled, Stranger. No one knew what it was and immediately the Internet started buzzing. It was finally revealed that the trailer was for a book that J.J. devised (and Doug Dorst wrote) called, S. Thanks to the hubby, I am now the proud owner of said book and cannot wait to dive into it. So far, it is classic Abrams, with all sorts of physical elements (literally, crap falls out of the book) and plenty of mystery.

5. Guys, it’s time to face the music. The holidays are here. I know for some of you, this is a happy statement, but for others (like me), it can be stressful. One female first world struggle is picking the right holiday lip color. So many shades of red, not enough time. Well, I’m here to make it easy for you. BA Star offers great and long-lasting makeup products (they are the #1 best seller for cheerleaders, dancers and competitors so you know this stuff is good) and I have fallen in love with their aptly named, Holiday Red lip pencil. It goes on so smooth, has full coverage and manages to stay in tact despite my animalistic eating rituals (seriously, its not pretty). Enjoy a 50% off promo code on me while you are at it: BBLIPS.

I’m Back // Liebster Blog Award

Hi everyone!!! I’m back from our adventures in the UK/Ireland and although I am semi-depressed to be back home and faced with reality, I am glad to be back to my regular routine, which includes blogging! Hope you didn’t miss me too much!

The best thing to get home to is a sweet and flattering award from a fellow blogger. I received the Liebster Blog Award from OmniVogue earlier today and it kind of made my day. According to those nominated, it is an award given to bloggers by other bloggers because of their blogging coolness. Well, thank you!

Here are the questions I was asked to answer:

A Miami Girl Packs For the UK

I’m headed on a jet plane in a few to my favorite city in the world, London, but I wanted to share something with you all before I go! Although I am new to the whole vlogging world, I’m having a lot of fun putting these together. I hope you all enjoy a little how-to for those of us tropical girls that have a harder time packing for colder weather.

As always, special shout out to my amazing husband who is able to create these mini video masterpieces. See you all on the flip side!

Guest Bloggers Wanted!

Hi readers! First off, happy October!!! Although I am a water baby & love me some sun, I am a big fan of the Fall months. Although we don’t really feel any different down here in Miami, there is something special floating around the air that makes me smile. Something else that is making me smile this month is our 2nd European vacation! We leave to visit London, Glasgow & Dublin (& surrounding areas) at the end of the month and I was looking for some lovely people to guest blog in my absence (10/21-11/5).

If you are interested, you can email me at meli@melificent.com or hit me up on any of my social media platforms.

Hope to get some willing participants!

What I Wore: Anglophile

For those of you that don’t know me, I am an Anglophile. What’s that you say? Well, someone that is obsessed with British culture! I can’t really pinpoint when I became enamored with the English, but I know it has not let up. In fact, we are visiting London for a second time next month (the first was so mind blowing, I cried upon arrival) and have been religiously watching BBC shows for months now (Sherlock is my new favorite). That’s why I had to pick up this adorable skirt. Royals, phone booths and palace guards? YES.

What I Wore: Geometric Goodies

Geometric prints are really huge this fall as accents on everything possible, so naturally I had to add a piece to my wardrobe. I loved this warm tee because it is so comfy and can go with anything. Although it’s a basic, the print makes it something a little more special. I wore it for a day of pampering at the salon to slightly correct my ombre and then took the look with me to a food truck rally to celebrate Mexican Independence Day. Naturally, the only thing I could eat were macarons. The life of a glutard…. ::sigh::
