What I Wore: Summer Casual

We had big plans for Saturday. After too many back-to-back vacations and just general bad eating, the hubs and I are on a strict calorie-counting regime, and we really want to incorporate more exercise and physical activities into our daily routine (we were getting way too comfortable being couch potatoes). This is why we were really excited to pull our bikes out of the garage and start riding again. Unfortunately, Miami’s fickle weather did not work in our favor. Mid-way through our ride, it began to torrentially downpour. We had to pedal to the metal all the way back home, but at least we got a lot of shrieks and laughter in. That’s gotta count for something right?

Birthday Week To Remember

First off, I missed you all terribly. I realized that my heart literally hurts when I am not blogging – it is such a sweet stress reliever (and so much fun). Unfortunately, as most of you know by now that are involved in my day-to-day, I am back on the study train. My second certification exam is at the end of September, and it must be passed. But no fear! I still intend to blog regularly – you just may see gaps here and there. I am hoping I can reward myself on the weekends by making a post or two in between studying sessions.

With that said, it has been awhile since I have properly updated you all on fun events in my life (that do not revolve around an outfit post) – although I was wearing a pretty superb one to this one that should have been documented. It seems pretty tedious to have to reiterate my love of the band, Bush, on this blog, so if you are not aware of the love affair you can fill yourself in here, here and even here.

Nearly a couple of weeks ago, I went on yet another Bushtastic adventure with some of my girlfriends to Tampa. I saw it as a birthday extension (I can never have too many of those), and a much needed escape from reality. I had found out a few days earlier that Bush would be playing a Shush show the afternoon of their official show, which is a short, bare and acoustic set, usually reserved for radio appearances and the like. Needless to say, after seeing so many other fans’ footage from these events, I wanted in and the only way in, was unfortunately to win. Well, boo hiss to that. A quick fast forward, and the lovely guitarist from the band (and superior human), Chris Traynor, caught wind that I wanted to go and granted me and my friends access. I was in disbelief. Who the hell does that for their fans? Oh yeah, this band.

Withdrawals

Coming down from this cloud has proven to be pretty difficult.
Give me a little time to recuperate and Melificent will be back as usual!

Rock ‘n Roll Road Trip

Don’t miss me too much!
I’ll be continuing the birthday celebrations for the next two days in Tampa with some pretty awesome ladies. We’ll be seeing Bush live (twice in one day – who has the opportunity to do that) and then visiting Busch Gardens! I’m really excited for a girlie road trip, and even more excited to finally meet the lovely blogger, Terri, of Delightfully Darling after years of online friendship.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Happy Hump Day: Nathan Adrian

So who doesn’t get excited for not only the astonishing athleticism, picture perfect finishes, and swelling moments of pride of the Summer Olympics, but also for the eye candy?!? Every hot blooded female knows exactly where it’s at too: swimming. These dudes are in extraordinary shape, making the sport pretty easy on the eyes, but it also helps that it is usually one of the most exhilarating to watch – namely the mens relay. And although the US were striped of the gold during the final seconds by France, our boys took it in stride. Namely, Nathan Adrian, the 23 year old, 6’6″ hunky Berkeley grad.

Put on your cougar hat and proceed with caution.

What I Wore: Birthday Girl!

After a fun trip to the Keys with some of my closest friends, I closed my birthday weekend with a family get together at my sister’s house. We had a great time laughing, reminiscing and comparing sibling similarities. I wanted to be comfortable, but also play the role of the birthday girl. I thought it was the perfect opportunity to pull out my new H&M outfit that I picked up while in California a couple of weeks back. I can’t tell you how in love I am with it and I can’t wait to remix the separate pieces. Apparently polka dots were a theme this year. ;)

What I Wore: Birthday Date

Even though it seems like the hubs and I would spend a ridiculous amount of time together, we don’t really get a chance to be alone and romantic too much. Life tends to get in the way, like it often does, and before we know it, we have not gone on a date in months. I think dates are a super important part of relationships that help keep them fresh and fun, so I was very happy when the hubs suggested we have a romantic dinner date for my birthday this past weekend.

We ate at Grazianos, a really delicious Argentinian steak house (we are carnivores), where we had good wine, good conversation, and snuck in some sweet hand holding and flirtatious looks. It was followed by seeing Wes Anderson’s latest flick, Moonrise Kingdom, which was hands down adorable and the perfect choice for the evening (he had deemed Batman wasn’t romantic enough). And it was lovely. I couldn’t imagine starting my birthday weekend off better.

I am such a lucky girl.

Lovable Friday!

1. Stitch iPhone Case

I had a thing for Stitch for a very long time (OK, I still do). My 21st family birthday cake had his face on it (my friends got me one with Elijah Wood’s face on it – ha), and I basically had every single piece of Stitch-related paraphernalia available. People even state that my dogs are very Stitch-like (they are), so naturally I NEED THIS CASE. Did I make myself clear?

thirty one.

I was inspired by the lovely Mandy of Harper’s Happenings and her post on turning 31 to write my own. As you all know, I’ve had a hard time coming to terms with hitting my 30’s, but I feel like this year I have learned a lot about myself and I like the direction I am heading. Most of all, turning 30 has made me realize that there is no need for me to try to be anyone else but myself. This is me, and I will throw it out there on a plate for you to either take or leave. I do not have to change for anyone, for anything or because I am a certain age, in a certain profession or living in a certain city.

Happy Hump Day: Alex Pettyfer

You guys. I saw Magic Mike a couple of weeks ago and I have to admit: I wasn’t all that floored with Channing Tatum. I could honestly do without him. Who really caught my attention? Alex Pettyfer. I had always heard his name thrown around, but I really didn’t know what he looked like. I guess I imagined a little blonde teeny bopper. Not this. And then I found out he was British. Well, that’s entirely not fair. Good job on this one, higher ups. I approve.
