{30 Days of Fashion}: Day 18

January 18th, 2011:

Top; Cynthia Rowley found at Marshall’s
Skinny jeans; Target
Brown heels; DSW
Earrings; gifted

I think I grow a new found appreciation for Marshall’s every time I visit. They are really getting some top quality stuff and in turn, so is my closet. I nearly jumped out of my skin when I saw this gorgeous nude tunic top from Cynthia Rowley hanging off their racks. I can’t tell you how comfortable and cool it is, especially when paired with some skinny jeans like I did yesterday! It’s the perfect casual office outfit, and it boosted my confidence when I had to get my blood work done. Thanks to this cute top (and a butterfly needle), my experience went way smoother than I thought!

Unfortunately, today was another rough day for me emotionally in the office, and I succumbed to yet another bout of retail therapy. I’m not proud of my lack of self control, but I am of my amazing purchases! I scored both a rockin’ orange dress from Max Studio and a beautiful bright blue Cynthia Rowley number for less than $50! I have a couple of events coming up, so I can’t wait to put them to good use :)

Happy Hump Day: Hugh Dancy

OK, how in heavens did I miss such a lovely Brit? My radar must be malfunctioning. Even worse, he was in a bunch of movies I have watched and loved like Black Hawk Down, Ella Enchanted (you shut your face), and Confessions of a Shopaholic (OK, so I didn’t love that one, or like it). However, all it took was a quick little glimpse on Sunday night while he was giving his wife, Claire Danes, a kiss as she won a Golden Globe for her work on Temple Grandin for me to notice. So much so, that I rewound it back to his face just to tell my hubs how adorable he was (my poor, poor husband). Upon further research, it came as no surprise that he was a model as well as an actor, most recently for Gap.

Some girls just get all the luck. First Claire Danes had Jordan Catalano, and now this? Totally unfair.

Feast your eyes on some proper British eye candy, readers, and then get back to me in the comments. ;)

Contact Form Mishap

Hi everyone!

It was brought to my attention today that the contact form here on the blog is not working. So if you have been trying to contact me in that manner, I have not received any of your messages. We are going to get that back up and running ASAP, but until then, feel free to contact me at meli@melificent.com.

Sorry!

EDIT; The problem has been fixed! Contact form is up and running!

{30 Days of Fashion}: Day 17

January 17th, 2011:

Tank; Gap body
Long sleeve tee; Ross
LOST tee; TeeFury
Skinny jeans; Forever 21
Boots; GoJane

A day off. Unfortunately, not to have a whole lot of fun, but rather to do a bunch of errands. And to top it off, it was pouring rain outside. So much so, that a tornado warning was put in effect for all of South Florida. And a tornado warning is not complete without a full-on soaking, which happened when I went to do groceries. Nothing like having to run like the wind under a torrential downpour while pushing a shopping cart full of groceries. You should try it, really.

Anyways, how much do I love TeeFury and their fandom tees! If you are not familiar with the site, a new tee is available daily, but only for 24 hours. These tees are only $9, and I have to say that they are one of the best fitting shirts I have ever bought. Back in the days when LOST was on the air (moment of silence), every Tuesday the site featured a new LOST themed tee. A couple of weeks ago, the site decided to reminisce and featured this great tee that I am wearing on a Tuesday! There’s nothing wrong with living in the past, right? Of course not! ;)

Tamiami Truckers Food Court

Some of Miami’s best food trucks decided to pay West Kendall a visit once more this past Friday as part of the now weekly, Tamiami Trucks Food Court. As you all know, I attended the event last week, but I forgot to bring my trusty camera (blasphemy). This time, I made sure it was packed in my purse before heading out the door so I could share the yums with all of you out there in the blogosphere.

There weren’t quite as many trucks this time around, but felt like there were double the attendees! I was happy to see that friends had carpooled from Broward in order to attend the event, as our poor little West Kendall hood usually doesn’t get the attention it really should (I happen to love my neighborhood). Due to this, the lines were pretty epic. It wasn’t out of the realm of possibilities to have to wait an hour plus to get a burger, but in my case, it was well worth it.

My first stop was Dos Lokos. My hubs had tried them last week and could not stop raving for days. The fact that their Super Loko burger boasted a fried egg (amongst other goodies) sealed the deal. This burger was going in my belly. And that was a fact. After quite the hellacious line (I guess news travels fast), I finally got my dirty paws on my (altered) Super Loko. It was all sorts of wonderful. The multiple patties, the crumbled chips, that delicious fried egg. It was heaven. I’m currently stalking them on Twitter because I doubt I’ll have the willpower to wait for these weekly events. I bow down to you, Dos Lokos!

{30 Days of Fashion}: Day 16

January 16th, 2011:

Top; Harajuku Lovers found at Loehmann’s
Skinny jeans; Target
Faux converse; Gap
Watch; Crow
Polish; Essie’s Mint Candy Apple
Shades; Forever 21

Gwen Stefani is my idol. I would really love to be her when I grow up, Gavin Rossdale included. Anywho, I basically love anything she creates, including her fashion lines: L.A.M.B. and Harajuku Lovers. Luckily, I can score both at my nearby Nordstrom Rack and Loehmann’s for half the price, which makes both my heart and wallet happy. Sweet. I loved everything about this top, from it’s ghetto 80’s feel to the cut. It had to be mine! I immediately thought it would look great paired with skinny jeans, and whaddayaknow – it did!

I rocked this outfit to a great late brunch at POC in Coral Gables with friends and then shortly after a food-induced coma, to the Sports Grill to catch up with another pair of good friends. It was a nice way to spend a Sunday, and even better since I knew Monday was a holiday! I hope you all have a great day, whether you off or not. Thanks, MLK!

Golden Globes Fashion Recap

I am embarrassed to say that I forgot that the Golden Globes were yesterday! I woke up from a very much needed nap at 6pm, and freaked out when I saw my Twitter stream! The red carpet was in full effect and I was clueless – thankfully, my hubs got on it and hit the record button on our DVR. Crisis averted.

I have to admit that I wasn’t impressed with this year’s dresses. They just generally fell flat for me. But there were a choice few that really peaked my interest. In regards to the awards, I am so proud of David Fincher, Trent Reznor and the rest of the cast and crew of The Social Network. So very well deserved. I also teared up for Chris Colfer, of Glee, who won best supporting actor in a series, especially after he dedicated the award to the anti-bullying movement. Class act, that one.

But back to the gowns! Wondering who made my best and worst list? Well, wonder no longer…here it is!

Glee’s Dianna Agron, Easy A’s Emma Stone, Black Swan’s Natalie Portman, Temple Grandin’s Claire Danes, Mad Men’s January Jones, Black Swan’s Mila Kunis and Covert Affair’s Piper Perabo all made my best of list.

Halle Berry, Scarlett Johansson, Tron’s Olivia Wilde, Blue Valentine’s Michelle Williams and The King’s Speech’s Helena Bonham Carter, unfortunately did not.

I wish I could have gone into more detail as to why I loved and hated each outfit, but I sat back and enjoyed the show with no laptop in hand (only wine), so before I knew it, it was past my bedtime. I’d love to discuss with all of you in comments though – do you all agree, disagree or have more gowns to add to either list? Let me know!

{30 Days of Fashion}: Day 15

January 15th, 2011:

Sports bra; ??
Loose-fitting tee; Gap
Yoga pants; Marshalls
Sneakers; Target

OK, so…it was important for me to keep with the 30 days no matter what. Even if I didn’t look my absolute most fashionable. Even if I had a schlubby day. And today was one of those days. I started the day with a spinning class, and then went on to do 239482 errands, clean the house and do laundry. How glamorous, right? Well, since it was such a highly domestic day, I didn’t exactly change into something more fashion forward, so excuse me this one time. At least I was able to knock myself out (although not naturally), and get a full night’s rest after what seemed like a week of anxiety-driven insomnia. Hooray for the little things in life!

{30 Days of Fashion}: Day 14

January 14th, 2011:

Tank; Gap body
Long sleeve light pink tee; Forever 21
Long sleeve hot pink; Old Navy
Bell bottom jeans; Free People found at Marshall’s
Hot pink chucks; Urban Outfitters
Scarf; stolen from hubs
Nerdy specs; Urban Outfitters online

Nothing like a casual Friday. Another restless night called for something comfortable, as I could barely bring myself out from under the covers, much less rock a pair of heels. Thankfully, I had a pretty slow day at work so I was able to just throw on a pair of my most favorite jeans in the world, a few layering tees and some chucks. After lunch, I had to shimmy my way over to my first physical in over 10 years, which was both scary and satisfying. We’ll see how I feel when I have to come in for bloodwork tomorrow (needles are the devil).

I though the perfect accessory for my outfit was a pair of nerdy specs, even though I don’t need to wear glasses. I can’t help that I think they are so adorable. I actually have about 3 pairs of “for looks only” glasses, which I get mocked for a lot, but I think they really add a fun vibe. Go ahead, hate my 20/20 vision. ;)

Lovable Friday

1. Chocolate Spoons

I love experimenting with desserts. They are usually a lot less difficult to make than main entrees and are just way more fun. Wouldn’t you agree? Definitely the case when it comes to these too-cute chocolate party spoons. They really make an impression with their bright colors and decorative accents, but seem so easy to make! I’m going to have a go at them for our Valentine’s Day celebration (I’m planning the whole thing this year – pressure!), and will definitely report back with a play-by-play. Until then, check out the Delicious Delicious Delicious blog’s short and sweet tutorial!
