{30 Days of Fashion}: Day 2

January 2, 2011

Tank; Old Navy
Jeans; Gap Curvy
Watch; Crow
Guitar Pick earrings; gifted
Flippy floppies; Old Navy

Having a productive Sunday after a pretty lazy first day of the year. We had to take my car in for service after it pooped out New Year’s Eve, started cleaning out our closets and finally got around to unpacking those final boxes (7 months after our official move). I have a very long list of to do’s for the house this year and am determined to get them all done by the end of 2011! For these reasons, I had to dress as comfy as I could. I can’t recommend Gap’s Curvy line any more for fellow large hipped ladies. They are wonderful! I always have a very hard time finding a pair of jeans to fit my body type since I have a very narrow waist, but wide hips and thick legs. These jeans always fit me like a dream come true. Plus, they are usually on sale – bonus!

ps; isn’t my house cute? I’m still so in love with it.

A very happy new year to all of you out there in the blogosphere!
I hope it was full of dancing, sparkles, champagne, laughter and midnight kisses leaving you with hope of a brighter 365…

With that said, Melificent will have some new features in the new year & I wanted to share them with you all today!

{After being inspired by Closet Confections’ 30 for 30, I will be doing my own amended version}
Basically, I will be posting a daily picture of myself in an outfit for the entire month of January. I took a poll on my FB fan page last month asking readers if they would like this kind of format & I got a lot of positive feedback. I was really flattered & hope I can live up to all your expectations for the next 30 days. That’s right, I start today!

{I will have a new monthly feature: Melificent’s Mighty Maven of the Month}
Similar vibe to my very popular hump day posts, but minus the hump. These are girls that I find to be intelligent, cool and inspiring amongst other things. Girls I’d like to share an ice cream cone or beer with (depending on the chick); girls I’d like to be when I grow up. This was another reader suggestion that I thought would be a great addition! We can’t give the boys all the attention, right?

That’s where the blog is at right now, but I hope to be sharing even more exciting new features with you all as the new year  progresses. I’m feeling pretty positive about 2011, are you?

ps; Feel free to leave comments with any additional recommendations. I’m always looking for new ideas!

Wishes for 2011

Before listing my New Years wishes for the upcoming year, I’d like to revisit last year’s list because upon reading it last night, I realized that for once in history, almost all my wishes came true. Again, reasons I prefer to say wishes rather than resolutions. They represent something positive, something magical, rather than something that is seen more as a chore than a goal.

1. Continue “working on my fitness.” Do not get lazy. Both the hubs and I worked steadily with our personal trainer until last month, when we decided to terminate mainly due to finances. We have still remained very active and hope to continue to do so.
2. Own a house. Love it. Make it yours. We closed on our very first home in March of 2010.
3. Find something that makes you happy. This is the only wish that I continue to search for, but as I’ve said, I believe it will finally come true in 2011.
4. Raise more money for Autism Speaks than in 2008. I was able to raise over $1000 dollars for the cause and hope to do so again in 2011.
5. Make this blog a priority. Strive to be creative, inspiring & interesting. This blog has been my driving force in 2010, it’s what keeps me going in my darkest hours. And I only seeing it continue to grow and mature into something so much more in the next year.
6. Learn more recipes. I have been actively trying to cook and learn about the kitchen weekly. The new Cooking Channel has really helped inspire me.
7. Just learn more. Period. Although I feel as if I am losing more and more brain power as the years go by, I can also say I learn something new every day. Minor things, silly things, but every day is a new chance to grow.
8. Love without boundaries. I have practiced this every day and the results have been astonishing. My life is filled with so much love.
9. See Muse live. I saw Muse in Anaheim, CA in September. I don’t think I’ve ever been the same.
10. Have more adventures: big or small. 2010 was the year of the adventure.
11. Continue making memories worth remembering for a lifetime. I will remember so many beautiful moments in 2010, and hope to make just as many more in 2011.
12. Visit The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I didn’t just visit it once, but twice! And the first time was grand opening day (see? MOMENTS and ADVENTURES).

But all this is old news, let’s get to the good stuff.
My wishes for the new year, for the much anticipated 2011:

A Melificent 2010: Highlight Reel

Although 2010 was a very difficult year for many, I can say that I was fortunate enough to have a really amazing year. Like I’ve said in previous posts, it has felt like each year continuously gets better and better for the hubs and I. This year brought a lot of amazing experiences and momentous occasions, but I cannot lie. It also brought me a lot of inner turmoil and strife as I feel as if I am still trying to figure out what I want to be. This came as a jolt to my reality as I have always known what I’ve wanted to do since I was a teen. All of a sudden to be questioning what I have been doing, been building for myself for the past decade or so is a pretty scary thing. However, I believe 2011 will be my answer. Plus, according to novelist, George Eliot, it is never too late to become the person you might have been.

So without further ado, here was my most magical, Melificent 2010 thanks to Pummelvision:

Life is beautiful.

Happy Hump Day: Joel McHale

Here we go readers – it’s the last hump day of 2010! I figured since it was such a momentous occasion, I should ask you all who you thought I should feature. I took to my Facebook fan page and put the question out there. Seems like you girls really dig funny because Mr. Joel McHale got the most votes! Joel has been the host of the ridiculously hilarious The Soup on E! since 2004 and stars as Jeff Winger on NBC’s Community, which really catapulted his celebrity. Some fun trivia? Joel and his brothers were born in Rome, as their father was a professor at a local American university and Joel played football for 2 years while in college (definitely can’t imagine that).

Joel always brings me good memories, mainly because it brings me back to the night before my wedding when my friend, Ang, and I had quite an adventure at a local Subway before heading back to the hotel to watch The Soup. I hadn’t laughed that hard in ages, and I definitely needed it after all the wedding planning stress.

So thanks for the eternal chuckles, Joel! This and more is what earned you the final hump of 2010!
Here to many more eligible hotties in the new year!

Can I get an amen?

Best of 2010

It’s hard to believe that the year is almost over. It’s almost time to say goodbye to 2010 and welcome 2011 with open arms and a fresh outlook. But before we light the sparklers, fill the champagne glasses and partake in some midnight kisses, let’s look back at the best of 2010, through the eyes of Melificent:

Favorite movie:

Inception

Everything was so absolutely right about this movie. I loved the concept, the visuals, the actors. But you can’t expect anything less coming from director, Christopher Nolan.

Holiday Hangover

I tell myself time and time again that I need to stop eating like such a fiend, but I just continue to do it.

This time I’m suffering pretty bad. Looks like I am due for one serious detox, and if I plan on really ringing the new year in right, I better steer clear of all heavy food and alcohol leading up to Friday night! Wish me luck in recovering & the blog will be back in business tomorrow!

Hope all of you had an amazing holiday weekend with those you love the most.
Despite all my culinary indulgences, I really had an amazing time with friends and family.

Favorite gift?

My Sunbeam cupcake maker!!!

(Merry) Lovable Friday!

Being that today is Christmas Eve (or Noche Buena for all my Latin readers), I figured I would keep with the holiday theme and show you some of my most favorite festive items I’ve stumbled on this week!

1. Candy Cane Cookies

Ah, baking. Relaxing (sometimes) and therapeutic (sometimes). While asking you all for your favorite holiday recipes last week as part of the Be My Clementine giveaway, my eyes landed on the seemingly delicious Candy Cane Cookies, submitted by my good friend, Camero (who has a wonderful food blog you should all check out). I decided these were the ones I was going to tackle. Despite some hang-up’s (didn’t form them into candy canes), they were a huge success. In fact, my boss came to my office to specifically ask me if there were any more left several days later (there definitely were not). I especially love how festive they look and the contrast created by the peppermint flavor.
