Hiatus

Melificent will be going on a brief hiatus, but we will be back – promise!

Lots of things are going on in my world right now, and unfortunately, the blog is going to have to take a backseat as I shift some priorities around. But do not fret! As the very wise Mrs. Potts once said:

“It’ll turn out all right in the end. You’ll see.

Weekend Highlights: Halloween Edition!

This weekend was so much fun I could hardly stand it, but I didn’t expect anything less. It is no secret that I have a pretty serious love affair with Halloween and really enjoy dolling up for the festivities. Saturday night we had the annual AgencyNet Halloween party in their new digs. I finally unveiled my secret costume that I had been concealing for several months now – Maleficent! Thanks to the Academy of Glam, I was able to really perfect the look with some kick ass makeup. All other pieces were picked up randomly through Amazon stores and American Apparel. I’m really happy with the way the costume turned out and it was a little too fun to be evil for a night. Although, I have to admit that perfecting a villainous bitch face was tough!

Lovable Friday

1. DIY Colored Mason Jars

It’s no secret: I love easy DIY projects! Although I don’t consider myself to be very crafty, I can do spray painting without any difficulties. Promise. And this simple DIY project consisting of a can of spray paint and a pack of mason jars really does it for me. Just think of these pretties adorning a table at an event or even as a centerpiece for a shower – they would be so perfect! And the best part is that they would take minimal time and effort, as well as be gentle on your wallet. I, for one, can’t wait to give these babies a test run. If you are also interested, you can pick up large packs of mason jars at Big Lots for under $15! Thank me later ;)

{SqueeWorthy}: Halloween Weddings

Weddings, weddings, weddings. Almost 3 years after my own, I still absolutely adore them. Attending them, planning them, reading about them, you name it! And one particular kind of wedding has always intrigued me: the Halloween wedding. Two of my favorite things combined? Yes please! Unfortunately, my family would have probably had my head on a stake if I had decided to have a Halloween wedding of my own (my mom has always harbored an intense dislike of the holiday), so I have to be satisfied with just oogling others’ fabulously spooky wedding days.

I think it’s a talent to be able to have a tasteful yet fun Halloween themed wedding because it’s so easy to go over-the-top and get tacky. That’s why I’m in awe of people that do it right, and these people…they did it right. All brides-to-be (Halloween or not), take note:

Happy Hump Day: Johnny Depp

When thinking who I should feature for Halloween week’s hump day, there was no one else that would fit the bill better than Johnny Depp. After all, he’s basically in all my favorite spooky movies: Sleepy Hollow, Sweeney Todd, Edward Scissorhands, the list goes on and on. And isn’t he just the most gorgeous man on the planet? And so humble! Did you guys hear the story where he visited a young girl at school dressed as Jack Sparrow after she wrote him a letter asking for his help to start a mutiny against school teachers? Who does that? He’s amazing. Enjoy the picspam and get your freak on (haha), ladies (& boys)!

Spooky Sounds

Via: weheartit.com

With Halloween this weekend, I’m sure there are many people putting together the final touches for their parties. And it’s not a spooky party without equally spooky tunes! I know putting together the perfect party playlist can be difficult, especially when you are limited with a theme, but luckily, I have a couple new & fun tracks to share that will work spook-tacularly (see what I did there?).

Lucy Schwartz – Graveyard (mp3 widget code)

Lucy’s new album, Life in Letters, is one of iTunes top 200 pop albums so you should get to know her sooner than later! Check out her hot video for Graveyard here and if you like what you hear, download her album.

The Chapin Sisters – Palm Tree (mp3)

The sister duo is taking America by storm, promoting their new album, Two. They are both headlining their own tour, as well as opening for the always adorable She & Him. Check them out on their official site!

Weekend Highlights

Saturday we spent the night celebrating my glorious hubby’s birthday party with our closest friends at home. I think it was a complete success and everyone seemed to have a very good time. A very good time. Such a good time, in fact, that I spent the majority of my Sunday morning cleaning up after the mess. But it was completely worth it. We got to spend time with some of our favorite people and there really is nothing better than seeing the love of your life enjoying his special day. I love you honeycakes and hope this year is even better than the last! <3

Because of the festivities, I couldn’t attend the Vampire Diaries Tour in South Miami with Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley, but a couple of my buddies did and shared their experiences! You can read all about them here and here. Sounds like it was a great time filled with many a smoldering look and flirtatious winks.

And next weekend brings even more fun: it’s Halloween!!!!
I have an elaborate costume party to attend on Saturday night and then plan on going trick or treating with my nephew Sunday. What plans do you guys have for the holiday?

Lovable Friday: Augi Edition

I decided to forgo the usual Lovable Friday lineup to feature my hubs. His birthday is Sunday and I wanted to show him a little blog love. After all, who doesn’t appreciate a little Internet lovin’?

At this point, I can’t imagine my life without one Agustin Sanchez. We have been together as a unit for 9 years, and married for almost 3. We are almost too alike – in fact, people used to tell me our relationship wouldn’t work out because we were basically the same person. Well, we sure did prove them wrong. But somehow, despite having so much in common, we are still two very distinct people. I’m all about unicorns, rainbows and glitter – he is all about cynicism, guitars and brooding. And it works. Well.

Blog About My Dog(s)

The lovely Lori Todd made a tweet yesterday suggesting that all dog lovers out in the Twitterverse blog about their 4-legged-ones today and I just couldn’t resist. I mean, look at my cute little rascals up there. They are just too adorable!

We get a lot of questions regarding our dogs so I thought I would share a little about them here on the blog. They are both pure bred Boston Terriers. If I could recommend any breed to future dog owners, I would recommend Bostons and not just because I have such a wonderful pair. They are just so energetic, funny and intelligent. Their personalities are so clearly defined – I think so much more than other breeds. They are also so loving and friendly. Definitely great family pets and the perfect size for apartment living – which was our initial concern. I can honestly say that they make me laugh every day.

Happy Hump Day: Will Arnett

Who here misses the funniest show ever aired on television, Arrested Development? I know I do! And that is mainly due to some amazing writers and equally fabulous characters played by some talented actors. Cue Mr. Will Arnett. Who can forget his ridiculously awesome magic routine to the sweet tunes of Europe, c’mon, don’t deny it – you remember! Aside from the lovable Gob of TV past, Arnett is now starring in the new Fox series, Running Wilde, alongside Kerri Russell. For all those Wilde fans, make sure to spread the word, rumor has it that it may get canned! Having another axe sling down on Arnett and make him disappear from our televisions again would really be a bummer. But, let’s practice the power of positive thinking and send Will some good vibes as we oogle some of his best photos. Deal? Deal!
