I’ve Been Missing

Hi lovely readers!

I don’t want you to think that I’ve abandoned you all. It’s just the holidays, so both my professional and personal life are flaring up at the same time, which makes it difficult to stay on track with extracurriculars (I’m sorry, that means you blog). But I’ll be posting regularly soon enough, and even better, I will have a new project to share with you all at the start of the new year (spoiler alert: squee!). I’m also hosting 2 fun themed parties over the next few weeks, so I can’t wait to share those with you as well.

2014 is looking so bright, I almost can’t stand to look!

I’m Back // Liebster Blog Award

Hi everyone!!! I’m back from our adventures in the UK/Ireland and although I am semi-depressed to be back home and faced with reality, I am glad to be back to my regular routine, which includes blogging! Hope you didn’t miss me too much!

The best thing to get home to is a sweet and flattering award from a fellow blogger. I received the Liebster Blog Award from OmniVogue earlier today and it kind of made my day. According to those nominated, it is an award given to bloggers by other bloggers because of their blogging coolness. Well, thank you!

Here are the questions I was asked to answer:

What I Wore: Brooklyn Bridge

Sunday was our last full day in NYC. Although it made us a little sad, we realized we had to make the best of it! We had brunch in Brooklyn at Heath Ledger’s restaurant, Five Leaves (yum!), visited the 9/11 memorial (so heavy & moving) and had dinner at the amazingly glutard-loving, Risotteria. I also got to walk the Brooklyn Bridge for the first time ever. What a view! It’s always really hard to say goodbye to this city, and this time was not any different. Miss you, NYC!

What I Wore: Brooklyn Hipster

Day two brought us to the hipster-laden Brooklyn. We visited the Brooklyn Flea, Adam Yauch Park and some sweet neighborhood views. Being in the hipster capital of the world, I figured I had to play the part outfit-wise. I thought I did a good job until I noticed that my bright colors totally stuck out like a sore thumb. Damn Brooklyn, I’m too colorful for you.

What I Wore: Travel Duds

I’ve decided that all clothes from Conversation Pieces are the perfect travel duds. They are soft, easy to pack and basically go with everything! This past weekend I visited New York City with my girlfriends and my wardrobe mainly consisted of pieces from the site. I can’t sing their praises enough. Both the hubs and I are headed to Europe next month and I plan on going straight to Conversation Pieces to stock up on all my last minute cold weather items.

Outfits aside, I totally need to gush about NYC and its gluten free options! I never struggled once with meals – everyone was so accommodating and understanding. I figured I would share where I ate each day so that any of my fellow glutards could follow in my footsteps if they visited the Big Apple themselves. On our first day, I had a great dinner at Bistango including gluten free garlic bread (!!!), delicious wine options and seafood pasta. My tummy was so happy. So happy in fact, that the meal carried me through the rest of the evening (complete with 90’s dance party). Success!

Being Melificent: Love

Let me preface this by saying that I, by no means, am an expert when it comes to love. I didn’t have an official boyfriend until I met my husband at 21 (at least, no one ever called me – or treated me like – their girlfriend), my first kiss was when I was 18 and before those things, I mainly fantasized about 90’s rock stars. With that said, my husband and I often get asked what makes our relationship work, so I figured I would make it the topic of my next Being Melificent post.

The hubs and I have been together for 11 years now, with nearly 6 of those as husband and wife. During our time together so far, I have come to view the following as some reasons we have stood the test of time and see no end to our little love affair:

1. It’s the little things; this tends to be my motto overall, but I really think it is what can make or break a relationship. At least here in Miami, people can be so superficial (i.e., If he didn’t get you a 2 karat engagement ring, it’s time to kick him to the curb). Learn to focus on what is really important in a relationship (and life): moments, the way something made you feel – NOT material things. A perfect example are weddings. People get so caught up in the details, color schemes and chivari chairs, that they forget to focus on their LOVE for one another. Honestly, my top 5 weddings have made it onto the list mainly because you can feel the love radiating through the entire event, not because their centerpieces cost them thousands. One of the memories I cherish the most involving the hubs is a night we were listening to Silverchair’s Across the Night as we were cleaning, and he spontaneously whipped me around and starting slow dancing with me all around the house. Hold on to those, remember those, not the number of gifts he has given you. None of that matters in the end.

2. We still date; this is so important to me! My husband and I have never stopped dating each other. We try to plan a date a week where we go try/discover something new in or around our city. Harkening back on #1, it doesn’t have to be anything fancy, as long as we are together. It keeps the relationship from getting stagnant and monotonous, and instead brings back the romance, excitement and FUN. So instead of spending Saturday afternoon on the couch watching reruns of Sex & the City while you are both sitting next to each other, but independently Internet surfing, go out and explore together. I promise having that one-on-one time on a frequent basis will remind you of why you fell in love with this person in the first place!

Being Melificent: Labels

I’ve had a lot on my mind lately, and when I am “feeling all the feels” I naturally wish to send these feels into the universe. And that means the rare Being Melificent post.

On the cusp of turning 32, I am so comfortable with myself. I remember how terrified I was to turn 30 – how definitive it felt. Like I had to change in some way; become more of an adult. And that’s what I want to share today. You don’t have to change for anyone, anything…ever. Just because you are no longer a teenager does not mean that you can’t have an unattainable crush. Just because you are married, does not mean you can’t have a wild and crazy night with your single girlfriends. Just because you are a mom, does not mean that you can’t have a day where you just think about yourself. Do you catch my drift?

Back in the saddle

After one month of moping around referring to myself as a “retired blogger,” I decided that idea was pretty ridiculous. Blogging is as much a part of me as my “real job,” and makes me just as happy. I just really love to share things with you all, and if no one cares to read it but myself, my husband and best friend, that’s OK by me. Comparing yourself to others is toxic, and I should really know better by now.

Now that I’m returning (squee), there will be some changes. I won’t be posting as often, because I want to make sure that the quality outweighs the quantity of posts. I will also (I should probably shield myself right about now) be retiring hump day posts. I want to remove the fluff, and actually focus on things that matter most to me. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some celebrity hotties, but this is not a celebrity blog (for that, check out the lovely Accidental Sexiness). Lovable Friday, outfit posts and DIY crafts will all still remain, along with sprinkles of what makes me Melificent. I’m also really excited about (several) new future endeavors that will bring you guys a little closer to me in various ways.

So overall, the future is looking bright & I want to bring you all along for the ride.
Sounds good? Good.
