Miami is finally getting the ball rolling when it comes to foodie culture and the lineup hand-picked by Burger Beast for the Fall for the Arts Festival on Sunday definitely gave all of us hope that we are moving in the right direction! Some of Miami’s finest food trucks were on site, allowing us to sample some of their gourmet cuisine on wheels, as well as other foodie favorites such as Totally Bananas (totally reminded me of Arrested Development) and Feverish Ice Cream among others.
We got there as soon as the festival began, which means we had to do a lot of waiting around for the trucks to actually begin taking orders. Unfortunately, I think this event should have been held a bit later in the year when the weather gets a little more tolerable because the intense Miami heat was beating down on us with absolutely no mercy. We spent the majority of our time under an air-conditioned tent, having to amp ourselves up to venture back into the face-melting weather and the only thing driving us was food.
Our first stop was the Sakaya Kitchen truck, which was celebrating its debut at the festival. The truck looked spectacular, but you should expect nothing less: it was designed by LA Ink’s Adam Forman. The food was not far behind. The hubs and I shared both the Angus Beef Bulgogi “Croquetas” Ssam and the Kurobuta Pork Belly Ssam. The pork belly was amazing. It made every taste bud in my mouth sing for joy. I will definitely be checking out their brick and mortar in Midtown very soon. After a quick cool down under the tent, we made our way to Gastropod next. I loved its kitschy AirStream trailer and more importantly, its short rib sliders. DEE-VINE. Apparently, Gastropod does not only call Miami home – it makes its way around the country, most notably paying Coachella a visit this year. Finally, I had to get some Fish Box in my mouth (see what I did there?). I ordered a Minuta Sandwich, which was so fresh, delicious and huge. Like monstrous. See?
But that was not enough, ladies and gentlemen. Oh no. I decided to end my fat kid marathon by dismissing my dairy allergy and ordering some pine nut ice cream from Feverish. Take that, body! Despite the pain and discomfort I felt later, I can honestly say it was well worth it. Unfortunately, that concluded our experience at the festival as I could no longer bear with the terrible heat and humidity (bad Floridian, I know) and a group of ominous storm clouds were quickly approaching. We packed our bloated bellies and were happily on our way!
Overall, it was a great event (besides the intolerable weather) and I hope we see more like them in the future. I also hope I am able to catch the other food trucks I missed somewhere along the way. This little girl can house some serious plates of food, but I’m not that good.
