Happy Hump Day {Role Reversal}: Zooey Deschanel

So a very long time ago, all you lovely people suggested that I feature some of my favorite girls. I always had this idea on the back burner, but just never got around to it – mainly not knowing how to incorporate it into posts. Now I know. Every month, I’ll play a little role reversal on Hump Days, giving the girls a chance to shine as well.

And let’s face it. All us ladies have a few good girl crushes, right?
I had to start it with the absolutely lovely, Zooey Deschanel. She was the inspiration for my most recent haircut, and one of my most favorite style icons. I think she’s all sorts of wonderful (we even share a gluten intolerance – aw). And how amazing is her show, New Girl? It’s the highlight of my week, seriously. Plus, check out her adorable blog, Hello Giggles. Heart: bursting. Even more when she comes paired with the gorgeous Joseph Gordon Levitt. God, I love them so.

Organic Bloom Style DIY

I have been in love with Organic Bloom frames for as long as I can remember, but definitely not with their prices or accessibility (or lack thereof). That’s why when I saw this DIY idea, I had to give it a go. Then, I noticed all the hateful comments on said DIY and all other repins from what I imagine are proud Organic Bloom owners? Or representatives? Either way, it made me start to feel differently about the brand (these comments have since been removed).

It rubbed me in such a bad way that these commenters kept saying there were no after photos of this project because it was such an awful idea that I had to do it. And post an after picture. In fact, several. And guess what? It looks great! So neener Organic Bloom – this is more than a worthy DIY project for those of us that want the look but without the dollar signs. Photojojo even posted a similar craft!
Plus, you can find more affordable alternatives at this Etsy shop, as well as at Cut It Out.

Hi loves!
Life is a little busy at the moment so the blog will be
taking a backseat, but only for a little bit.
I’ll be back next week!

What I Wore: The Limited Pants

Finding the right fit and style when shopping for work pants has to be the worst. Well, let’s face it. Shopping for pants period is not the most enjoyable thing in the world. That’s why I love the modern fit and flare of the Drew pants from The Limited. As you can see, they look great paired with some fun, bold heels (something I believe should always be a staple with boring work outfits – you need a punch) and are endlessly comfy. Plus, they seem to flatter many different body types, even my curvy Cuban hips! ;)

Something else you might be noticing is my new ‘do! I recently got some Zooey Deschanel-esque bangs and I love them (well, until they develop a mind of their own – coming soon, I’m sure)!

Hunger Games Themed Party

This past weekend, I threw a Hunger Games themed birthday party for one of my closest friends, Lori. We gathered a group of hardcore fans of the book series and headed to see the film at Cinebistro with matching shirts that the hubs designed before heading over to our house to celebrate. I worked really hard on all the details, with help from the hubs and the bestie, and I was so happy with the way things turned out.

As for the movie, I think they did a good job. But, of course, a movie will never be as wonderful as a book. Never. Unfortunately, I think their biggest downfall was character development. There were a lot of relationships that were not delved into as they should have been and remained pretty superficial, but the acting was absolutely amazing. Jennifer Lawrence is my girl, yo.

{Hunger Games Week}: Premiere

Did this magazine cover give anyone else chills?
Jennifer Lawrence is the perfect Katniss.

Today is the day, Tributes.
Go forth, pillage local movie theaters, wear those pins proudly and don’t forget to wave a passionate three-fingered salute. Unfortunately, I have to wait until tomorrow night (torturous) to see the film, so please keep spoilers to a minimum but do feel free to gush about how wonderful it is.

May the odds be ever in your favor.

ps; I’ll be back next week with a full recap of our themed party, as well as my thoughts on the movie!

{Hunger Games Week}: Mockingjay-inspired Accessories

Parties aren’t the only ones that are being influenced by Suzanne Collins’ epic trilogy, the fashion world is also being inspired to pick up some bow and arrows and play along.  I’m not complaining. I find arrows and birds to be beautiful touches to accessories, not only in the home, but also for wrist and neck candy. I personally want one of each of these lovelies, all found on Etsy, in case you are wondering. I am not beneath begging. ;)

1. Arrow Bracelet – $1.99
2. Silver Arrow & Bird – $50
3. Charms bracelet – $15
4. Deluxe Charm bracelet – $35

{Hunger Games Week}: Lenny Kravitz

I wanted to keep with the theme this week, but at the same time did not want to sacrifice Hump Day (I know it’s all your favorite post of the week), and then it came to me: I haven’t featured the wonderfully talented and beautiful Lenny Kravitz! Perfect. Now although a whole new generation will only know him as Cinna, Katniss’ assigned soft-spoken stylist for the games, he has always been one of my favorite musicians. I must have seen Lenny play live about 5 times during my high school and undergraduate career – I couldn’t get enough of him. I mean, who could? He is gorgeous and made some amazing music. The hubs even had one of his songs, Believe, on the list of songs he wanted to sing to me at our wedding (and when he did a test run, I cried like a baby – thank god it didn’t make the cut). I’m crossing my fingers that he does Cinna justice – he was definitely one of my favorite characters in the series.

Do you think he’ll do a good job, Tributes?

{Hunger Games Week}: Inspired by Katniss & Co.

On day 2 of Hunger Games week, I decided to focus on all the fabulous Hunger Games-themed party details that are popping up all over the web. As you all know, I’m throwing my own Hunger Games themed party this weekend to celebrate both the premiere and my friend’s birthday, and I was a little miffed to see all the inspiration pop up within the last 2 weeks, when all my crafts were basically done! Not to say that I may not try to tackle some of these new projects. ;)

I especially love the subtle inspiration taken for the wedding shoots as seen on Green Wedding Shoes and the suspended parachutes at one awesome kid’s Bar Mitzvah. Also, for those of you rushing to get a party together in time for the movie’s release, Living Locurto has a great collection of free party printables! I know I’ve snagged a few of her great details, like the drink straws shown above featuring some choice quotes from the first book.

Are you having a Hunger Games party this weekend? Would you have one?
Even better, do you have ideas that you think are imperative to include at a Hunger Games fiesta?
