Console Table

I wish I could post as much as I want to, but right now I’m in the trenches of studying. I am at the critical less-than-2-weeks mark until my certification exam, which means I do little of anything except stare at words I hope will make more sense to me by January 31st.

Anywho, in an attempt to fill the void, here is a shot of our new console table (from West Elm found via Craigslist for a fraction of the cost) and it’s fun little new member, Ollie the Octopus (just made that up on the spot), who was rescued from a life in ZGallerie captivity. Isn’t he sweet? We hope to continue filling up the table with more fun, Sanchez-like decor pieces – along with the rest of the house! Baby steps for now ;)

{Trend Swap}: NEON!

I’ve been inspired by some great blog swaps lately and wanted to host one of my own. I initially thought nail polishes since it is such an obsession hobby of mine, and I know a lot of you feel the same, but then I remembered that you cannot ship nail polish (I unfortunately learned the hard way). I continued to brainstorm and while shopping for sweet new accessories, it hit me!

Why don’t I pair up with the lovely Fashionable ESQ and offer a quarterly accessory swap based on a trend of our choosing? Everyone knows trends change like the tides in fashion, and one way to look the part without spending copious amounts of cash is to add those little pops to your wardrobe in the form of necklaces, headbands, lipstick, belts, etc. Think of it as a blogger not-so-secret Santa of sorts!

With that said, this quarter’s swap will be NEON!
You can purchase any accessory you wish for your blogger partner, as long as it is bright, loud & fun, and of course, matches their personal style (see below). Also, I will not set a spending limit, but stress that this does not have to be anything exorbitant. Remember, the whole point of these swaps is to stay fashionable with details that will not break the bank.

What I need to know from those interested in participating are the following things;
1. A way to contact you (email, blog link)
2. Three adjectives describing your personal style -or-
3. A link to an outfit post (doesn’t necessarily have to be your own) that you think is the best representation of your style

I will close the window to participate at the end of the week (1/22/12) and at that point, I will pair us all up!

One final “rule;”
Once you receive your item, make sure to style it on your blog and share the link to this post. That way, next time we can get an even larger pool of participants to join in on the fun!

Golden Globes

I get so excited when it’s award season!
It’s just so exciting and glamorous.

Unfortunately, this year I had to watch the Golden Globes under the covers trying to endure intense body aches and one killer sore throat. Yep, I picked up a fun virus. But that didn’t stop me from listing out my best and worst dressed on the carpet.

& here they are;

Sofia Vergara, Nicole Ritchie, Nicole Kidman, Kelly Osbourne and Emma Stone actually looked like they were going to a glamorous event. Unfortunately, the rest of the big stars seemed to be attending something more along the lines of their senior prom. Am I right? Definitely was not blown away with the fashions (was that a Jessica McClintock Natalie Portman was rocking? Seriously).

Sorry ladies. Unfortunately, voluminous gowns seemed to have made a very ill-fitting comeback last night (Sarah Michelle Gellar blue paint disaster and Piper Perabou‘s nude cupcake number), along with gowns that wanted to compete with actresses over attention (the beautiful Dianna Agron managed to take a backseat to her overly intricate laser cut swan [?!?!] dress). You may be thinking, “Well where does Claire Danes fit in?” Although her dress was really beautiful from the back, I just cannot get behind this white/black contrast trend. It is so matronly! Made me totally miss her little neon pink ensemble from last year’s show.

What did all you pretties think?

ps; wait until you see what I have in store for all of you tomorrow!

Snip snip

Although not an official list of my favorite things, today’s post is still lovable. After all, who doesn’t love a good haircut? After a couple of years growing out my hair, I thought it was time to make it look somewhat decent. I had managed to spend the past month putting it up in a bun/ponytail whenever possible to avoid the mop you see to your left, but enough was enough!

I have finally returned to the land of good hair.
Next up? Fixing my blotchy, crazy color. Word of the wise: color out of a box is never your friend.

Special shout out to the lovely Emily of Emilyisasecret for recommending such an amazing stylist!

Inspiring Bloggers

Image via weheartit.com

I follow and read many blogs, but there are definitely a few that I can say really inspire me to be a better blogger, and sometimes, even a better human being. I love looking through them and feeling the ideas quickly rushing through my head. Last week, this happened in such a big way that I actually started jotting them down in the first notebook I saw – one of those scribbles was the basis of this post!

In hopes that some of these ladies can inspire you as much as they do me, I’ve decided to share my top 5 with you all;

1. The Glitter Guide

Although it is a relatively new blog on the scene, it has grown to be one of my absolute favorites. The Glitter Guide focuses on making every aspect of your life sparkle, and this lovely line was swiped directly from their about page: We believe a smile is a woman’s best accessory, that sequins are appropriate no matter what the occasion and that some days simply require a glass of champagne. Now those are words to live by! I have to say, I visit their Tumblr the most – particularly on days where I am not feeling the most glitter-y, mainly because it is like an instant pick-me-up. Their inspiring images include anything from a beautiful shot of the Eiffel Tower to a slice of pink birthday cake, but all have a common theme: fun.

HAPPY HUMP DAY: DAREN KAGASOFF

I will admit I’ve watched a quite a few seasons of the Secret Life of an American Teenager [thanks, Netflix!]. But really, how much back-and-forth [and back and forth…] argumentative dialogue can one person take?  The main reason I tuned in? This guy.

I wasn’t too fond of Kagasoff’s hairstyle, but after a quick flash of the abs in an episode or two, I figured I could stand it. Maybe if Daren Kagasoff made a few more topless appearances I would have kept watching the show. ;)

And for the record, this “high school hottie” was born in ’87, so this is not an attempt at cradle robbing. :)

A Few Good Flats

Embarrassing fashion blogger confession time: I have no cute flats in my closet. Like, not even a pair of boring black ones.

I know it should be some sort of crime (especially considering that my feet are not big fans of heels), but I am severely lacking in this department. I seem to have replaced them with wedges, but sometimes, you just need something a little more casual and comfy but a little hipper than your every day pair of chucks. Am I right?

I have fond memories of flats past, especially my sequined flats from Old Navy. Remember those? I’d love to find a few affordable and versatile pairs to take their place in my heart, because honestly this is just ridiculous.

Here are some that stood out in my hunt;

1.Wanted Ritzy Pewter Metallic Sparkle Slip-On Flats; 2. Old Navy Glitter Flats; 3. Old Navy Cap-Toe Canvas Flats; 4. TOMS Glitter Slip-Ons; 5. A Gloss for Words Flats

What are your favorite pair of flats?
Do you have any other recommendations?
Maybe your own embarrassing fashion confession?

Squeeworthy: Fun & Girly Prints

Can I just gush about how much I love all the really fun and girly clothing and accessories I am seeing pop around the Internets? From someone that enjoys dressing like a 6 year old (direct quote from my mother), I could not be happier to see lots of loud prints featuring polka dots, hearts and other patterns that are generally left for Kindergarteners to rock.

Here is a compilation I threw together featuring some of my favorites (& they are affordable too!);

1. Asos Bouncing Bunnies sweater $27.27; 2. Top Shop Lightning Bolt earrings $14; 3. Asos heart-shaped buckle belt $18.18; 4. Asos Heart Sweater $63.63; 5. Old Navy polka dot sweater $24.94

Happy Hump Day: Adam Brody

Here’s an adam’s apple that probably hasn’t crossed your mind in a minute. I remember watching MTV’s Now What? and deciding that, for being so incredibly monotone, this guy is cute, has an amazing sense of humor, and a sweet wardrobe. My love of all things Brody truly blossomed when he temporarily joined the cast of Gilmore Girls, followed by a full blown Melificent-style fangirl obsession when Brody played Seth Cohen on the O.C. I’ve read in a few places that Brody is a lot like his television personalities, which got me all kinds of excited because our tastes in music and comedic stylings are pretty similar [see: indie rock and sarcastic to the max]. Although I didn’t realize he was “recently” in a couple movies, Jennifer’s Body and In the Land of Women [both added to my queue!], I look forward to swooning over Adam Brody again one day…or just watching reruns of the O.C. on the soap network. :)

What I Wore: 2012

What’s up, 2012!

I hope all of you rang in the new year in the best way possible – whether it was in your pj’s with a bottle glass of champagne or living it up with friends while out on the town. I started the year with this fun photoshoot courtesy of the hubs in the design district of Miami, followed by some cleansing of sorts: starting to clear out our garage and move around some stuff in the house (one of my wishes, remember?).  I keep telling myself it is the beginning of a fantastic year, even though I have already managed to be glutened and break glass.
