Lovable Friday!

My days are going to be a little frantic leading up to the end of the year, readers. I wanted to give you all a quick I’m sorry since you will probably see days pass by with no blog posts, and when they do appear, they may not be as fun & juicy as you expect them to be (nah, I’ll make them fun – who am I kidding??). My life has just hit full throttle and I have to refocus once again on a few major events: (1) our Europe trip, which is in less than 2 months (!!!) & (2) my first certification exam to become a BCaBa in January. All of that plus a hectic work schedule, social events & roller derby! It will definitely be a challenge, but I’m always proud to say I am up for them!

So because of the lack of time in a day, there is no formal Lovable Friday list today, but I think this video more than makes up for the missing 5 items. My dear friends, Angela & Dave, got engaged a couple of weeks ago in the most perfect & beautiful way possible. I am beyond thrilled for them, and wish them nothing but a lifetime of happiness and love. These two? These two are the real deal.

I bet you are crying right now.
Or at least a little teary.

The video is blowing up on the interwebs, and they were even featured on one of my favorite wedding blogs, RocknRollBride earlier this week! Congrats again, sexy jerkfaces! You are proving to the world that love is still very alive and kicking. <3

What I Wore: Date Nite

Since I am always looking for a good deal, I was overjoyed when the lovely Ms. Audrey of Conversation Pieces filled me in on her new project, Shop Speedy Girl. The idea behind the new site is that it can be considered kind of like a drive-thru fashion ATM. Every 24 hours, shoppers are offered 2 items at a special price within a 24hr period.  The merchandise is made up of current season styles from comparable mod and vintage fashion retailers, but at Shop Speedy Girl, customers can expect to pay up to 50% less. Yep, you heard right! How can you say no? I know I couldn’t – especially when I saw this adorable little cupcake-like dress. I thought it was absolutely perfect for a date night in the always humid South Florida. Its lightweight and breezy nature paired with the girly ruffles in pastel hues sealed the deal. Best part? The hubs’ reaction: “oh wow, do you look cute or what?

Find your perfectly priced prize on Shop Speedy Girl today!
Feel free to thank me later ;)

Happy Hump Day: Liam Hemsworth

You know the ugly stick? Well, the Hemsworth family was obviously smacked with the pretty one because good lord, are they nice to look at! Just in case you are not familiar, Liam’s older brother is the very delicious Chris Hemsworth of Thor fame. Agree with me now, right? Well, little Liam is not far behind with the family fame factor. He catapulted into the spotlight when he played opposite Miley Cyrus in the teen romance, The Last Song, and then started a real life relationship with Ms. Hannah Montana herself. Although their relationship seems to have had some ups and downs, it looks like the couple is back together. One perk to being Liam’s girlfriend? All access to all things The Hunger Games! That’s right, Liam is also going to be in the very much anticipated (mainly by me) film adaptation of the best selling book trilogy as Gale Hawthorne. I can’t wait to see what he brings to the table as Gale is one of my favorite characters – for now, let’s enjoy his boyish good looks & ridiculous washboard abs. <3

Derby at the Races

I hope all of you had a fantastic Labor Day weekend – I know I did!

Time absolutely flew by (as it always does during long weekends), but the highlight was definitely attending the Coconut Grove Bed Races with my fellow derby sisters to push Tinker Tank‘s bed. For those of you that don’t know, I joined the Miami’s Vice City Rollers, Miami’s first roller derby team back in July. A few weeks later, I can honestly say that I have made a lot of great friends and learned so so much about technique and the game. Despite my hectic work schedule, I am trying to make it a priority and may have even suckered the hubs to jump on board as a ref! For all those interested in joining the team, we will be holding an open house on Sunday, September 18th. For more information, make sure to check out our website or Facebook fan page.

Lovable Friday

1. The Hunger Games Trilogy

I may be so late to this game, but I was lent the first book in the Hunger Games trilogy by a friend last week and I am so dunzo. In fact, I’m sure by the time this posts (in a couple of days), I’ll be done with the entire series. I’m currently on the last book, Mockingjay, since I basically annihilated my way through them. I don’t think I’ve ever been so addicted to a book series since I was a kid. I just can’t get enough of it. Katniss is such a positive role model for young girls – forget Bella Swan. This is true empowerment! And now I couldn’t be more excited for the film release in March – I totally see a gaggle of girls in matching Hunger Games fandom shirts. And I love it.

This is Halloween

It’s no secret on this blog that I adore Halloween and it is my favorite holiday. I usually wait until October rolls around to start the themed postings, but I just couldn’t help myself. In my world, it’s officially Fall (even though we have no seasons here in Miami) and that means I can start planning all the fun decor for this year’s spooky festivities. Last year, I started decorating my home on October 1st and was sorely disappointed when no other homes in my neighborhood followed suit. For the entire month. For that reason, I feel pressure to make my house look even more spooky this year! I want it to stand out and really reflect our love of the holiday. Screw you, haters! Plus, this year I’ll make sure to have plenty of candy in stock as to not have a repeat case of the debacle that was candygate 2010.

Here are some of my favorite ideas so far:

Happy Hump Day: Paul McCartney

Very few of you may know that my hubby helps me choose men to feature on hump days. You may laugh, but he has a pretty discerning eye when it comes to hot men (reasons he says I can never go to Rome alone). This week, I was completely stumped. Then he gave me the idea: vintage hotties. Now there’s an idea! I had to begin my first of the many with the always lovely Paul McCartney. Not only is he talented and beautiful, but he sure does have an arsenal of amazing photos. I can’t wait to honor his and the band’s legacy by walking down Abbey Road in a couple of months!

Squeeworthy: Dorothy Perkins

As if I need another reason to spend copious amounts of money shopping while I’m in London, I stumble upon this lovely site thanks to my evil mistress, Pinterest. Dorothy Perkins: land of perfect Melificent dresses. Seriously, I don’t know which beautifully classic, elegant, Audrey Hepburn inspired dress I want more. As if the website wasn’t tempting enough, I just google map-ed the nearest location to our flat while we are on vacation, and one lies merely a 5 minute walk away. I am so screwed.

What I Wore: Cousin Nite Out

We don’t get to spend too much quality time with our cousins (everyone is just so busy), so we jump at the chance when the opportunity arises! That happened this past weekend when we went to Merrick Park to celebrate my cousin’s birthday. We had a great time, had a little too much to drink, and laughed a whole lot. Basically, a wonderful evening. I wanted to look stylish, but didn’t want to go the dress route, mainly for comfort (I’ve been so lazy lately). This little outfit definitely did the job just right!

Lovable Friday!

1. Painted words as art

Like I’ve mentioned before, our walls are pretty bare in our home. It’s just so expensive to fill them up with nice, quality art. That’s why I’m such a huge fan of all these great wall art DIY’s going around, and I especially love this idea from Oh Happy Day. Who would have thought that writing your favorite quote using a paintbrush would look so elegant and refined? Both the hubs and I are big fans of simplicity and minimalism, so this project could not fit our style any more perfectly. This is one of those projects I’m definitely going to be attempting soon! Now to pick the quote…
