Happy Hump Day: Raine Maida

I am a adolescent of the 90’s. This is pretty evident once you get to know me and my CD collection. I have fond memories of using school computers to go on band fansites (I didn’t have Internet of my own just yet) and print out photos of all my favorite hot rockstars to wallpaper my locker or notebooks. I vividly remember Raine Maida of Our Lady Peace being one of them. Although they were a pretty big deal in the 90’s, I was surprised to see them still touring recently. They played at a local South Florida rock festival a couple of years ago that I attended and I was curious to see if they would still sound the same, worse? I was pleasantly surprised when they took the stage that they are still as great as ever and even appeased all us 90’s fans by playing their old material, which instantly took me back to being an angsty teenager (a place of comfort once you are an angsty adult). Another surprise? That lead singer, Raine, was just as hot as I remembered. But I’ll leave that opinion up to you all.

Dreaded Blog Question

Via Pinterest

When you have a blog, and you start putting it out there (or attempting to), the first question asked is always the most dreaded for me: “What kind of blog is it?” It seems like the most basic of questions. One you should be able to answer without a second thought, but for me, a blogger that has been struggling to find some sort of focus for 2 years, it is a nightmare. Or is it?

I had been putting off the search for focus because I like the fact that I can post about anything and everything. The sky is the limit; I am not pigeon holed to only discuss one topic. But at the same time, every video created by famous bloggers states that your number one goal is to narrow your focus and decide what kind of blogger you want to be. Well, shit.

Lovable Friday!

1. H&M striped dress

How perfectly Spring is this dress? It really makes me want to kick H&M in the rear for not having a South Florida store (although that will change in 2012) or a US online store (also changing in 2012). This gorgeous little number is only $30, ladies. THIR-TY. I pay more for gas weekly. Sometimes life just isn’t fair.

GIVEAWAY: Cupcakes & Mace Unicorn Necklace!

I’ve been a big fan of the Cupcakes and Mace (what a great name) Etsy shop for awhile now, and have ordered a few fun necklaces from them. I’m sure if you haven’t seen me raving about my own purchases, you have seen at least one, two or twelve Lovable Fridays featuring these cute and original pieces. I love how bright, kitschy and fun their accessories are with such attention to detail. Crafter extraordinaire and shop owner, Kim, is a total doll and decided to team up with me to give away one of my favorite items in her shop: the unicorn necklace!

Honestly, who wouldn’t want the coolest mythical beast (ok, so maybe tied with dragons…) around their neck? Plus, you can choose from a cornucopia of colors for your horny creature (had to, sorry) to make it more personalized.

Ready to enter?

1 – Leave a comment on this post detailing your favorite unicorn memory.
Mine? The 1982 film, The Last Unicorn. I was obsessed.
2 – Follow Cupcakes and Mace on Facebook!

Good luck everyone!

Happy Hump Day: Heath Ledger

I’ll never forget how I felt when I found out about Heath Ledger’s passing. I was sitting at my desk at work not exactly working when I saw the news on a message board. I actually found it difficult to breathe and felt sick. It was strange to me because I had never had that kind of reaction to any celebrity death, but Heath had been one of my favorites since high school when I saw 10 Things I Hate About You (and then continued to watch it incessantly for years). It makes me sad to think of all the accomplishments and acclaims he could have had under his belt by now. Such a talent, such a beautiful human being…such a loss. I love you, Heath, and we miss you dearly.

Squeeworthy: Fun Finds @ Target

Like any good bargain shopper, I love me some Target (or Tar-jay)!
I especially love their new Marketplace – such a peaceful way to grocery shop…but I digress.

However, this time around I was surprised with some of the fun items I found all for less than $3.
No effin’ joke here.

Maleficent cereal bowl – $2.78

Oh yes, you know I had to grab this one! I don’t even know how I spotted it, but for all those Disney fans, they have a complete Disney villians collection. Online it shows this as part of a set of 6, but it was all by its lonesome at my local Target for that spectacular price. Rummage for your own!

Owl Buddies – $1.00

Yes, you read correctly. I was able to find this adorable duo in the famed Dollar Spot for a dollar each! I could hardly believe my eyes, so naturally a grabbed a pair for myself and another for my owl-obsessed buddy. Unfortunately, I just swung by Target again today (told you it was one of my favorites), and they were already gone. All Targets are different though, so give it a look-see just in case ;)

Paul Frank magnets – $1.38

I love that Target carries Paul Frank products, and not only for the kiddies. I’ve picked up thank you notes, napkins and now magnets for my refrigerator! How cute are they? I love how they compliment all our fun photo booth images I have wallpapering my kitchen appliances. P.S., who can you spot on my fridge?

Happy shopping!

Oscars 2011 Fashion Recap

How cute was Anne Hathaway as host last night?? As for Mr. Franco, he was a little….off? OK, so I’m pretty sure he was hitting the ganja during commercial breaks. But they were both pretty adorable nevertheless. I also really loved the younger, hipper vibe of the awards and thought the night had some pretty special moments (OMGz, Trent Reznor won an Oscar!).

And now on to the good stuff! The fashion!

I was loving all the lavender on the red carpet, especially Cate Blanchett’s perfectly quirky gown with its bits of chartreuse beading. I though it was so perfect. I know a lot of people weren’t feeling it, but I so was. Then again, I’m pretty sure Cate can’t do any wrong. Mila looked absolutely stunning in her sexy, yet demure number and her bestie, Natalie Portman was wearing a darker shade of purple that was equally gorgeous. Anne Hathaway looked so old Hollywood glam in her show-stopping red gown, and finally Gwyneth looked like a modern day Oscar statuette herself in that beautiful slinky gold gown. Pure perfection, ladies!

Not many on my worst dressed list this year, but these two had enough ugly to fill 10 slots. Oh, Nicole Kidman, why. The dress kind of reminds me of long weekends in Pompano Beach as a child in cheap Ramada Inn’s. I swear this dress has the same pattern as those terrible bath towels. No, no, and no. And as for you, Marisa. I just have two words: Jessica McClintock and possibly another two: Senior Prom.

Also, another trend I noticed that I didn’t dig: men sans grooming. I saw so many hot men that seemingly forgot to shave for one of the biggest nights in Hollywood (I’m looking at you, Christian Bale). Don’t get me wrong, I love facial hair. I just believe it has to be groomed appropriately. Boys, just look to Hugh Jackman for reference. Please and thank you.

So who do you think took the titles of best and worst dressed? Let me know in the comments if you agreed with me or disagreed!

Weekend Highlights

I was lucky enough to work with my good friend, Penn, from Blank Photos on Saturday. We had planned the perfect Melificent photoshoot so I can use some of the shots for my blog redesign, amongst other things! Penn has been my friend for awhile and I have always been certain of her talents, but those beliefs were solidified after working with her. I had such a good time and think she really captured my essence. She sent me this one teaser above, and I personally cannot wait to see all the others and share them with you all!

Sunday was a really proud moment for me. I have the pleasure of working with autistic children once again, and I cannot be happier to be involved in their lives, as well as those of their families. I formed a team: Team Melificent, and was able to raise $435 for the cause. I was also able to show support with some pretty amazing people: both my friends and family, along with my new corporate family. Thank you to everyone that participated: whether it was financially through a donation, or physically through joining us Sunday morning.  I appreciate it with all my heart! xoxo

Lovable Friday!

1. Season 3 of Showtime's United States of Tara

The wait is finally almost over! If you are just as big a fan as I am of Showtime’s outrageous show, United States of Tara, it has felt like an eternity since the show’s last season ended. Thankfully, on March 28th, that will all change. The third season will follow Tara as she decides to head back to school, along with all her alters, which is sure to bring more even more drama to our favorite Kansas family. Want a sneak peek? Check out the official trailer right here. And yes, you saw correctly. That is Mr. Eddie Izzard himself making a guest appearance this season!
