1. Kate Spade Flats
1. Kate Spade Flats

Once Kate Spade was the queen of prep, but I absolutely love the way the brand has evolved over the years. It can still be labeled as preppy, but in such a fun and whimsical way. Their pieces are so girly and fun – I don’t think there is one Kate Spade item I don’t like and these flats are no exception. The gorgeous shade of purple, the adorable little present bow, I just can’t handle it! Get your own for $95 at Zappo’s.

GIVEAWAY: The Bird & The Bee

birdbee

The Bird and The Bee is a unique little duo hailing from the city of Angels. If you haven’t heard their jazz-influenced electro pop, then check out their first two albums, The Bird and The Bee and Ray Guns Are Not Just The Future and let yourself fall in love with their groovy tunes. I was lucky enough to see these two open for Lily Allen back in 2007 and the hubs and I were hooked! You may not recognize their name, but chances are you have heard some of their tracks on such popular TV shows and movies as Grey’s Anatomy, Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Sex & the City: The Movie.

On Tuesday, the band released their third album, Interpreting the Masters Volume 1: A Tribute to Daryl Hall and John Oates. As you can see from the title, it is a tribute to another immensely popular duo, Hall & Oates. One really cool factoid about this album? Rock goddess, Shirley Manson, (of Garbage fame) performs backing vocals on the track, Maneater.

Did that get your attention?
Well good, because I’m hosting another kick ass giveaway thanks to my buddies at Filter Magazine!

Please comment to this post with your name & email along with your favorite track and you will be entered to win a copy of Interpreting the Masters Volume 1!

Good luck everyone & remember to spread the word!

Happy Hump Day: Hal Sparks

05

Another exception to my tall boys only rule is Hal Sparks – chock it up to his humor and involvement in one of my favorite shows of all time, Queer as Folk. Also, he has the most adorable school boy looks. Not only does Hal act, but he also performs stand up (just played a couple of shows down here in South Florida – and I missed them!) and is in a band, Zero 1, as lead singer and guitarist. Plus, I’m sure you’ve seen him participating in VH1’s I Love the 80’s (& 90’s &….). I’m an equal opportunity humper and little guys need love too, right? Right! ;)

Infatuation Photos

I’ve probably driven you all mad by now going on and on about how talented all my friends are, but I can’t help it! I am lucky enough to be surrounded by immensely creative people and any exposure I can give them brings me great joy. Cue Infatuation Photos.

My friend, Dave, is a pretty fabulous photographer in the Southern California area. Although my favorite subject of his is his girlfriend, Angela (she happens to be one of my most favorite people in the world & one of my dearest friends), he takes pretty amazing pictures of other things such as animals, landscapes, nature and vintage items.

Lucky for you he is starting to offer his prints to the public! These photos would make a great addition to any space, room or office so head over to his store and browse through the available images – you may find one that speaks to you!

Weekend Highlights!

satIMG_5581

Saturday we spent the majority of the day working on house-related activities, but we rewarded ourselves later that night by meeting with my mother-in-law and an old friend of hers from California at the infamous Burger & Beer Joint on South Beach. I had been dying to hit up this place being both a huge fan of beer and burgers, and I must say, I was not disappointed in the least. First off, I loved that they had 3 separate lounges, allowing you to get your drink on (or bar food on) while you waited, making it a lot less painful (we had an hour wait). When we sat down at our table and scoured the menu, we discovered that you were either able to choose a burger from their menu or build your own with a variety of different add-on’s. Of course, I went with the customized burger! Wow, so good. I ordered a 1/2 pound Kobe burger with their garlic mayo, tomato and a fried egg with a side of sweet potato fries. Pure awesome. Plus, I drank a couple of Dead Guy Ale’s out of their “99 bottles of beer.” Although our outings will be far and few between due to the house, I will definitely look forward to the next time we’ll be able to go back to B&B, even if it is just to hang at the bar and have a good beer. Definitely plan a visit if you live in South Florida!

sunday

Sunday consisted of more fun house errands (and I’m actually not being sarcastic) such as outdoor light fixtures and paint samples! We were able to get a few cans of the colors we liked and we tested them out on the walls on Sunday afternoon – thankfully, we loved all our colors and are ready to get our paint on! Looks like we’ll have smooth ceilings (sans popcorn) and hot painted walls by the end of this week. I’m so excited! And this also means we’ll start moving on to the bigger stuff such as the guest bathroom, kitchen sink and new front door! Our weekends are action-packed and we barely have time to breathe, but I wouldn’t have it any other way – we are having a blast turning the house into our house.

1. DIY Fake Mustaches
1. DIY Fake Mustaches

I truly believe fake mustaches are the best party favor ever, so I absolutely loved this adorable DIY mustache tutorial on the blog, The Wedding Chicks. It says that it is for weddings, but I truly believe this would make any party that much more festive and fun. Can you imagine a few of these babies as part of the prop box for a photo booth? I think I may seriously attempt these for our epic Fourth of July party!

Happy Hump Day: Juanes

juanes-juanes-1082252_756_504

I am pretty open to all types of music, but I tend to kind of scrunch my nose and make ugly faces when I hear Latin music. Laugh all you want since I am Cuban, but it just tends to drive me a little nuts. However, that was until I discovered Juanes. I don’t know what it is about his music, but it just makes me want to jump on my feet and dance for hours. Absolutely love it…and well, he’s not too bad to look at either. I hope the next time Juanes rolls into town (which is often), I can score myself a pair of tickets as I’ve never seen him live! Blasphemy, I know.

So it begins…

house

In case you were wondering, this is what has been keeping me busy and what will be keeping me busy for the next couple months to come. That’s right, you can call us homeowners to this gorgeous little pad! I like to call it “our little beach house” because it gives me such a sweet Key West vibe and is so bright and happy. Because of that, we have decided to play up on the beach vibe with certain elements of the house. We have a lot of work to do and it all started this past weekend!

FYI

first_time_home_buyer-761915

Just wanted to pop in real quick to let you guys know that the blog might be a little slow for the next couple of weeks, but I have a very valid reason: we officially became homeowners this week! We are beyond thrilled but are going to be really busy as we remodel our new home. We hope to be move-in ready by next month, but that means a lot of hard work leading up to moving day which also means not a lot of time to blog.

I may be completely wrong and be able to update as usual, but I figured I’d just give a little heads up so that if I’m a bit absent here and there you all know it is mostly likely because I’m comparing laminate flooring samples, buying toilets or agonizing over paint chips.

And no worries, even if I am not posting consistently, I will be documenting the whole process to share with all of you along the way!

xoxo
