All about El Sanchez

3766237361_059bb60dc8Just like I mentioned yesterday, I will be making an Augi-centric post every day this week leading up to his 28th birthday on Saturday! So sit back and enjoy riding the Sanchez train. ;)

1. When your S.O. is sitting in front of the TV, what is on the screen?

Fringe, Stargate Universe, Eureka, CSI or Top Chef.

2. You’re out to eat; what kind of dressing does your S.O. get on salad?

We don’t order salads much, but I’m going to go off on a limb and guess balsamic vinegarette of some kind.

3. What’s one food your S.O. doesn’t like?

Any kind of seafood.

4. You go out to the bar. What does your S.O. order?

Guinness if he wants beer, whiskey & ginger ale if liquor. He’s also been trying old fashions lately because he thinks he’s fancy.

5. Where did your S.O. go to high school?

Junipero Serra High School in the Bay Area.

Weekend Highlights

friday1IMG_4722_960

On Friday night, the hubs and I played house with our little nephew, Lucas. Since Where the Wild Things was premiering and we obviously couldn’t make it, we decided to crown our nephew as our own Max and have a wild rumpus right in my sister’s home! We had a great time with him racing around the house, playing with his extensive car collection and taking photos (obviously). He didn’t even give me a hard time when it was bedtime. Such the cutie!

Fu You!

IMG_9260

Earlier this week, I could hear the Target Dollar Spot calling my name as I ran in for some quick errands. I knew I was bound to find something amazing and my hunch was right on target (no pun intended)! I have been searching for a pair of Fu Dogs for a very very long time and although they are relatively easy to find, they tend to be overpriced (at least in my opinion). I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw a whole stack of them labeled as only being $2.50! At first, in my fit of joy, I grabbed a whole fist full of the little guys before settling on only a pair. However, I was disappointed. They were this ugly bronze color and everyone knows that Fu Dogs have to painted some sort of vibrant color to really pop in a space. That’s when I decided to undertake a fun little DIY project!

I headed to Pearl’s during my lunch hour and took one of the little pups with me. I asked one of the employees to help me select the best kind of spray paint that would really adhere to the figurine. Because they are plastic, she suggested Krylon’s Fusion, which is specially made for plastic and claims to dry in 15 minutes or less. Unfortunately, their color selection wasn’t all that extensive, leaving me struggling between the bright blue or yellow. Finally, thinking of all our current decor, I swiped the blue and headed back.

I am so happy with the way they turned out! But what makes the budget shopper in me really swell with pride is that I managed to create a hip and funky look for less than $10 total. I could definitely see myself getting hooked on all these projects when we get our new home. Painting, crafting, and creating in general is such a form of stress relief for me and I have really missed it since I ended my wedding planning (these would have totally fit the theme by the way). I really have to make an effort to be as creative as I can even though life tends to sneak up on me more than I’d like it to.

Until the next project….have a great weekend, everyone! Ours looks like it is going to be jam packed with goodness!

New Moon Soundtrack

bella-poster

I realize that this poster is fan made, but I think it’s lovely and really sets the tone for the film. In this case, I think Twilight fans should be hired on as art directors! Anyways, the release of New Moon is almost a month away but to help us Twihards make it through until then, they were generous enough to release the soundtrack tomorrow! To wet our appetite even further, Myspace released the album on Twilight’s official page yesterday. However, not all songs were available in their entirety, but I was able to get a gist of what we can expect to hear. Here is the tracklisting:

Meet Me On The Equinox – Death Cab for Cutie
Friends – Band of Skulls
Hearing Damage – Thom Yorke
Possibility – Lykke Li
A White Demon Love Song – The Killers
Satellite Heart – Anya Marina
I Belong to You (New Moon Remix) – Muse
Roslyn – Bon Iver & St. Vincent
Done All Wrong – Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Monsters – Hurricane Bells
The Violet Hour – Sea Wolf
Shooting the Moon – OK Go
Slow Life – Grizzly Bear
No Sound But The Wind – Editors
New Moon (The Meadow) – Alexandre Desplat

For those of you not familiar with the books, New Moon is the darkest of the four. Edward leaves Bella for what he believes is her own good, rendering her comatose. That’s when Jacob Black swoops in for the kill, so to speak. That is, until he discovers a secret of his own which causes him to pull away from Bella as well. This leaves Bella feeling ultimately abandoned by both the love of her life and her best friend. Basically, not fun stuff. So I was expecting music that set that kind of mood: dark and emo. I’m really happy to say that they did a pretty good job. The Thom Yorke track is spectacular and really lends the album some sort of music credibility. Slow Life by Grizzly Bear also seemed perfect to me along with The Editors’ slow & haunting track. But something that got me really horribly upset? Muse’s remixed I Belong To You. First off, this is one of my favorite tracks off their new album, The Resistance, so I was already weary when I heard it was getting remixed for this movie. Ugh, I just think it’s terrible. It honestly sounds like I opened Garage Band and put random sounds at random moments throughout the song not even bothering to make it flow in any way, shape or form. They totally massacred it!

However, I’m still really excited for this one because I truly believe it is going to be light years better than the first film. I’ve decided to re-read the book in preparation because it’s been some time since I read the entire saga and some details are a bit hazy. I want to make sure I can be annoying enough to spot all the little differences as well as appreciative of the moments they get dead on.

What do you guys think of the soundtrack?
Are you excited for the premiere of New Moon or am I the only nerdly fangirl?

Happy Hump Day: Brad Goreski

Milk Studios

I can admit it. I’m a Bravo addict. I just can’t help myself and my husband only fuels the addiction. One of our favorite shows on Bravo is The Rachel Zoe Project, which revolves around one of the most famous celebrity stylists (if not the) of our time: Ms. Zoe. I think she has impeccable style sense and her clients always look absolutely amazing – hello, have you noticed Anne Hathaway at events lately? Plus, her little “sayings” always have me in stitches: that’s bananas, shutting it down!, I’d die (which was our nickname for Rachel for the longest), etc. But that’s enough of Rachel herself. One of my favorite “characters” on her show is her relatively new assistant, Brad Goreski. How flippin’ adorable is he? He makes me channel my inner Elmira – I wanna hug you and love you and squeeze you forever! I love all his little geeky ensembles: sweater vests, tiny short shorts and the staple of all good Brad outfits, the nerdy glasses! Although I must say, he looks pretty smokin’ without them – too bad I couldn’t find any photos sans glasses. Enjoy the geek chic & if you dig him too, follow him on Twitter along with the rest of the Rachel Zoe clan!

Halloweenie

Halloween is my most favorite holiday ever. What other holiday allows you to tap into your inner child and revel in a fantasy world? In fact, one of the main moments I am looking forward to the most when we get our own house is when I get to decorate it for Halloween and host the most amazing parties ever (well, that one is in general). Since the “big day” is only 18 days away, I figured I would gather some of my favorite Halloween party decor and ideas! I can’t wait to put them to use one day in the near future (gotta stay positive!).

Weekend Highlights: Rock ‘n Roll Road Trip

friday13998960651_053134a94c

Friday afternoon we started our road trip to see Muse (& U2) play Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium with some of our closest friends. I couldn’t have been more excited – it was my first live Muse experience and although I wish it would have been a headlining show, I was happy just to be in their presence for their 8-song set. They were mind-blowing. Matt Bellamy, if you are out there, I wouldn’t mind having your tiny powerhouse British babies. The set list was as follows:

Uprising
Map of the Problematique
Supermassive Black Hole
Hysteria
Undisclosed Desires
Unnatural Selection
Starlight
Time is Running Out

It was just incredible how much energy and passion they brought to the set despite being openers. They really gave it all they had and although we were one of the only people standing, screaming and dancing in our section, I had to smile when I overheard a few people commenting how “unreal” their performance was while waiting to buy merchandise. They are my beautiful little secret, but it still feels good to know that soon they will get the exposure they deserve. There are rumors that they will be headlining their first American tour sometime in 2010 and I really hope they make it down to South Florida because I plan on being front and center. I can’t tell you what a freaking tease their short set was – I was not ready for it to be over.

And for those non-believers, here is video footage of Map of the Problematique. I filmed their entire set, but this was one of the most steady mostly because I wasn’t the one recording – Elsie was sweet enough to take over for a bit so I could be a total fangirl.

Oh yeah, U2 also played. They were OK I guess ;)

Comic-Con 2010 Jitters

comiccon

So I woke up this morning to news that Comic-Con 2010, yes 2010 people, has run out of 4-day passes with preview night. What?! This is quite the problem. You see, I already got my plane tickets to San Diego but not my passes. I also leave tomorrow to Tampa and Orlando for both the Muse concert and Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival – leaving me with no extra money to spend on buying the remaining 4-day passes (these without preview night).

Good lord, what the hell happened? I remember Comic-Con not selling out until March this past year. This is ridiculous! Here’s to hoping that some will still be available next month when I’ll be able to snatch them up. If not, I guess it wasn’t meant to be!

Like I mentioned above, I’ll be leaving tomorrow for our rock ‘n roll road trip so there won’t be any blog posts for a few days – be good and I’ll be back next week with tales of our journey!

Happy Hump Day: Gael Garcia Bernal

sp6566b2

I love this pint-sized Mexican boy! Known for being director, Alfonso Cuaron’s, golden boy, he’s been in such great indie films as Amores Perros and Y Tu Mama Tambien and more recently The Motorcycle Diaries and The Science of Sleep. Besides being an amazing actor, he also just became a new daddy to baby Lazaro earlier this year! So life has definitely been busy for Gael (such a great name) and it seems like it is not letting up – according to IMDB, he is slated to be in over 5 more movies in the next couple of years. You definitely won’t see me or my eyes complaining about that one! Enjoy, ladies!

10 Things

Make a list of 10 random/weird/funny facts about you that your readers would know nothing about.

3854133756_5508be4eae_o

(1) I tend to memorize things rather than learn them. Great talent to have while in school, not so great once you are out and trying to apply those skills. This is why I am stellar at remembering song lyrics and believe School House Rocks is amazing.

(2) I suffer from situational anxiety, that is, I tend to get anxious when in a “different setting” that is out of my comfort zone. I became depressed while living in Pensacola, I threw up on my first day of work, I could barely function when I went back to grad school this past year, etc. It’s pretty debilitating and frustrating because I wish I could turn it off like a light switch. I believe change is good, but my mind and body apparently do not.

(3) Instead of having my (appropriate) boyband stage when I was in grade school with New Kids on the Block, I opted to go through it when I was 18 with *NSYNC. I will not divulge how much money, time & energy I spent on those 5 guys. Still love you, Lance!

(4) After spending the majority of my life masking the fact that I am a huge dork, I am so happy that I have become comfortable enough with myself to embrace it. It feels so nice to be able to finally be crazy, nerdy, ridiculous me!

(5) I absolutely adore meeting new people and spending time with others. I am a total people person. My husband always tells me to stop making new friends, but I can’t help it. Ever since I was a little girl, I wasn’t happy unless I was with my friends. Not much has changed.
