I hope all of you have a fantastic Thanksgiving holiday with your loved ones, lots of delicious food and drinks! I’ll be celebrating with both my in-laws and my immediate family together, which I love doing. My cousin has a knack of putting together the most amazing Thanksgiving menus, so I am beyond excited!
What are you doing tonight? Are you hosting? Trying any new recipes?
It’s impossible not to take note of Viggo Mortensen. Not only is he all sorts of lovely, but he’s a jack of all trades: musician, photographer, artist, and these are just a few. Although I knew of him, I fell in love with him in the role of Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I can’t imagine anyone else in the role, although a funny tidbit is that it was initially supposed to go to Stuart Townsend, who was actually fired after a few days for being too young. And the rest, as they say, is history. During filming, he carried his camera around at all times and managed to snap some of my favorite pictures of Elijah and Dominic. He also was known for being overly affectionate with all members of the cast and Miranda Otto, who played Eowyn, stated in an interview that it was not difficult to act as if she was in love with him. I think we can all agree with you, girl.
I promised I would do an outfit post every day while I was parading around Europe, and I’m happy to say I kept that promise (well, it got a little harder as the trip progressed and more and more clothes were dirty). Day 1 brings us to Barcelona. We absolutely loved the city, its vibe and beautiful sights. With every turn, there was something creative and beautiful. When we first arrived, jet lagged and groggy, we just decided to walk aimlessly. We walked down the famous Las Ramblas, made a couple of turns and stumbled on this adorable park sprinkled with cute children, pets and awesome graffiti. I had found my spot!
As you all know, the lovely Lori Todd hosted quite the amazing giveaway last week while I was away for a set of China Glaze polishes. You were all totally pumped for the prize and shared your favorite shades (thanks for giving me some to add to my every growing wish list) in hopes of being named the winner.
Well, that time has come and I’m very happy to announce that Ms. Madonna Flowers has won!
Congratulations, Madonna!
Lori will be contacting you to get all your information shortly.
And thanks to all of you for participating! I will be posting another fun giveaway in the weeks to come.
There is definitely a lot to be thankful for on this magical Monday, so I won’t waste any more time and just get to it:

I’m back!!!
I can’t even describe how amazing our vacation was, but as they say, home is truly where the heart is. I’m reluctant to jump back into reality again, but at the same time, our little routine will be greatly appreciated after our nonstop hectic Euro schedule.
Big thanks to my guest bloggers, Anika, Elissa and Lori Todd. They really held the fort while I was gone and shared some pretty great content. What do you have to look forward in the weeks to come? Some Euro outfit posts, a giveaway and some fun and personalized guides to each city we visited.
I can’t wait to get back on the ball, but for right now, I need to get my bearings.
Melificent will be back in full swing starting next week!
I’ve always identified as a chubby girl, from age nine when my friends began calling me “Thunder Thighs” to today, where I find myself relegated to the upstairs, back-corner section of Macy’s “WOMAN” section. Being a plus-sized girl isn’t easy, especially when you’re surrounded by the superficial, body-conscious masses of South Florida.
Over the past few years, I’ve overhauled my wardrobe, going from 2XL t-shirts and jeans to dresses, skirts and blouses. After earning a double-platinum super rewards edition of the Lane Bryant credit card, I still found myself craving fashion that was out of my reach. Thanks to the amazing online community of plus-size fashion bloggers, I’ve slowly been amassing a great collection of pieces from curvy-friendly online retailers.
While Meli is romping around Western Europe with the love of her life, some of us girls have been holding down the fort for her. Elissa got us all hot and heavy over Emile Hirsch and shared some fabulosity with us, and Anika reminded us why Nathan Fillion earned the title of Captain Hotpants before giving us her own rendition of Loveable Friday. Now that the baton has been passed to me, I don’t intend on dropping it!
I’ve got a little confession to make: Over the past 12 months, I’ve become quite addicted to nail polish. My collection began with a meager bottle of Rimmel 60 second vinyl shine in “Zeitgeist”, which I had been hauling all over the states with me since I graduated college over six years ago. (Nail polish NEVER goes bad, ladies! It’s true.) And today my collection looks like this:
Like Miss Melificent herself, I adore a fun manicure. When I came across the above manicure from The Swatchaholic the other day, I knew I had to look into these colors more. Turns out: there are a ton! Even better? On BeautyJoint.com they’re only $1.75 a piece. I haven’t placed an order myself yet, but at that price I feel like you kind of can’t go wrong. I also found swatches of all the chunky holo colors on Swatch and Learnso check that out if you want to see how a particular color looks.
With this being my sole opportunity to pick a Hump Day Hottie, it was imperative that I make an excellent choice. With that in mind, I went with none other than Captain Tightpants himself, Nathan Fillion. Firefly was arguably the first sci-fi show that I ever truly loved. I’ve now watched it more times than I can count and Malcolm Reynolds remains one of my favorite characters to this day. I would love to fly around the ‘verse on Serenity.
Naturally, Joss Whedon’s brilliant vision has quite a bit to do with that. Fortunately for all of us, Joss and Nathan have a thriving bromance that doesn’t look to be ending anytime soon: you may remember Nathan as Caleb on Buffy the Vampire Slayer or as Captain Hammer in Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. Did you all also hear that Joss directed a version of Much Ado About Nothing with so many Whedonverse actors that I couldn’t possibly list them all here? To say I’m excited would be a serious understatement. It also helps that Mr. Fillion seems like a genuinely wonderful, kind person, consistently cracks me up on Twitter, and was adorably befuddled in Waitress. He also popped up in disguise at The Joss Whedon Experience panel Meli and I attended at SDCC 2010 to ask Joss who his favorite actor is during the fan questions. Joss’ response? “It’s Nathan Fillion!” as he pointed to the microphone, revealing the speaker’s identity. I think we all know he only spoke the truth. With the gushing out of the way, enjoy the photos: [Read more…]
