Happy Hump Day: Mark Salling

Glee is TV’s new golden child and after their opening number and award sweep at the Emmy’s, you can’t really deny it. Not only is the cast of Glee outrageously talented, but they earn pretty high marks on the looks scale too. Mark Salling, who plays the nasty jock that finally showed his soft side, is definitely up in ranks. And all that sweet crooning is no joke – Mark graduated from the Los Angeles Music Academy. He will also be releasing his own album, Pipe Dreams, in October of this year, where he is the composer, performer and producer. Looks like quite the busy year for Mr. Salling! Cheers to you, my man! Enjoy the eye candy, readers :)

Adventures in the Pink Room

Awhile ago, before we purchased our home, I started compiling photos that served as decor inspiration. The picture to your left was one of the first ones that grabbed my attention, planting the little seed in my brain that grew into lust to have my very own pink room. Sure enough, after we found the house of our dreams, I began planning a replica based on that one little photo. I’m happy to say that after a few trips to Target, IKEA and Homegoods, that room is finally starting to take shape.

My Emmy’s Recap

So I decided to skip Weekend Highlights this Monday and instead, bring to you what you are really interested in: what everyone was wearing at the Emmy’s last night! I love awards shows because not only do I get to see all my favorite actors in one spot, but I also get to lust over some beautiful gowns. And now, thanks to avidly watching Rachel Zoe on Bravo, I know how much blood, sweat and tears goes into selecting those gowns! So without further ado, here are my favorites and not so favorites from the night:

The ladies of Glee definitely knew it was their time to shine and boy, did they ever! Lea Michele looked absolutely gorgeous in her navy ruffled gown and the hilarious Jane Lynch could stop traffic in her plum, form-fitting one shoulder. Claire Danes looked like an Emmy herself in a sparkly, strapless sheath that perfectly complimented her platinum feathered locks. And finally, Anna Paquin doned on a fabulous Alexander McQueen number that was definitely designed with matadors in mind. Hot ones, that is.

It’s a shame because even though I am not a fan of the show, I think the ladies of Mad Men are absolutely stunning and they looked anything but on Emmy night. January Jones looked like her hair had gotten into a fight with a hair dryer and that dress in that color was just awful on her. Christina Hendricks wasn’t too far behind with her hairy frock in a dull and lifeless icy lavender. Poor funny ladies Tina Fey and Mindy Kaling also missed the fashion boat with their unappealing gothic ensembles. Better luck next time ladies!

Also, I’d just like to chime in that I adored the opening number (HURLEY! & Nina!) and that I was beyond disappointed that LOST did not win in one of their categories. I know there was a lot of controversy surrounding how they ended the last season, but you cannot deny the superb acting of all cast members and weight of the show in pop culture. I was not a happy camper. I was also not so pleased to see that Fringe wasn’t even nominated for any categories. What’s going on, people? I may be the only one, but I just do not see the appeal in Mad Men (yes, I have watched & couldn’t stomach any of the characters) and what the hell is Breaking Bad?

Feel free to chime in your own opinions of the night down below in the comments!

Lovable Friday

1. Chambord Vodka

Chambord is one of my favorite liqueurs to use for cocktails (& also one of my favorite bottles – so fancy & French!), so I was thrilled to hear that for the first time, Chambord was extending their brand to include Chambord flavored vodka. And top it off, it’s flippin’ PINK. PINK people. Do you know how many girlie drinks are in our future? Oh please, let Tropical Storm Earl sympathize with us South Floridians because I’d love to mix some up by our pool come Labor Day weekend!

Happy Hump Day: Matt Davis

It’s only fair that since I have featured the majority of the Vampire Diaries hotties, Matt Davis should have his time to shine on Hump Day as well. Matt is now well known for playing vampire hunting professor, Alaric Saltzman, on the show but before the vampire craze took the world by storm, he was in one of my favorite chick flicks, Legally Blonde. Yep, that’s right. He played the jerky ex-boyfriend! But jerk he is not. Matt often keeps in touch with his fans through his very active (and hysterical) Twitter account. Enjoy the man candy, ladies!

Weekend Highlights

Saturday was the much anticipated Yelp event at the Moore Building in Miami. The theme was a mid-summer night’s dream and I can attest to it being every bit as magical as Shakespeare’s tale. All 4 floors of the building were jam packed with action! We were greeted on the first floor by Peroni beers, amazing food from Mr. Yum‘s and Maya Tapas & Grill and this ridiculously fun photobooth courtesy of Capture Pod. When we made our way up to the 2nd floor, we were thrusted into foodie heaven! We tasted goodies from such great places as JB Kitchen & Bar, Bongo’s Cuban Cafe and Maitardi. We also were bombarded with drinks at every turn, including Fenom Absinthe and Buck 15 bombs. As if our tummies weren’t thanking us enough, when we pulled ourselves up to the 3rd floor, we met the sweets! Nothing but cupcakes, brownies and ice cream galore from such wonderful places as Sweetness Bake Shop, 2 Girls and a Cupcake and Feverish Ice Cream Truck.

The event also featured beauty stations where you could get some false eyelashes applied amongst other salon favorites as well as a silent disco, where you donned a pair of headphones and jammed to the music quite literally in your own head. I know, you are jealous. How could you not be? Did I mention that all of this was free? My friends and I had such a wonderful time and I have to thank Yelp not only for putting on one hell of an event, but also for turning me on to a whole slew of new restaurants I wasn’t aware of! I really hope Yelp continues to host such amazing events in the future because it’s hard to find ones that feel so warm and inviting down here in South Florida without some sort of pretentious attitude.

Keep up the great work, Yelp Miami!

Have a great week, everyone!

Lovable Friday

1. Rolling Stone True Blood Cover

It’s not rare to see hotties on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, but that didn’t stop me from literally gasping out loud when this month’s cover was released. Wowza! You have to give it up to True Blood, they know what their viewers want to see – or rather, what they don’t want to see: namely, clothes. Jennifer Aniston, eat your heart out!

Happy Hump Day: John Mayer

Ah, John Mayer. I definitely have a love/hate relationship with you. I adore your music and lyrical stylings, but your personality? Not so much. For all those JM fanatics, I know that he may just be misunderstood by the media and that things have been blown out of proportion, but there’s just something about him that is so arrogant. However, none of that takes away from his amazing musical talents and mind-blowing live performances…and his boyishly good looks. Am I right? So I guess the good outweighs the bad with Mr. Mayer and I suppose I can overlook some ill-timed comments and irritating tweets. Well, at least to put together this lovely hump day post! Enjoy, ladies!

{Geeky Hip}: Romper Room

I was so excited when I got my fun little romper from ModCloth last week! As you all know, I had been looking for a stylish, yet comfy outfit to wear to the Epicenter Festival for the Bush reunion and I was pretty sure I hit the nail on the head with this cute romper. However, I had never ordered from ModCloth before so I wasn’t sure what to expect quality or fit wise. I was pleasantly surprised when it fit perfectly! This little number is the perfect summer outfit – it’s airy and sweet. The perfect accompaniment to a poolside BBQ, a beach bike ride or in this case, a summer concert.

So for those of you wondering if ModCloth is a viable option while doing a little online retail therapy, I can give it a really big thumbs up! I’ve just noticed that if you have your eyes on a certain item, don’t dilly dally. They seem to sell out pretty quickly so you have to act fast!

Have a happy geeky Tuesday!

Weekend Highlights

Like I expressed last week, I could hardly contain myself with excitement for the release of Scott Pilgrim. The hubs and I planned a date night on Friday consisting of dinner at Yellow Submarine (the best food truck in South Florida) and dessert at Sweetness Bake Shop. I had featured Sweetness on this past Lovable Friday, so I thought it would be appropriate to pay it my first visit! My full review is on Yelp, but to make a long story short & sweet (appropriate), it was lovely. My favorite were the Guayabera cupcakes, which were pure heaven. In fact, I would go back just to eat those. Over and over again. However, the bakery is full of all sorts of goodies, including daily rotating cupcake flavors, which leaves me with quite a few new treats to try for a long time to come! And if that sounds like a challenge…it is! Better up my cardio! ;)
