Lovable Friday

1. Last LOST cast photo

DarkUFO just posted scans from the last issue of LOST magazine and they are both adorable and heartwrenching, at least for me, as a huge fan. The last episode pretty much wrecked me inside and out, especially when it came to the church scenes. I still can’t believe my favorite show is over. Sometimes I just really miss seeing their faces, it’s kind of pathetic, huh? But true. Nothing but love for my LOSTies!

Scott Pilgrimage.

Killer t-shirt, Pilgrim ;)

That’s right, the movie all you geeky geeks have been dying to see is finally right around the corner! Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World will be out in theaters tomorrow and I don’t know about you, but my tickets have been purchased and printed since early this week! Luckily for me, Filter Magazine decided to shoot me over a copy of the soundtrack to hold me over until the premiere.

And it is good.

Happy Hump Day: Jim Parsons

If you are a good geeky girl like me, you found yourself glued to the TV Monday nights (but Thursday nights starting 9/23) unable to stop grinning like a magpie while watching The Big Bang Theory. I can’t really tell you how hard this show makes me laugh and that’s mainly due to one of the show’s main nerdtastic characters, Sheldon Cooper, played by the adorably quirky Jim Parsons. And apparently I am not the only one who enjoys his performance as he has been nominated for an Emmy not once, but twice and I hope this time around, he gets it! So enjoy the picspam, fellow geek girls and may the force be with you!

Rockin’ Concert Outfits

As you all know, I’ll be attending Epicenter Fest in Ontario, CA next month to see my beloved 90’s band, Bush, reunite for their first concert together since 2002. I’m really thrilled because I know I’m going to have a great time, but need to get that perfect outdoor festival outfit lined up. I’m all about comfort when it comes to concerts, but that doesn’t mean you have to look any less stylish and cute. While engaging in my favorite Internet hobby: online shopping, I decided to put together a summer concert  series of my own consisting of outfits that are not only comfortable and climate controlled, but also stylish and affordable. Yea, you can thank me later ;)

Weekend Highlights

Saturday night we celebrated one of my best friend’s birthdays, Elissa. We went to a pretty amazing German restaurant in Ft. Lauderdale, Old Heidelberg. We had our own room just to ourselves and enjoyed their wonderful beer selection while the birthday girl was treated to das boot, which is the equivalent of 6 beers! She was also serenaded by a sweet German man armed with an accordion and some serious tunes. Too fun. And the food wasn’t too shabby either! Unfortunately, I don’t think they are used to such big (and rowdy) groups because all the servers looked like they wished death upon us.  Later, we made our way to a local sports bar so the boys could watch the UFC fight (and us girls could gossip).

So a very happy birthday to one of the most wonderful girls I know.
Love you, Elissa cakes!

1. Prop 8 Overturned

Photo via weheartit.com

Wednesday marked a very important day in the state of California that will hopefully have a ripple effect on the rest of the country. A federal judge ruled that Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage, was unconstitutional and it was overturned. Being a fan of equal rights (um, who wouldn’t be?) and a firm supporter of gay rights, I could not be happier. In fact, I can’t believe that any sort of discrimination over whom you decide to love is still an issue in 2010 (or was ever an issue really). Congratulations, California!

{Geeky} Hip: So So Happy

While at Comic-Con a couple of weeks ago, I was lucky enough to stumble on the So So Happy booth on the Convention floor. It was like a slice of Melificent heaven: Lots of bright, fun colors and cute characters. They had tees, tattoos, pins and plushes, just to name a few and as if their products weren’t amazing enough, they had two wonderful people running the booth that were a joy to speak to. Needless to say, I left with a slew of goodies and can’t wait to shop at their online store for even more!

But you know what I love the most? The company’s message that we should embrace everything good in the world and treat everyone with respect and kindness. Each kind of bizarre character in their arsenal is supposed to represent each one of us that may be a little out there, a little eccentric, a little different, but still happy and worthy of everything this great life has to offer. Plus, 10% of all sales go to organizations such as Music Saves Lives and To Write Love On Her Arms, all charities that help today’s youth through different hardships. You just have to love a company that wants nothing more than to spread love, happiness and peace. It’s contagious.

So embrace your uniqueness and get so so happy…today!

Happy Hump Day: Steven R. McQueen

Steven McQueen turns Melificent into a raging cougar. Sure, he is 22 years old – not that much younger than me (let’s not age me now), but I still can’t help feeling like a bit of a dirty old woman…especially when we were only a few inches away from each other at Comic-Con a couple of weeks ago. And in case you were wondering, he is related to the “King of Cool,” Steven McQueen, of Bullitt, The Great Escape and the Getaway fame, just to name a few. I’m sure that’s saved him from a few speeding tickets, huh?

Now he’s starring as the emotionally tortured Jeremy Gilbert on The Vampire Diaries (most favorite guilty pleasure ever) and will also be in the ridiculously hilarious (is it supposed to be?) Piranha 3D. So I have a feeling that we’ll be seeing him more often in the future. I know I wouldn’t mind it at all ;)

Comic Con Recap: Day 4

Sunday was definitely bittersweet. I was so exhausted I could barely formulate words, but at the same time, did not want to say goodbye to the maddening nerd boot camp that was Comic Con.

We decided to take it easy and opted to skip the Glee panel (still have nothing but love for you Gleeks!!!) so we could shop on the convention floor and do some off-site activities. We started with breakfast at the delicious Broken Yolk complete with pomegranite mimosas (heaven) and then started making our way to the Dexter Kill Room. We imagined it would be Dexter’s plastic ritual, but were surprised when we had to attempt to find clues at a murder scene involving bloody mirrors, a vintage barber chair and nail torture. Fun? Yes. Creepy? Yes.

After finding some clues, we were given swag (a Dexter tote) and sent on our way. We were really excited to visit Scott Pilgrim vs. Comic Con, but totally bummed when we discovered that it was closed for good. Boo hiss. We decided to make the best out of the situation and ran into the convention center to shop until closing time. I had a great time looking around the exhibit hall, although at times it got a bit claustrophobic and unbearable. We picked up some fun souvenirs and then called it a day. I had a weird feeling in my heart when I left the convention center knowing it would be my last time enjoying the madness that is Comic-Con, as at that time I thought I would not be returning next year. However, thanks to a lot of convincing from friends, I will probably be making my way to Comic Con 2011 if all the chips fall into place. So cross your fingers for that, everyone!

Later that night, we celebrated our last night by keeping tradition and eating at Rockin’ Baja. After taking down some serious plates of food along with sweet & sugary drinks, it was time to hit the hay. We took a nice walk back to our hotel in the cool San Diego weather and bid both our friends and the city farewell. I can honestly say I don’t think I’ve had a better group trip.  Thank you for always being so great to us, Comic Con!

Until next time year…

xoxo

This past weekend I celebrated my birthday (again) one last time before saying goodbye to my lovely birthday month, July. I hope you not only raised a glass to my marvelous self, but also to the boy who lived on Saturday as it was Harry Potter’s birthday as well (geeky girl fact).
